Can you tell me what you (honestly!) eat in a day?

I'm getting blood tests for weight loss this week - yeah, yeah, I know, poor me, huh? This isn't stealth boasting though - I am concerned and so is GP. However, I do wonder if I am actually eating enough or if I have lost sight of what is 'normal'. Or if I'm just busy and burning it off?

Good grief ... none of you eat anything. I'm surprised you have the energy to sit in your chairs and read Mumsnet. Just realised what a pig I am (and the stress of that sent me scurrying to the peanut jar).

bonkersLFDT20 · 09/01/2012 23:34

OP, I hope you are going to print this out and show it to your health care people! There is clearly ALOT more to weight than just what people eat!

I hope you solve your weight loss concerns.

papooshka · 10/01/2012 03:24

Usual day for me would be

Porridge with honey or muesli with nuts and seeds for breakfast
Snack of almonds or banana mid morning
Sandwich for lunch of tuna mayo/cheese or sardines on toast all usually with small bowl of salad
Snack in afternoon maybe rice cake with Philly
Dinner, chilli with rice or spag Bol or chicken stew

Usually about 3 cups of tea, a bowl of fruit and a choc biscuit along the way too.

I am 5'7 and just over 10 stone

Chandon · 10/01/2012 07:41

CEDR you are my food-twin !

me I'm 6 ft though, and about 12 stone.

I love normal, real food.

not snacking on 4 almonds and half an apple at mid morning Grin

Haberdashery · 10/01/2012 09:41

Don't be jealous! I would love to put on some weight. Was really happy when I was breastfeeding and made it to over 8 stone for the first time in my life. If I don't make an effort to eat loads I just lose weight and end up too skinny. I don't like it.

baubleybobbityhat · 10/01/2012 10:09

Sympathies Haberdashery. It is very difficult when you cannot be the weight you'd like to be!

But posts like yours do a lot to blow the myth that everyone's metabolism is basically the same and us fatties are just greedy and eat more than anyone else.

My bil is mid 40s and slim, not skinny, he just about looks the perfect weight for his height. I have known him 20 years and he always stays the same. And yet every single meal I have ever eaten with him he has gone back for seconds (almost the same amount as his original plateful) and eats a constant supply of snacks, late night suppers etc. It is all quite healthy stuff, but he is legendary for eating a colossal amount. The funny thing about him also is that he VERY sedentary, doesn't take any exercise, unlike lots of skinny people who can never sit still.

baubleybobbityhat · 10/01/2012 10:16

Is it just me or is the judginess from Amelia Grey on this thread a bit Hmm. Who actually asked for your opinions AG?

I am not in denial about my wine drinking. I know it is over the Government Guidelines. This is because I am of average intelligence and listen to the radio and read newspapers. I simply disagree that it is "way over".

And if I were in denial, do you think a trite comment like yours would be constructive? fgs.

shumway · 10/01/2012 10:23

Breakfast - choc chip muffin.
Lunch - 2 cheese and ham sandwiches, apple, crisps.
Dinner - whole pizza or chicken curry with rice or ham and cheese pasta salad or pie and chips.
Pudding - carrot cake or cheesecake or chocolate bar.
Blush

jasperJohns · 10/01/2012 10:33

Yesterday I had -

Breakfast - 2 slices of toast with marmite, tea
Lunch - cooked cafe breakfast of aubergines, mushrooms, peppers & beans with tea & toast
Dinner - chicken chasseur, mash, broccoli

Plus large rum & coke. Packet of munchies (got petrol, lethal)

I eat & drink loads but exercise loads too otherwise I'd no doubt be a porker. I'm 5'7" and weigh just under 10 stone

BalloonSlayer · 10/01/2012 10:37

shumway that sounds lovely, much more like it. Grin

MamaMaiasaura · 10/01/2012 10:42

I forgot to add the "leftovers" I scoff nibble from ds2 (jammy bread crust this morning and green jelly and custard yesterday) Blush

Sausagesarenottheonlyfruit · 10/01/2012 10:43

Breakfast: 3 ryvita with cottage cheese

Mid morning snack: banana

Lunch: 3 ryvita with cottage cheese, yoghurt.

Dinner: usually a chilli or spiced dish of meat & veggies (not potato or rice though).

Sometimes have a couple of dates or a Nakd bar, or hilights hot choc to keep me going.

This is what i eat every day. Boring isnt it?

Sausagesarenottheonlyfruit · 10/01/2012 10:46

P.s I'm teetotal, so don't even have an occasional glass of Wine to cheer things up! Sad

Sometimes it's best to be blunt Smile

If you post on a public forum what do you expect?

Whatever you say now, your over reaction and defensiveness seems to show that my comment, however trite, ( and I don't think that is the right word really here) got to you.

whether you act on your knowledge is up to you- but 24 units a week is almost double 14- whatever you want to believe.

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 10/01/2012 10:57

ameliagrey, I think your comments have come over as judgemental and sniffy too (particularly 'well- be in denial if you wish.') And you haven't passed any comment on my own eating habits, and I don't drink, so it would be hard to argue that I was over-reacting.

MamaMaiasaura · 10/01/2012 11:21

I don't generally drink as permanently breastfeeding or pregnant but AG this thread wasnt a thread about alcohol consumption and neither was it to pass judgement on others. You may be right you may be wrong but your opinion was neither requested nor required.

legallyblond · 10/01/2012 11:54

ameliagrey - I really do think you need to chill out. As you will see from my post above, I have had a rather rocky road with eating (hospitalized for anorexia in the past) but have learnt that there is no need or call to be judgemental about what others eat. If you are involved in, say, primary healthcare, by all means educate. Bear in mind however that everyone who posts on this thread will be aware if what is and is not good for them (bearing in mind (a) that it is personal - eg it would realllly not be "good" for me to eat two ryvita for my lunch; and (b) the jury is out on what is actually "good" for us en masse - so for instance, there is a significant school of thought which thinks that animal fats are BETTER for you than many of the processed oils in low fat spreads etc) and will make their own choices on a daily basis.

So, for instance, I have learnt to value the choice of socialising and enjoying a meal with friends over and above the fact that the contents of that meal might make me feel uncomfortable. If served with something unhealthy, or if everyone else was scoffing fish and chip say, I would now just eat up and shut up and get on with enjoying myself, rather than requesting a salad (yawn).

Obviously we all have totally different metabolic needs as well and some of your earlier posts seem to completely miss the point about bmi - the taller you are, the more you need to weigh to be healthy. I, for instance am 5'11". So at over ten stone, I am pretty skinny with a bmi of about 20.5. I am a size 10, occasionally a size 8. My jeans are 26 or 27. I was hospitalised weighing about 7 and a half stones, with a bmi of around 15-16, I think (its a bit hazy....). But If I were 5 foot - 7.5 stones would be normal for me, or maybe not even that slim... If you are going to be so so critcal (which really is uncalled for) you need to understand how bmi works.

Sorry to get at you (I really wouldn't normally respond), but this is, I admit, a subject which pushes my buttons, and I think that we, as women en masse, really, really need to stop criticising eachother about what we eat! I have not seen a single daily diet on here that I would consider to be badly unhealthy. A bit chaotic - sure - but then we are, for the most part, busy parents juggling two million things a day!
