Rubs sore arse from being booted off the fbs trolley by Gigs Grin

Am at hospital , with coffee , waiting to be seen .
As ever I find it impossible to turn up anything less than 1/2 hour early for any appointments !

Nothing changed here from the last time I was under treatment . Still seem to be the youngest person in here by at least 2 decades !

Might be getting a little nervous now , don't know why , it's just blood tests today .

Sometimesiwonder · 18/06/2012 12:22

Hope they went well, Topsy Smile

Not feeling at all like work today. Have finished the proposal so I think I'll take to the sofa for an hour before I have to go out, I'm sure it is too be recommended following back surgery

smee · 18/06/2012 12:25

Good vibes for Topsy and Gig today. Hope the scan goes smoothly and they say yes to the Picc line, Topsy.

Gracie, I think they expect us all to have lots of problems, so don't worry about getting them to check your picc line.

Baskets, ouch, that sound nasty. Though as you say not sinister, so at least that's something.

Kurri, I guessed you were a Kookaburra. One of my most favourite birds. DS hates them, as two of them mugged him for a sandwich. Grin Hope you're feeling less itchy and sore today.

Ned, definitely go back to bed.

Sometimes, hope the pitching goes well. I've just finished a ginormous project. Am so used to calling the woman I've been working with, I dialled her this morning on auto-pilot. Totally confused her.. Grin

topsyturner · 18/06/2012 12:29

Bollocks !
Oncologist won't do chemo and herceptin till wound heals fully .
Delayed another 3 weeks Sad

smee · 18/06/2012 12:47

Oh no!! why on earth didn't they tell you that before. Such a thing to gear yourself up, then be told you can't start. grr, though I suppose it makes sense. If your Neutrophils drop you could get horrible infection in wound or something.

Lime, missed your post. Glad the boys had fun. Am Envy of your having woods close by. [smile

Sometimesiwonder · 18/06/2012 13:14

Oh no Topsy Sad It does make sense really, we don't want you getting a nasty wound infection.

LIme - glad the party went well. DD's birthday is also coming up - she is mad to have a bit of a 'do' (she always has before) but I have no idea how or when that will come to pass - we have weekends packed with social stuff (hers, I might add, not mine) for the next four weeks Confused I think I'll see if we can let it slip this time around...

Smee Grin I phone people on auto pilot as well, it is mighty confusing for all concerned Grin

Off to my Mum's friend's funeral shortly. He was nearly 90 and had been very ill for many years. Bloody sad, though.

smee · 18/06/2012 13:51

Sad Sometimes. Hope you can give him a sound farewell. Hope your mum's alright too.

MaryAnnSingleton · 18/06/2012 14:00

bah, my earlier post got lost when MN went offline- it was to offer topsy a calming hand on her brow- grrrrr about delay -but safest to mke sure wound is healed properly-but surely they must know it's not healed ? before making you all hyped up I mean.
sometimes well done for new business proposal and to smee for finishing big project - Grin @ you phoning the woman automatically !
Hope the funeral is ok sometimes Sad

Gigondas · 18/06/2012 14:34

Grr Topsy Sad ESP as I know exactly what you mean about the over 80s hall of experience when you go in. You can go back to fbs trolley too.

My arm is butchered as usual by ct injection- now I know where all the people who used to work in dewhursts are.

Wine o clock tonight I think before am interned.

Sometimes rest up. Kurri how is the itching?

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 18/06/2012 14:45

definitely wine time for you gig !
pain aux raisins on the fbs trolley !

Gigondas · 18/06/2012 14:51

Anyone for some salty sweet popcorn- it is surprisingly addictive

OP posts:
Figgyroll · 18/06/2012 16:09

Snaffles pain aux raisins AND salty sweet popcorn.

Oh no, Topsy, double bollocks, that's such a shame about being delayed. I know you want to get it all started asap. I can see their point though - this way you will avoid any nasty infections.

Gig, enjoy the wine - you deserve it. Well done for stern talk to nanny.

Sometimes, yay for finishing your proposal. Hope all your hard work pays off. I hope the funeral went well and the old chap had a good send off.

KK, are you less shingly today? I hope you're taking things nice and easy.

I've just got back from running a few errands - it's threatening to storm. The sky is black, it's feeling all muggy and the mozzies are out in force. I can't wait for some proper summery sunshine.

Just making a Brew and there's choccy digestives for the fbs trolley.

graciesmall09 · 18/06/2012 16:13

Home from work. Had long chat with boss and that is me now off until whenever. Feeling very sad today and scared, don't really know why maybe hormones.

Aw topsy hugs to you but you know it is wise. You could end up in real diffs if you got a nasty infection when having chemo.

gigs thinking of you tomorrow. Wine sounds like a good idea.

Hope the funeral was ok sometimes. No matter what age funerals are always sad.

Blush I can't remember where my name came from. Only things I can think of is my DD middle name is Grace.

Waves to everyone else. I have lovely strawberry trifle and cream if anyone wants some.

Gigondas · 18/06/2012 16:23

Mm Figgy biscuits

I can't blame you for wobbling. Work is part of normal life outside the world of illness so if you aren't involved, it can feel like you are being forced more into the "patient" role than you would like. At same time it can give you the space to focus on recuperation properly.

OP posts:
topsyturner · 18/06/2012 17:31

Right , am back on track now !
I have pre chemo on 11th July .
Picc line insertion and chemo on 12th of July .
Herceptin on 13th July .
DH already having kittens about how the heck we will make it to the hospital on those days as its the absolute height of the marching season here and a lot of the roads round the hospital will be closed for parades .
I have said that there must be something in place to allow patients access to the hospital .
He chuntered some more .
I got angry and hung up .
Honestly Mr Topsy , stop being such a knob !!!

In the time between now and the 11th , I have to get yet another ct scan and see the surgeon 2 more times .
Think I may just bring my duvet and sleep there Grin

DH now home , will see if he's in a better mood . If not - under the patio he goes !
Be back later .

Gigondas · 18/06/2012 17:59

Can't he just dress up and try to slope in as part of the march? Completely agree that will be access- just may take longer. It is in the not worth worrying about bracket.

Bad luck about more ct scan - I have a massive bruise on mine. Scan bloke " do you have blood thinning issues or do you take aspirin?" me " no you have just made a mess of my arm".

I have a mate from your part of the world who inspired my favourite ever office discussion of how he had never seen a pub fight but seen a few riots..

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 18/06/2012 19:27

Evening all, - sorry haven't been on today as shingles have knocked me for six and I've been asleep most of the day ad have raging headache when awake.

So fist chance I've had to catch upon events.

topsy frustrating about the delay, but sensible really - no point in having to deal with another nasty infection. Very disappointing when you have got yourself geared up for it though. I definitely think marches not worth worrying about - if you are delayed, they will still do your chemo for you. Maybe he is just transferring his worry? - my DH will chunter on about some minor irrelevant problem, if he's a bit worried about me.

Gig - grr about bruised arm - I don't know why some folk always seem to make a mess of putting a needle in, - you don't need that when you are having lots of needles anyway.

Figgy I am having one of your choccy biscuits and some of Gigs popcorn, and a pain au raisin (greedy moi???)

I hope the funeral went well Sometimes and your mum's dear friend had a peaceful send off, and that you aren't feeling to upset - so sad to lose old friends

Lime - sounds as if your DS had a great birthday, and good that the weather let them play outside - bet they all had a great time Smile

gracie - to you too, I hope you feel a bit better tomorrow, these sad, scared days creep up on us all from time to time, especially when you are having treatment as the drugs can make you feel low. I think you can only be kind to yourself, get through the low days and hope the next day is an improvement. You've been through so much, you are bound to find it all a bit overwhelming sometimes. xx

Baskets - I'd recommend The Bridge too, - it's really good, and as topsy says a great female lead character. I also loved The Killing, - but it has a lot of episodes (at least 20 IIRC) so is a bigger time commitment.

Well done on finishing your project Smee Smile

Waving to MAS, and Ned hope you are felling a bit better today ned Smile

apologies if I've missed anyone - brain not working very well today!

Baskets45 · 18/06/2012 19:36

Aw, Topsy, sorry to see your treatment delayed, but prob a good idea in circs. But annoying you trailed up there and got yourself all 'hyped' for nothing. Another example of NHS poor communication perhaps, annoying nonetheless, I know. I cant believe the hosp hasn't encountered prev probs in marching seasons - it's not the first year exactly and the hosp will have been in that location for ages. Either ppl will be a little late, and the system will cope, or ppl will get in somehow. I remember you saying a few weeks ago they'd given you a choice of further t/ment now or a wee delay - they wouldn't have done that if you'd not been able to wait, and you mentioned 'slow growing nodules'. In spite of that, it's hard to have geared yourself up though. Time to perfect your swedish though, perhaps get on with that 3000 word essay on the finer linguistic differences between swedish and danish as portrayed in 21st century crime fiction. Just an idea ......

Baskets45 · 18/06/2012 19:53

X posted with Kurri, again! Sorry you're poorly with shingles. Horrid. I agree about men 'chuntering when stressed about sick wives'. I still laugh about DH after my 1st liver biopsy (and iffy result), asking GP about pros and cons of cooking with different types of virgin olive oil (in terms of what was good or bad for my liver). She looked at him like he had 3 heads!! I was sitting there feeling shit scared as she had just told me/us v calmly, and in her inimitable tactless style, 'I've only come across one patient with this condition before and he died'. You couldn't make it up. Readers, i have a different GP now.

Mas, i can't believe we brought the same fbs - just as well there's lots of people here and they seem to like pain au raisin.

And I've been to Specsaver! Yay. We have very little money, but I'm working on the principle of you only live once. Going back Thursday for eye test and have 'reserved' a couple of frames.

I had a lovely 'free' coffee in Nero today, thanks to loyalty points, and had pain au raisin. Lovely. And the sun was shining, still is in fact. Rain tomorrow.

Hugs to all, I know I've missed detail as only skim read.

xxx

MaryAnnSingleton · 18/06/2012 20:11

two pain au raisins left !
ds has snaffled one - I think they're nicer heated up.

Feeling a bit achy today,my neck and everything, bad headache-am thinking it might be related to my latest blog post which I wrote this morning and made me feel rather gloomy ever since - is that possible-to ache in that way ?
Waves to kk and hope gig's arm isn't too bruised and sore.
I think I have earned enough points for a free coffee at Costa baskets ! I love Nero's coffee best as it's nice and strong.
A hug for gracie and sometimesafter the funeral and love to everyone that I've missed.

smee · 18/06/2012 20:43

Ooh hooray for free coffee, baskets. Smile

MAS, yes headache and aches are bound to be the blog. Quite a thing to do I think. I do think it's important. Very well written too. Smile

Kurri, sorry you're feeling knocked. Could the drugs be affecting you as much as the shingles? Sad

topsy, men are bizarre. Hope yours comes home with a saner head on.

Gig, have lost track. When are you in for chemo?? Is it tomorrow or Wednesday?

Gigondas · 18/06/2012 20:47

Tomorrow smee - hope picc line people do a better job than ct man.

Smile at baskets dh and olive oil.

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 18/06/2012 22:14

Free coffee tastes so much nicer than if you have to pay I find Grin

MAS - hope the aches settle down tomorrow -it could well be an emotional thing.

I think drugs could be affecting me, it does say they can give you a headache and make you feel dehydrated, -so I'm trying to drink plenty.

Gig - loads of good vibes for tomorrow, I hope everything goes well for you, and the picc goes in with no fuss. We'll all be thinking of you sweetheart xx

smee · 18/06/2012 22:34

Gig will be sending you the every best vibes I can muster, for a comfy bed, wondrous nurses and a well behaved picc line. You know we're all rooting for you, don't you? xx

topsyturner · 18/06/2012 22:41

Just a quickie to wish you all the fluffiest pillows and soothing nurses for tomorrow Gig .
Make sure you get yourself connected up to the interweb straight away .
