Can you tell me what you (honestly!) eat in a day?

I'm getting blood tests for weight loss this week - yeah, yeah, I know, poor me, huh? This isn't stealth boasting though - I am concerned and so is GP. However, I do wonder if I am actually eating enough or if I have lost sight of what is 'normal'. Or if I'm just busy and burning it off?

Breakfast - toast with butter
Mid morning - chocolate bar
Lunch - beans on toast
Dinner - chicken salad (chicken, bacon, leaves, tomato, grapes, cucumber, spring onion, red pepper, cheese, boiled egg, mayonnaise)

And am about to have a large bowl of ben and jerry's with melted chocoalte Grin.

I'm 5ft 1 and weigh 8 stone.

PicotFanStitch · 09/01/2012 20:45

I'm sure there are lots of ways of eating and staying healthy. I walk about 4 miles a day and run 20k a week, which probably helps. We're a thin family, though, and I do notice when people come round that a lot of them expect bigger portions than I'd usually serve. The other thing is that although I really like food, I only like the food I really like (which includes plenty of rubbish, but not everything). So I'll go hungry rather than eat horrible office catering, and I wouldn't eat boiled sweets or Quality Street even if I had an open tin on my desk (Maltesers are another matter altogether), and the idea of eating the kids' left-overs has no appeal at all.

Thistledew · 09/01/2012 20:48

Breakfast - two slices of wholemeal toast with either marmite or marmalade. Cup of tea. Small glass of juice.

Lunch - soup and roll, or 2x sushi wrap and edamame beans (approx 450 cals), or salad incl potatoes or lentils.

Home from work snack - couple of small matchbox size pieces of cheese and/or couple of slices of salami.

Evening meal - varies, pasta w bolognaise type sauce, curry and rice, veg and grilled fish or chicken w potatoes, mash veg and two sausages.

I have been watching my portion size so often serve up in a desert bowl no more than about 2/3 to 3/4 full.

Rarely eat chocolate, crisps, chips or sweets, but do tend to have a fancy, calorie heavy dinner on Sundays and a takeaway or eat out once a fortnight.

I cycle twice a week for 25-40 miles and take an energy drink for longer rides.

I'm 5"9 and weigh nearly 11 1/2 stone, but carry a lot of muscle so wear size 10.

girliefriend · 09/01/2012 20:57

This is fascinating.

I hope you are ok OP.

Normalish day at work.

2 coffees

meatballs and roast potatoe and veg

nut bar

orange

2 teas

2 slices of toast, 2 eggs and beans.

I is a savage. 5 foot 7 and 11 1/2 stone.

Mollydoggerson · 09/01/2012 21:38

oops and a kinder bar.

BalloonSlayer · 09/01/2012 21:41

Agree with Elephants and Fleetwood - yesterday I had a roast lunch with 5 different vegetables, tomorrow I am hoping to have a salad-based dinner (DH bought me new salad stuff today), but it was today's menu I posted which unless you count the raisins in my hot cross bun (which I DO of course) contained no fruit and veg at all.

Raising 3 difficult eaters (for different reasons) has made me look at the week's diet rather than the day's.

ivykaty44 · 09/01/2012 21:56

I went eating and I ate:

cereal for breakfast and cup of tea
home made carrots and left over veg in the fridge soup with tomato on toast and a fruit tea
hot chocolate and biccies in nero afternoon snack
chicken noodle soup which I made this afternoon with my dd2 followed by jelly with strawberries in which I made yesterday and I thought was never going to set.
a fairy cake and hot chocolate for bed time

ivykaty44 · 09/01/2012 21:57

oh and a hand full of prunes and a clementine

twooter · 09/01/2012 22:07

Bowl of cereal with sugar
Banana
Lentil soup ( big bowl) and 2 slices of wholegrain bread with honey
Apple
Jacket potato with beans and cheese
Handful of crisps
3 slices of Swiss roll
Toast with chocolate
Bit of a gingerbread house.

Worrying bit is that that is quite good for me.
Takes a lot of food to make me full. 77kg and 5'9

Haberdashery · 09/01/2012 22:09

This is really interesting to see what other people eat.

I had

Breakfast: large cup of coffee, two sugars, full fat milk. Toast and marmite with a fried egg on top. Satsuma. Another coffee.

Snack(s): five tiny fairy cakes (chocolate and coffee with hazelnuts), two cubes of Turkish Delight, another satsuma, a banana, two corn thins with butter and cream cheese, orange juice.

Lunch: Cornish pasty, salad with caesar dressing, Greek yoghurt with lemon curd, apple. Cup of tea with sugar. Fizzy water with a bit of Ribena.

Snack: Breadsticks and hoummous, cucumber, raw carrot.

Dinner: pasta with bolognese sauce, parmesan, salad, ice cream with tinned cherries, packet of Frazzles. Two glasses of wine.

Am about 5'5" and 7.5 stone. Would love to know how to put on some weight (not being smug just honestly v bad at it).

Popbiscuit · 09/01/2012 22:28

JC, Haberdashery- I thought people like you were an urban myth! You must be from very hardy stock Grin.

CEDR · 09/01/2012 22:57

I find this fascinating-not from a 'how much' perspective, but a 'woah, routine!' One!

I'm 5ft 10in,and pretty broad. Currently weigh 11st 7lb or so, but very active and relatively muscley.

Breakfast is usually a cereal bar, or fruit or toast/porridge at weekend.
Lunch is couscous and veg/feta or leftovers, or a sandwich or soup or sushi or a high cal salad... No routine there.
Dinner is always totally home cooked.... Pasta with veg/meat/sauce, cottage pie, lasagne, kievs, stroganoff, saus and mash, lentil stew, curry, paella, risotto, salad, home made meatballs or sometimes burgers.... All served with lots of veg and some carbs of some kind. Proper food.

Drink lots of water, a little tea. Snack on fruit and crisps! Yum.

baubleybobbityhat · 09/01/2012 23:00

OMFG Haberdashery!
