Can you tell me what you (honestly!) eat in a day?

I'm getting blood tests for weight loss this week - yeah, yeah, I know, poor me, huh? This isn't stealth boasting though - I am concerned and so is GP. However, I do wonder if I am actually eating enough or if I have lost sight of what is 'normal'. Or if I'm just busy and burning it off?

back again!

Yes (can't remember to whom I am addressing this), I am pretty skinney at 8 stone 5'6, but always was very skinny as a child. I seem to burn off fat very quickly. I know this sounds daft, but if I eat big meal, I almost feel it being metabolised very quickly. If I have a huge lunch, others may say - right well no need to have a proper dinner. That is not me, I will feel normally hungr come dinner time, which suggests that my body has already done what it needs to do with it??

Brekkie two bowls of museli, apple, mango, tea

snack apple and few mouthful of DS' lamb stew for lunch and a oatcake

lunch lentil soup, yogurt and an apple, skinny cappacino

snack - large handful of dried pineapple and raisens, half a hot cross bun

dinner - just enjoyed medium sized bowl of pasta in a tomato and mushroom sauce with some broccoli. Will have a yoghurt, an apple and couple of mouthfuls of DH's ice cream. third of a glass of red wine (just had an op, so can't have more)

Scorps · 14/01/2012 19:52

Back again!

Oatso simple apple and blueberry with water
Scrambled eggs (2 eggs), one veggy sausage, flat mushroom, one grilled tomato, couple of spoonfuls of spicy beans
Apple
Strawberry Muller Light
Quorn chilli with tons of veg, watercress salad

One hot choc, 2 coffees and a can of Diet Coke.

Haberdashery · 14/01/2012 20:55

Yes, bbface, that's me, too. I get hungry about an hour or so after I've eaten a perfectly reasonable meal. I am skinny and have always been skinny - my daughter is on the 2nd centile and I weighed what she does at 5 when I was 7. The most I've ever weighed as an adult is about 8 stone and a few lb, and that was when I was breastfeeding and was eating so much that I barely had time for anything else. I don't exercise as such, apart from walking a couple of miles most days, which is enough to keep me reasonably fit but not enough to be burning off many calories. Myfitnesspal reckons I'm burning off a hundred or so calories with walking a day.

I eat a good large breakfast, lunch and dinner and also several snacks throughout the day, calorific ones as well as fruit. I still can't put on weight. My average intake over the last few days I've been measuring it on myfitnesspal has been around 2600 calories. I'm about 7.5 stone and 5'5". I do have a tiny tiny frame, with very slim bones and tiny ribcage etc (take a 28 band bra) but obviously that's not something I can do much about! I'd just like to be able to buy clothes that fit me in shops (it's the waist measurement that's the main problem, really).

AgathaPinchBottom · 14/01/2012 21:21

Today: small bowl of cereal, lunch - cheese and potato tartlet with coleslaw, tomatoes, two pieces of bread and butter, falafel with hummus and two quality street; then for supper - chicken casserole with mash, green beans, ice cream and bottles cherries. One glass of cider, two glasses of wine. 5'10 and 9 stone 10. Food intake depends on how busy I am and whether I have time to cook etc. did have more time today. Op hope u get to the bottom of it soon.

bucketbetty · 14/01/2012 23:20

I'm piling on the weight, I can't stop eating at the moment. Just started on thyroxine but can't really blame that because I started eating madly before. Today, weetabix 2 for breakfast, didn't have time for lunch so had 2 weightwatchers biscuits, then a tub of fruit, 2 yogurts, 1 packet of squares. I made a pot of veg soup and had a bowl, then some grapes, then later a mushroom omelette. Then went to the shop and bought a bottle of red and a wholenut. I'm like a heffer.

I don't think any of you eat that much:

Breakfast - three rashers of bacon with fried tomatoes & toast with butter, or two boiled eggs with wholemeal toast & butter or porridge or Greek yogurt with fruit.

Snacks (11 am), Banana, smoked mackerel, cheese, crumpets with butter, salami, hummus, pitta any two of the above.

Other snacks - raisins, dried apricots, cheese, apples, satsumas, chocolate, salami, anything that's in the fridge.

Lunch - salads with two avocados, tomatoes, leaves, onions, cucumber, bacon, home made dressing, home made soup, crusty bread & butter, sandwich with cheese, chorizo, onion, tomato, leaves, tomato, jalepeno, loads of mayo, three slices of bread & a pile of crisps. Or tuna mayo with red onion & a pile of crisps with a pickle on the side. Or a cheese & ham toastie with a big salad on the side - or home-made smoked mackerel pate with toast, butter & a big salad with home-made dressing .

Afternoon, fruit or cheese or cake or chocolate or all four depending.

Children's tea - pasta, what we're having, omlettes, etc, etc, etc - generally eat about a third of that. Whatever they leave.

Pre-supper snack - maybe hummus or home-made blue cheese dip with either crudites or posh crisps.

Supper - depends on season or effort, roasts, game, pies, pasta, curry etc etc

Before bed - a smidgen of chocolate or some such.

Tea, tea, tea - loose leaf in a pot, fizzy water, wine & the occasional coke from a glass bottle (buy a six pack a week).

& any other snacks I feel like.

5' 8" - 9 & a half stone

spiderslegs · 15/01/2012 05:06

& any fat from what ever anyone else is eating, chicken skin, duck skin, egg yolks, Sunday's goose fat potatoes fried up the next day with an egg on top...

DH can't do crackling & I've convinced the DCs they cant so any & all crispy pig fat with extra salt from any pig joint, the hairier, the better.

I bloody love fat - DH & I are Jack Spratt & his wife.

anna26anna · 15/01/2012 05:58

To the OP - (I've just had time for the first and last page, so this may have been mentioned in the middle) - I find using the Weightwatchers site great for just tracking what you eat - for awareness of whether your daily consumption is average/more/less than recommended. They generally offer a free period of usage and it might be interesting for you to track for a few days. Super simple to use, takes me about 2 mins to put in all I've eaten in a day.

I'm using it for a half-stone weight loss just now. I'm in the just-passed-35 danger-zone, have spent most of the last 6 years breastfeeding three children and matching my husband mouthful for mouthful with monstrous dinners, and now it just has to stop. Good luck with finding out the reason for your weight loss, hope you get it sorted.

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 15/01/2012 13:41

MrsHeffley, OK, I'm somewhat reassured. Smile

bbface, me too ? I don't understand people (like my DP) who say they're not that hungry for dinner because they 'had a big lunch'. My response is 'But that was hours ago!' In fact, I often find that the bigger a meal, the hungrier I am for the next one ? does your stomach/system get used to a certain amount of food?

The rest of yesterday went:

two more rye crispbreads with avocado. A whole raw courgette.

Dinner was wholemeal pasta with a sauce of tinned sardines and tomatoes, onion and courgette. Two slices of rye toast, buttered (proper butter).

Herbal tea. Large handful Kettle crisps. Two small bits of Chococo milk chocolate.

Today so far: usual bagel, two soy coffees.

Darjeeling, square of Chococo milk chocolate. Large slice white sourdough bread, plain (have always had a weird liking for dry bread Hmm ). Having brown-rice salmon sushi for lunch and the same pasta dish for dinner.

My eating habits go to pot over the weekend ? I'm either out and eating sandwiches from cafes, too much tea and cake, and burgers for dinner, or when I'm at home like this weekend I just eat any crap that crosses my path during the day and uninspiring dinners!

Must. Try. Harder.

Popbiscuit · 15/01/2012 14:08

Yesterday:

Oatbran with bananas and walnuts, bit of maple syrup. 2x coffee with soymilk.

Leftover Veg. and chickpea soup with green salad, 1/4 cup guacamole and some rice crackers, blackberries and kiwi. Green tea.

Brazil Nuts

Dinner was out (DH's company party): Glass of white wine, glass of red wine with dinner which was caprese salad with olives and avocado and main course of Black Cod with tomato and a miniscule artful swirl of potato puree. I was still hungry when we got home so had a whole wheat english muffin with vegan butter and jam at midnight.

ameliagrey · 15/01/2012 14:18

I find that the bigger a meal, the hungrier I am for the next one ? does your stomach/system get used to a certain amount of food?

In a word, YES!

I have one main meal a day- either lunch ( rarely my big meal) or dinner.

Today I have eaten

a boiled egg for breccie and a slice of gluten free toast.

Snack- about 4 brazils and a few raisins and a couple of oatcakes.

Lunch- homemade lentil carrot and butternut squash soup. Apple.

Dinner tonight will be pheasant, roast pots and parsnips, carrots, sprouts and possibly peas or swede.

I can't do dairy so take supplements.

Drink water and herbal tea.

Done a 3 mile uphill then downhill walk.

Ooh, this is very timely - similar to the op, I've been losing weight and although I know why, it's only in the last month or so that I've been able to eat. So today:

2 slices white toast with butter (lots) and marmite, 2 lattes

Birthday tea for friends dd - 2 small slices pizza, 2 duck spring rolls, 2 other Chinese nibble things, 1 chicken goujon

Not hungry now but will probably have a piece of toast before bed, and most likely a couple of glasses of wine

5' 7", 8 stone 9. Working on getting to 9 stone, and would like to get to 9.5 stone eventually.

Foxinsocks · 15/01/2012 20:04

I like reading what people eat :-)

Yesterday I had

Breakfast : scrambled egg on toast
Lunch : ham, lettuce and egg roll
Dinner: roast chicken, 7 Blush roast potatoes, carrots, peas, corn and gravy plus hot choc with cream and marshmallows

Today
Breakfast : nothing (don't normally eat anything other than an apple in the morning)
Lunch : 5 slices of pizza
Snack: orange
Dinner: spag Bol with grated cheddar on top and about 8 little pieces of choc (hate jt normally but I'm pre menstrual)

I went for an hour long bike ride yesterday and gym for about 40 mins today.

Am a healthy weight bmi but could do with losing about 2kg

Foxinsocks · 15/01/2012 20:06

I lost a lot of weight suddenly last year and was diagnosed with an unexplained inflammatory disorder! They still don't know what it is despite millions of tests. They were convinced it was coeliac disease but a biopsy ruled it out!

Foxinsocks · 15/01/2012 20:06

Ps good luck with the blood tests

cunexttuesonline · 15/01/2012 20:48

Love reading food diaries..

yesterday -
2 slices of cheese on toast with apple chutney
grapes
lamb dhansak, rice, onion bhaji, bit of popadom, bit of nan
3 chocs from thorntons xmas box
drinks of tea, water, ribena, fresh orange and 1 beer with the curry

today -
2 caramel digestives and tea for breakfast
big mac meal with a chicken burger on the side, coke
fizzy ribena
leftovers of saturday's curry for tea and some chips, water to drink

OK that is appalling! But to be fair, I don't eat like that all week, just on the weekends. Blush

I'm 5'7.5'' and go between 9.5 - 10 stone. I need to lose a bit really,to be closer to 9 stone or just under. I have a small frame and don't carry weight well.

floraeasy · 23/03/2017 15:05

Done a 3 mile uphill then downhill walk

Is that 3 miles up AND down i.e. a six mile walk in total? Pretty impressive either way!!

Today, I have eaten:

A bit of baguette with Bernoulli spread and honey for breakfast.

Coffees with sugar and milk x 3.

One oatcake with peanut butter and a banana for lunch.

Will be a WW ready meal with lots of steamed veg.
Followed by a Caramel bar.

Not great! I have weight to lose. My BMI is 30. Used to be 19 effortlessly!!!

I often don't feel all THAT hungry, but when I start eating it's hard to stop. What's that all about?!

floraeasy · 23/03/2017 15:05

^ DINNER will be a WW meal, etc.....

Noodoodle · 23/03/2017 15:33

Bloody hell my diet is shocking compared to most here. I don't really "do" breakfast only maybe once a week I'll have toast for it...
Today:
A packet of crisps
2 chocolate biscuits with a cup of tea
A pepperami

We'll have dinner later maybe sausages/beans/chips or some chicken with sauce and rice.

Yesterday I had
Couple of biscuits with a tea
Toasted cheese sandwhich
Chicken curry with rice and a naan bread

I think I'm going to write it all down for a week. I don't generally eat lunch or I do feel really full up and will eat dinner but wont look forward to it or feel like I need to. Work used to make big deal about lunch breaks so I'd eat noodles every day. Every single day. But if I had them late I'd feel to full for dinner so now I don't have to, I don't. Dc's eat ok though, always breakfast, lunch, dinner and a snack or two.
