Hello ladies, - just taking the plastic wrapper off a brand new thread Smile

OP posts:
holstenlips · 05/03/2012 20:14

MAS isn't Glinda the nice witch in wizard of oz :)
Ahh Smee, I have DS picture books (hes 18) and I love looking at them reminds me of when he was cute!
Yes my first work day went well, i mainly ate biscuits!

Gigondas · 05/03/2012 21:43

AngryAngry just taken dressing off and bloody scar looks like infected again. Sigh Sad

Yes France trip will be nice- we are going in car (about 6 hour trip incl crossing) . Dd1 ok with iPad. Hoping dd2 sleeps.

Holsten yay re first day going well.

Hello to everyone else

Gigondas · 05/03/2012 21:44

And agree re Ned being my heroine Smile

holstenlips · 05/03/2012 22:49

Oh Gig, arrgh on your behalf. I hope you get wound sorted. X

MaryAnnSingleton · 05/03/2012 22:56

oh gig what a bugger - grrr Sad
Glad work was ok and your boss is so nice holsten -ease yourself back in !
Glinda is very nice and not in the least witchy-was just intruiged by her name.It was nice to have company in the car as it was a bit of a journey.
Cat successfully injected - I always worry that I might not get it in, in fact bent the first needle trying to stick it in the insulin bottle Grin Have to go over tomorrow early in my pyjamas for next dose.

OneInEight · 06/03/2012 06:51

That name sounds awfully witch like to me too - was there a childrens TV programme once where it was used - can't remember which. Jealous of the France trip gig - just fancy coffee and croissants in a french cafe. Glad you had a good day at work Holsten.

Had bad news last night that they are recommending my dad has chemo too. He has prostrate cancer and the other treatments seem to have stopped working - I am still not sure it is the best option for a 79 year old with type II diabetes. My parents live a long way from us - it would be a bit surreal if we were being done next to each other in the oncology department I think.

NedSchneebly · 06/03/2012 07:06

Blush gig - thanks! but Sad that your scar is being a pain. Hope it won't spoil your trip to Frenchland. . .

Sad for your poor dad eight. How does he feel about having chemo? Does he feel that it's the right thing to do?

MAS good job on the injecting front. Grin

smee we have one or two very nostalgic babyish books that i am loath to get rid of yet, that I leave on the shelf for the occasional times DS lets me choose them! Blush

Head still itchy and a bit sore, but hair still in place. . .

MaryAnnSingleton · 06/03/2012 07:31

oneineight - Sad that's a blow about your dad. Apart from the diabetes,is he reasonably robust do you think ?
ned am off to feed and inject shortly !
I have kept many of ds's books- can't part with them- he likes to go back to his earlier chapter books I've noticed.
He has written on his facebook page that he's not looking forward to his drama performance today (part of their assessments) so must enquire about it without too much probing.
Coffee here and toasted hot cross bun loaf...

NedSchneebly · 06/03/2012 07:39

Mmmmm. . . .any hot cross bun loaf for the fbs trolley? Sounds yummy!!!

Good luck to DS for his Drama performance today - hope you can give him some subtle reassurance! Wink

MaryAnnSingleton · 06/03/2012 09:43

plenty of bun loaf- help yourself !
Told ds to breathe and be calm, he said he was a bit nervous - but I hope he'll be ok.

SparkleRainbow · 06/03/2012 10:15

Hi everyone sorry I have been awol, have been struck down with a head cold, eyes streaming, constantly sneezing, etc etc...., feeling a bit off, so not going to stop, don't want to infect anyone Wink

Hope everyone ok, haven't read back, sorry, but did see Gig's post about possible wound infection again...hope you manage to get some more AB today.

Thinking of you all. Will leave some giant chocolate buttons and hot cross buns on the fbs trolley on my way out.

KurriKurri · 06/03/2012 11:13

OneInEight - very sorry about your Dad, - But I'm sure they will take good care of him, and am also sure they wouldn't suggest chemo if they'd didn't thin it would help him, and if they didn't think he was physically able to cope with it. Still very tough to see him going through illness when you are ill yourself Sad

Gig - I hope they can get that wound sorted for you - what a pain.

Hello sparkle am making you a drink of hot lemon and honey, and wrapping a large duvet round you - so you'd better be sitting down taking it easy Smile

Our neighbours Mr and Mrs Neanderthal, are building a huge conservatory (at least that's what we think it is, - but it could be a bear pit for all I know Grin) so continual banging and diggers driving back and forth next door.

DD had an asthma attack last night - think she was stressed about her bedroom, and worn out from moving all her belongings around. She's fine now though.

Well done on cat injecting front MAS, and good luck to T for his drama assessment - hope it goes well for himSmile

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 06/03/2012 11:18

oh poor dd kk - probably stress, maybe ceiling dust ?
And poor sparkle - keep warm and snuggly - shall I toast you some bun loaf ?
Thanks for thinking of ds- am hoping he's ok with his drama thing- it's so hard to get any information out of him- you kind of have to pick your moment. The other day at dinner in the Thai restaurant he was very forthcoming about the New York trip which was lovely.
Hope our wound is ok Gig and that holsten is hving a good day off Smile

smee · 06/03/2012 13:12

Gig, that's so annoying about infection. grr and double grr.. Get to the doctors asap. Car journey sounds doable to France then. iPad in the car's a fantastic idea. Smile

OneinEight, I'm sorry about your dad. Might be worth doing some googling on chemo for prostate as maybe it's not as debilitating as ours. I have heard some chemo regimes are less of a haul, though obviously chemo's still tough no matter what you have. Sad

Waving to Sparkle whilst snaffling the chocolate buttons. Hope that cold goes soon. Smile

Ned, you sound a bit brighter today? Hope you are. Hair going's a bugger though, so take care. fbs essential. Wink

Kurri, asthma attacks are scary. Does DD panic, or handle them okay? Is the roof repair holding?

MAS, hope DS puts in a sterling performance. All this diplomacy round teenagers is not something I'm looking forward to. Grin

Lime, did you decide on insurance claim or not?

Smee calling Topsy, are you okay?? Been a couple of days and we haven't heard. Come back soon or I'll be on the plane over. Grin

Just wanted to share some wise words from my Acupuncturist, who told me to remember cancer is silent and mostly painless - it's only when it impinges on organs, etc that you get pain. So all aches and twinges that we anxt over are more than likely the body battling to recuperate or simply old age and decrepitude, but either way, probably not cancer!! I'll settle for old age and decrepitude any day. Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 06/03/2012 14:25

well said smee's acupuncturist !

Gigondas · 06/03/2012 15:02

Yes completely agree with smee acupuncturist .

Good news- scar doesn't look like its infected as redness/swelling went down within half an hour once I took dressing off. Just need to air it more (easier said than done) . Had 6 week check which went well (also checked scar for me). Lovely though my obstetrician is (was very sweet and concerned as to how I was doing ) its not enough to make me want more.

Kurri - your poor dd and grr re insurance (think I also had same issue when flat roof went).

Mas- am in awe of your James Herriot skills as have always had great trouble with animals and medicine (now have similar issues with midi gig Grin) .

One in eight sorry about your dad but agree that there are different types of chemo (this all comes under the heading of stuff I really didn't want to know - my head is meant for remembering old kylie lyrics and an encyclopedic knowledge of Mickey mouse clubhouse plots .. Not that).

Sparkle will leave a hot toddy on the trolley for you.

Going to laze now while mini asleep and midi out playing .

KurriKurri · 06/03/2012 15:18

Smee - I like your acupuncturist Smile - old age and decrepitude definitely a possibility hereGrin

Good that your scar seem OK now Gig (and that your Ob. was able to have a check for you.

DD usually OK with her asthma - but it can be quite scary for her sometimes, if meds. don't work quickly.

Has anyone seen my bookclub book? - I've put it down somewhere and can't find it anywhere. Have also mislaid my watch .
I'll sit and have a Brew while everyone looks GrinGrin

Just thought I'd pop in and say hi. I don't have breast cancer but have had uterine and bowel cancer in the past 12 months. Apparently not connected - one very rare the other very common. Both have been treated with surgery and both have a hopeful prognosis but I'm as jumpy as hell right now. My last operation was about eight weeks ago and I'm finding it tougher to recover this time - my stomach muscles are objecting! I've just started work again - from home at the moment cos I can't manage commuting right now. I'm finding it hard coming to terms with what's happened and finding a way of getting on with my life - reading your messages makes me feel a bit less alone

smee · 06/03/2012 15:43

Kurri, did your DH use your book to patch the roof?! Grin

Hello thenightisyoung. Blimey as if one cancer weren't bad enough. Am guessing they found the other when diagnosing, so maybe in a way that's a small bit of luck Eight weeks is very, very recent. I'd say you can't possibly know how to deal with it all just yet. The new normal is improbably hard to live with. I know I'm struggling with it and I'm well over a year on from treatment now. We have a virtual box where we lock paranoia. Come sit on it with us. It most definitely helps. Grin

amberlight · 06/03/2012 15:48

Hi the nightisyoung - welcome from me Smile and heck re your encounter with this undelightful cancer thingy. I haven't a clue about coming to terms with it, really, but can offer a nice line in virtual Brew if you'd like one, or something from the trolley?

Hello everyone else. Reading through. Brew all round, I think.

Argh here. Got to hospital, plumbed me into the machinery, took blood pressure - it's still sky high. On two sorts of BP medication. So they whipped out an ECG machine and took a heart trace and the oncologist was called...and she said that I'm not to have any more herceptin because, to quote her, there was no point saving my life from cancer and killing me with the herceptin instead. Shock So I now wait for Friday to see the heart specialist and find out what all the electric interference going on in my heart means and what they can now do about it. Most people get on fine with herceptin. I apparently don't.

Gigondas · 06/03/2012 15:51

Yes completely agree with smee acupuncturist .

Hello nightisyoung- not surprised you feel floored with 2 lots of big surgery. But am impressed you are back at work - that shows you Must be quite strong.

I would really like a cup of tea and a biscuit but can't be bothered to move from
Being minigig bed.

Gigondas · 06/03/2012 15:51

Not
Sure how I posted that twice Confused

smee · 06/03/2012 15:56

Heck, Amber that's all a bit terrifying. Cake sounds essential. Sit yourself down and have a hefty slice or two. Sad

Gig, I'm glad you posted twice as I missed it first time. Excellent news on the lack of infection. Smile

Gigondas · 06/03/2012 16:03

Have some more gin amber. Nice to
See your oncologist been to same charm
School as mineHmm

If they get bp issues sorted will they revisit herceptin issue

thenightisyoung · 06/03/2012 16:08

Smee, love the sound of the virtual paranoia box :) Strangely enough they didn't pick up the second when they were looking at the first. I have asked why it wasn't picked up on the CT scan and was told that it probably was either too early to show or that they just weren't looking for it. Fortunately I did get some symptoms and having had one cancer I wasn't inclined to ignore them!
