Hi all!

Happy birthday little big Sparklette!

Smee - no, she has got none of her friends, yet again. One of them was on the phone to her in tears because of it Sad but it has happened to dd so often now she is a bit blase about it - sad, but definitely blase. And what makes it worse, the little gaggle of divas, who always get allowed to be together are, once again, all together. I am glad dd is inured to it now, but it makes me pretty Angry

TBH I have been pretty unimpressed by the school for the past year. dd always finishes her work fast, admittedly gets given more, finishes that, and then gets told to read her book, or stand at the front and write the names of the persistent talkers on the board Shock. So I haven't done much home reading with her at all, because she spends half the day doing it at school. I think they should be doing more extension stuff with her but as they aren't, I am doing that myself, instead of the reading. We're currently doing a stargazing project (hard with all this cloud and rain Hmm) and raising caterpillars into butterflies - boy, do those characters grow fast! Grin

And breathe. Off now to the hospital to have my back checked, so will try to check back in later. Have a good day xx

Sometimesiwonder · 09/07/2012 11:30

Oh - and she gets the class bully again Sad

MaryAnnSingleton · 09/07/2012 11:44

oh Sad sometimes

smee · 09/07/2012 11:50

Sad Sometimes. Have you got parents' evening anytime? Seems so unfair she's not with her mates and work wise they should be giving her more surely??! isn't there anyone on a level with her who they could pair her with for work projects? They seem to do that a lot in DS's school. At his they've taken it even further than that, so the whole school is taught literacy according to ability rather than age, so they all troop off to different classrooms each morning.

KurriKurri · 09/07/2012 11:51

Oh poor DD Sometimes - that is rotten luck - why do school's split children up like that? and after all the trouble you've had with that bully - you'd think the school could have managed to put her in a different class from your DD Sad

Your projects sound fun though - we grew ladybirds once from larvae - which was fun, caterpillars are eating machines - they just grow and grow - very hungry caterpillar had it exactly right!
And star gazing is great - do you have an observatory near you where she could have a look through a big telescope?

Hope your back is OK - how do you feel it is healing?

My very nice GP has just phoned and is giving me some drugs for neuropathic pain, he was very sympathetic and said ring back in a few days if they don't work and he'll up the dose or find something else. He said he's doing the script straight away so I can get them this afternoon. Hooray Smile

smee · 09/07/2012 11:54

Yay for nice GP, Kurri Hope the drugs work. Go get them asap. Smile

MaryAnnSingleton · 09/07/2012 12:03

hooray for gp kk !

LimeJellyforBrains · 09/07/2012 12:12

Oh Sad Sometimes. Unbelievable that she's in with the bully again and not with her friends. I have been trying hard to tell myself they have put DS where he is for good reasons eg compatible teacher, experienced with ASD, etc, but it's hard (especially as I don't know anything about this teacher). Am sure you are going through similar mental gymnastics. Hope Smee Jnr gets a better result. I think your school's literacy approach is a bit Hmm - doesn't it get very embarassing for the older children going into the lower groups with younger children?

Autumn Sad hugs for you. That biopsy sounds horrific, no wonder you are having flashbacks. KK is wise - ask for sedation if they need to touch it again. So sorry about your relationship too, but you do sound very strong and clear-thinking, which is very good. x

Hope Topsy and Gracie are having fun (in between the actual hospital stuff!). I can imagine you two giving the whole place a lift Smile.

KK hope those new drugs do the trick and you start to get better and sleep more straight away x

Happy Birthday little Sparkle!

Had a very busy weekend. On Saturday we went to the Childwickbury Arts Fair which was fab as ever, and yesterday we went to the evening event of the Olympic Torch relay which was very exciting. Walked miles tho and despite wearing trainers, this morning my poor feet bones v achy, am hobbling around, grr.

topsyturner · 09/07/2012 13:02

Happy Birthday Little Sparkle , hope you have a great day !

Sometimes I will never understand why some schools do the splitting the classes thing . I know DD would be devastated if she was moved .

Gracie disgraced herself at the hospital I'm sorry to report .
A student blood sucker perfusion services boy told her off for trying to scare other patients by loudly declaring that they have to saw your arm open to have a picc line and it is blardy agony Grin Grin Grin

She was of of course trying to put the willies up me and failed to take note of the lady in the wheelchair behind me ...

Have been de blooded , x rayed , ctd , spoken to the doc , and had my picc line inserted .
Picc line got inserted slightly to far so they had to withdraw it a little , but all us good now .

Off to have some lunch , left over beef stir fry and egg fried rice I think !

smee · 09/07/2012 13:10

Waving to Lime. Smile I was a bit Hmm about the literacy approach too, but should have explained, as they don't move children down in age so egos/ pride isn't knocked. Main thing it means is children working above their age are moved further up the school. Children who are doing less well stay in their year groups, but work in smaller groups to get more help. They also move teachers around, so a Year 4 teacher might teach a Year 2 ability level group, so it's hard to tell what level your child's at iyswim. They hurl resources at it too, so the head and deputies all teach a literacy group each, and TA's have small groups sometimes too, so that gives smaller class sizes. Each group reads a book a week, and they do lots of games/ writing around it. The children seem to love it so seems to work okay. Quite something to organise I'd imagine.

Your fair sounds good fun, though achy feet not so good. What are you going to do about it?? I can't decide about mine. Should we push for referral to rheumatologist? Confused

Gigondas · 09/07/2012 13:11

Is that why she isn't here? Has she been put on detention topsy?

Happy birthday little sparkles - venturing out to shops so will stock fbs.

Am glad dr has changed your drugs kurri as you have been through it.

Yes to meeting up smee as will can travel and do stuff just nothing that involves long jaunts/planes. Talking of which dh has just said will be away in new York for round 4 of chemo.. What can I get him to bring back that's expensive to make up for it?

OP posts:
Gigondas · 09/07/2012 13:12

The school thing sounds a bit rubbish smee and ill thought out. And am still aghast about the moving class thing ESP
When get left with bullies- on what planet is that a good idea Hmm

OP posts:
topsyturner · 09/07/2012 13:29

I've told her to go to her room and stay there Gigs , till she can come out and apologise to us all .

Hmm will have a thunk on what DH can bring you home ?
Gotta be clothes or gadget related .
Maybe a reeeeeeeeeely expensive handbag ?

NedSchneebly · 09/07/2012 13:35

Afternoon all - sorry been absent a bit - had DSis down for weekend, and had a lovely time.

Am Shock at all these ridiculous class arrangements - every school I have worked in have spent ages considering mixes and combinations of friends when reshuffling classes. Sounds like not too much thought has gone in to some decisions for tamoxifen DCs. Sad

kurri great to hear that you've got better drugs for pain and hope they kick in really quickly. Did I misread that you are coming to see your mum in Dorset? Would be good to meet for a coffee/ lunch somewhere if you fancy?

The thought of topsy and gracie causing chaos and disruption in the hospital makes me Grin !! Hope all appointments/ checks/ insertions all went according to plan.

Happy birthday little sparkle hope she has a lovely day.

autumn lovely to see you, my love. You've got so much on your plate. So sorry to hear that things are so tough for you at ghe moment. Stick here with us, feel free to rant/ offload/ share, whatever you need. We will be hear for you x x x

gig my second and subsequent chemos where much easier than my first. Ignore stupid thoughtless comments. Sending you lots of hugs x x

Sure I have missed lots - apologies to anyone I havent mentioned. Sending everyone big hugs x x x

LimeJellyforBrains · 09/07/2012 13:37

Ooh Gig - a whole suitcase full of these should cost quite a bit, and would always be my gift of choice from the US!

But maybe no longer, I am Shock at the 'Nutritional Information' - do they really mean 220 cals per 5g sweetie? How?

topsyturner · 09/07/2012 14:08

Ooooooh yum LJ , I would like a suitcase full of those !

AutumnSummers · 09/07/2012 14:17

Thanks everyone :) Smee You're bang on. I'm at a point where I don't feel like I could back even if I wanted to. i'll always care for him but, right or wrong, I bring out the worst in him. To get the best of him I have to keep back the best of me. I've known that for a long time now.

Sprakle I remember being 7. It was most awesome :)

gig I'm getting that Wine in for tomorrow night. There may be some drunk typing of a hilarious nature. we shall see :)

Ned Glad you had a good weekend. I love catch up times. It's like taking a day off.

Lime I missed our torch. It wuold have been nice to see. The magoc kinda melted though when I heard of folks flogging them on ebay lol

sometimes good luck at the hospital :)

I've not read 50 Shades of grey. I'm taying away because I don't want to be a sheep (I know) but am I missing anything? Most people I know who've read it are all "meh" ???

amberlight · 09/07/2012 14:20

Autumn, I've read it. Quite enjoyed it Grin

I'm in work in just my hair! No wigs!!! Scary/exciting/eek...

topsyturner · 09/07/2012 14:22

Not read it either Autumn , doesn't appeal to me at all !

topsyturner · 09/07/2012 14:22

X posted Amber , we want pics !

KurriKurri · 09/07/2012 14:28

I haven't read Fifty Shades - I had no idea what it was about until I started reading everyone on here talking about it. I thought it was another one of those vampire books like Twilight Blush Grin

Ned - I'm coming down on the 18th July (all being well) and we're going home on the 24th, I'd love to meet up if you have any spare time during that week, I'll PM you before I come down and maybe we can swap numbers and arrange something Smile

KurriKurri · 09/07/2012 14:29

Ooh amber - well done to no wig and displaying your hair, - that's brilliant Smile

Gigondas · 09/07/2012 14:47

Yay amber Grin. Just given mine an outing to m and s and the school outfitters (rock and roll here). So Florentines and Choc chip cookies for all - have also got my pack lunch for hospital.

I am with you about 50 shades of gray autumn - have no interest . A friend was going on about it and has even bought a whip in Anne summers to surprise her dp with (as far as I know it's still in her wardrobe so would love to know quite how she will bring that one up).

autumn If you are feeling you have to hold back that isn't good. Been there too often and didn't end well but never felt like that about dh. Also he was (on paper) all the "wrong" things you are not meant to look for (ESP if you head into the more evangelical parts of relationships) but I have been very happy. So what am trying to say is that there is always chance of happiness as everyone deserves a happy relationship.

Settled down on sofa with cuppa , biscuits and tv... It's nanny2 day so like Mary poppins is here in terms of peace Grin

Ok am looking on iTunes for films to watch. I am trying to fill in my gaps on films I should see but never have (quite like old films)- I prefer drama/romance/comedy or thrillers so nothing too dark or horror.

Was thinking about heartburn after late Nora Ephron (big when Harry met Sally fan) but any other tips? Am saving the way we were as a weep fest when dh away Smile

naughty gracie in detention ! Glad you got all your bits done topsy
Perhaps me and smee can coincide on a visit to gig's ? And ned tell me when you'll be in my neck of the woods !
I would insist on a caseful of peanut butter cups as they are great favourites of mine, and he could nip into Tiffany for a little something....

I have no desire to read that shades of grey book- I've heard it's badly written for a start !
I've just bought Elizabeth Taylor's Mrs Palfry at the Claremont having heartd much about her on R4 and am going to pinch the Salinger I bought for ds too.
Feeling a bit under the weather again- am thinking it might be something to do with T's germs so might go and lie down quietly.
