yikes- here we go...

OP posts:
topsyturner · 30/04/2012 15:37

Am out .
News is as follows .
Lung nodules have grown again , but not hugely . Was given choice of treating now or in a couple of months .
Going for the now choice .
So that means 6 months of Tax a d Herceptin side by side .

All in all not as bad as I was dreading .
And Onc says lung nodules not aggressive or fast growing so that's a bonus !

Gigondas · 30/04/2012 15:41

An glad the waiting is over. Also I would take being treated now (better than the wait and see) and fact they are not big or fast growing as positive news .
Six months is obviously a marathon but I would think that would give the bastard nodules a nice blast of chemo.

Sending you tons of love xxx

graciesmall09 · 30/04/2012 15:42

Glad the news was better than you hoped. Great news that lung nodules are not aggressive.

Hope you feel a bit better.

Gigondas · 30/04/2012 15:45

Would another pic of Tom jones in speedo help?

Sometimesiwonder · 30/04/2012 15:46

probably Grin

Could have been much worse.

Sometimesiwonder · 30/04/2012 15:48

Hit send too soon owing to dd reading over shoulder. Sorry.

It does sound not too bad, Topsy. The tax and herceptin is a bit of a slog, but the news about the slow growing not very aggressive nodules is quite a relief.

Gigondas · 30/04/2012 15:49

tom

graciesmall09 · 30/04/2012 15:51

Totally relieved to say gigs I can't see the link. Tom in speedos doesn't bear thinking about.

smee · 30/04/2012 15:52

Ooh Topsy, that does sound better than you'd thought - totally brilliant to hear it's slow growing. Smile Smile

Though still chemo again. I know you knew it was bound to happen, but hey. Do you know when you start? That'll be you, Eight and Ned all on Tax together.

Gigondas · 30/04/2012 15:54

And I promise to come up with another form of ginger so to speak everytime you need it.

MaryAnnSingleton · 30/04/2012 16:07

topsy huge hugs for being a brave soldier and am glad that it's not as bad as you'd imagined - we'll be with you all the way through the next bit of treatment - xxxxxxx

OP posts:
OneInEight · 30/04/2012 16:19

Topsy, I like the term 'not-aggressive' - less so the need for chemo. Now they have reduced the dose (mainly because I'd lost a stone in weight) I'm finding the docetaxol and herceptin manageable - certainly more so than the epirubicin so hope you won't find it too bad also.

smee · 30/04/2012 16:24

Glad to hear you're finding it a bit easier Eight. I found Tax easier too. Wonder how Ned's getting on..

topsyturner · 30/04/2012 16:59

Well gig has broken the Internet again trying to post porn pics of Sir Tom in his speedo !

I know ginger is meant to help sickness , but I think you might be adding to it Grin

Am home now .
And happy to think I am doing something about this Bastard Cancer again .
I dont like the thought of letting it be . Especially when I think of how quickly and easily it can spread to other parts of the body .
Whilst I have it under control , I would like to keep it there !

Thank you all so much for the positive thoughts and candles , and Amber for your brilliant facts .
It really does mean a lot to me Smile

LimeJellyforBrains · 30/04/2012 17:15

Well if you gotta have nodules, I should think slow-growing non-aggressive ones must be the best kind to have Smile. You must have very mixed feelings I should think, darling Topsy - relief to be 'doing something' against it but bah to chemo again. Glad you're feeling brighter x

smee · 30/04/2012 17:16

Hadn't thought of it like that Topsy, but I do get what you mean. You know what's there now, so that's power in itself. Long may that continue. Smile

Gigondas · 30/04/2012 17:26

I won't get into my lance armstrong speak but you can do it - and I do think knowing what is there makes a difference.

Need to peel myself out of bed now- today has been a bit of a crying fest meltdown

amberlight · 30/04/2012 17:30

Topsy, did I ever say 'cyberknife' to you? I think I did, but can't be sure.

Meantime, you'll be wanting to discuss www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa1113216 which shows they need to add pertuzumab in as well for best effect. Boosts the other two, it seems.

MaryAnnSingleton · 30/04/2012 17:35

a hug for gig - am just going to do your rough...

next door is having their drains sluiced - apparently it was 'jam packed' -eew-the man asked to look down mine which was thankfully clear.

smee · 30/04/2012 17:38

Nice to see Dr Amber's arrived. Interesting link. How are you feeling about the Herceptin now. Any more thoughts?

Gig, is your mum still there? Hope she is and giving you the rl hugs we can't. You be gentle with yourself now. xx

jchocchip · 30/04/2012 17:43

«hugs for topsy» I managed to distract myself in the garden, the sun came out! Don't tell dh I planted beans in the front, he thinks edibles aren't allowed in front gardens! bugger to have to go through treatment again, but I would have taken the straight away option too.

Letter from work today letting me know my job has been down graded in the single status thingy. For some reason I stopped working on my last report (at home, unpaid) and mailed it too my lovely boss. Sod it. we were told it was more likely to go up or at least stay the same. Better try and fix the mortgage... Never mind, we can always live on baked beans, oh no we can't dh doesn't like them. Oh well, run away with my cousin on Wednesday, and hope ds waters my plants.

amberlight · 30/04/2012 17:46

Smee, not sure about my thoughts. Nice nurse says don't do it. That's a clue, I think.

jchocchip · 30/04/2012 17:48

wholemeal loaf just about to come out of the bread machine. Time for a Brew I think and hot bread and butter...

NedSchneebly · 30/04/2012 18:02

Bleurgh. . . Feeling OK, I think. Not too sicky and no aches yet. . . When will they kick in, I wonder? Needed a small suitcase to bring home all drugs, injection stuff and a ridiculously dimensioned sharps bucket. . .

Come and join us on the Tax topsy I definitely agree that if you've gotta have bastard nodule thingys, then surely non agressive, well behaved ones are the ones to have. I agree with treating straight away and keeping what you've got under control. Glad not as awful as you were expecting. Big hugs winging their way across the water to you x x x
