Can you tell me what you (honestly!) eat in a day?

I'm getting blood tests for weight loss this week - yeah, yeah, I know, poor me, huh? This isn't stealth boasting though - I am concerned and so is GP. However, I do wonder if I am actually eating enough or if I have lost sight of what is 'normal'. Or if I'm just busy and burning it off?

Also I do think your body often knows what you're short of, and makes you hungry for that thing. If you're worried about your weight, OP, just have more of what you fancy eating.

For instance, I am veggie but for about 4 days every month I get the MOST fantastic meat-cravings because (I presume) it's my period and my body wants me to have more iron. I also have low blood pressure and get very strong urges to eat salty foods sometimes, which apparently (found out recently) is good for increasing your blood pressure.

BalloonSlayer · 09/01/2012 18:08

Yes ameliagrey I do eat a lot of butter. Always have done. The last time I had my cholesterol done I think it was the higher end of normal but still in the normal range. As I don't eat a lot of meat (DH is a vegetarian) it ought to be lower though. I'll have to get it done again some time.

I don't think a 67 calorie pack of mini smarties and a couple of minstrels count as a lot of chocolate though. And that not-naice ham - which is what I like - is quite low fat I thought. Not that I'm worried whether it is or not, I eat it because I like it.

You will probably blow a gasket when I tell you that I got under nine stone for the first time in 5 years - indeed lost 11lbs! - by starting to eat peanut butter again at the rate of a jar a week. Grin

Popbiscuit · 09/01/2012 18:11

Peanut butter is really, really satiating so it probably displaced some of the other crap things you might normally eat.

PreHeatedOven · 09/01/2012 18:13

Today
2 cups red bush tea
2 biscuits
2 slices of toast with pâté
1 diet coke
Bowl of pasta
Chocolate
Glass of wine

Weigh about 9 stone ish. Which is normal for me. I have eaten lots over Xmas.
Hope all is ok OP

BalloonSlayer · 09/01/2012 18:14

Yes that's the secret. If I have a peanut butter sandwich I don't crave crisps.

Good luck with the results nethunsreject. A friend of mine suddenly lost a load of weight with no other symptoms and it turns out that she is coeliac.

Today I had
Breakfast: a banana, tea
Snack: plain chocolate biscuit, tea
Lunch: mushrrom soup, fresh bread roll (no butter)
Evening meal: Ciabatta pizza, huge salad, 4 squares of Daim chocolate, 2 small glasses red wine

I'm not on a diet, I just don't have a huge appetite any more

BalloonSlayer · 09/01/2012 18:15

Thing is with threads like these is that 95% of the people that post on them are people that are really PROUD of what they have eaten today.

People who are ashamed of what they have eaten won't post.

I, clearly, ought to be ashamed but am not.

I am actually quite hungry but owing to this thread am not going to have anything till dinner time.

Bunbaker · 09/01/2012 18:19

I'm not proud. I will have some more chocolate later Grin

baubleybobbityhat · 09/01/2012 18:20

Muesli or fruit n fibre (sometimes with a banana) and semi skimmed milk. Glass of juice.

Soup or a sandwich or cheese or an egg on toast for lunch. Or cheese and crackers. Or pitta bread and hummus and olives, you know the sort of thing.

Piece of fruit in the afternoon.

Main meal in the evening. Usually homecooked and always with vegetables or salad. Never have dessert.

A couple of boiled sweets per day (a habit still not kicked from my giving up smoking days), 3 mugs of tea with milk, 2 mugs of coffee with milk and a sugar.

Half a bottle of wine 3 or 4 times a week.

Am about 35lb overweight.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 09/01/2012 18:21

Exactly, BalloonSlayer - I read the thread and nearly didn't post. I'll often eat an entire large bag of crisps by myself and yet somehow I'm still alive and the world hasn't fallen off its axis. Also, of course, it is New Year so people are eating in the way they'd like to eat the rest of the year, before they realise life is just not worth living without Reese's Pieces.

BalloonSlayer · 09/01/2012 18:24

Haha Elephants I've just scrolled back and found your list and it's about the only one on here I could bear to eat.

ceebeegeebies · 09/01/2012 18:27

Ah to join the 'big eaters' I will post what I have had today Grin:

Breakfast - big bowl of Shreddies
Snack - one slice of toast with peanut butter
Lunch - cheese and tomato toastie, salad and bag of crisps
Snack - rather lovely homemade (not by me Wink) cupcake with lots of icing on it
Snack - hot cross bun, butter
Tea (won't be eating till 8) - jacket potato, bolognase and some grated parmesan on
Supper - not sure - depends if I am hungry.

See, I have a huge appetite, always have done and struggle to satiate it tbh. Hence why I am size 16 I guess - however, I have also done an hours Bodycombat class this morning.

I am actually monitoring my calorie intake as I am dieting and I do seem to average 2000 calories a day but I also go to the gym 4-5 times a week and burn at least 700 calories each time so I do have excess calories to play with.

Popbiscuit · 09/01/2012 18:28

Elephants; I'm really boring and eat like that all the time. It makes me feel better mentally and physically and I do notice that if I start slipping back into bad habits I notice my energy levels drop and if you saw all my female extended family you'd instantly understand why. Diabetes also runs in my family and I have PCOS which is hugely affected by diet and exercise.

Ifancyashandy · 09/01/2012 18:30

I roughly follow WW Points (old style) as used it to lose over 3.5 stone a couple of years ago. Was 13.9 stone, am now 10 stone (5'8").

Today
Measured bowl of porridge made with water, topped with small banana, sultanas and honey. Splash of skimmed milk on top.
Pot of coffee with skimmed milk
4 rice cakes with low fat spread and marmite
Skinny capuccino in a cafe
Small bowl of homemade vegetable soup
A carrot
2 satsumas
two litres of water

Having chicken stir fry with tonnes of vegetables for dinner. No rice / noodles.

Probably a cup of warm milk and honey, with two crackers before bed.

I am VERY strict during the week - low carb, low fat, high protein, no booze but much more relaxed over the weekend, when wine, crisps and dips often make an appearance.

I know some would say I am too strict but it works for me and I prefer being the size and shape I am to how I was before. I also exercise 5 or 6 times a week.

ameliagrey · 09/01/2012 18:32

I am genuinely shocked Shock at how many people's daily diets here include no fruit or veg, and nowhere near the minimum of 5 a day.

ameliagrey · 09/01/2012 18:35

Half a bottle of wine 3 or 4 times a week.

This is way over the limit of 14 units for a woman.

A glass is roughly 2 units.

That's 6 units per half bottle. Tines 3=18units, x 4= 24 units.

GentleOtter · 09/01/2012 18:35

bowl of vegetable soup

haggis and turnip

fruit

six pints of water

Scorps · 09/01/2012 18:40

Today I have eaten

A Boost chocolate bar
Vegetable soup, one slice of bread
Bowl of white pasta with vegetables (broccoli, sweetcorn) and chicken, soy sauce
about 1000 cups of coffee, milk, no sugar (well about 6 cups)

I haven't eaten much today, looking at it... I didn't really have breakfast and had chocolate with my coffee about 10amish. Breakfast is normally a Muller Light and a banana

I'm 5'9 and about 8st normally (8st 3lb at moment - bloody Xmas and mince pies)

Breakfast: one slice wholemeal toast with sunflower spread and marmite or marmalade. Tea.

Snack: apple, or corn thin, or on bad days - a biscuit.

Lunch: eg ham/salad sandwich, satsuma, and either some fruit puree with low fat cream or a low fat choc mousse. And, inevitably, a decaf coffee and a couple of chocolates Blush

Snack: corn thin with cheese, or fruit, or raw veg, or biscuits, or bits of the kids' left over tea, or - most likely - all the above.

Supper: fish/chicken/occasional meat with fresh veg or salad, or a baked potato with salad, or an Innocent Pot when feeling blobby. Followed by some sort of sweet thing again - jellybeans, or chocolate, or other treat.

Basically, I eat very healthy meals and lots of veg, but have a horribly sweet tooth and eat far too many sugary desserts/chocolate. Really, really need to cut down/stop those.

I weigh 8st 12-13lbs, at the grand old age of 51, and am 5'4" - about right for age and height, I think.

SquishyCinnamonSwirls · 09/01/2012 18:49

See, I eat far less than a lot of you and am in a size 18!
Today has been:
Bfast: Porridge with blueberries and a tsp of honey, cup of coffee with 1/2tsp brown sugar
Snack: 2 satsumas, large glass of water
Lunch: Ham and low fat coleslaw sandwich in 2 slices of granary wholemeal bread, banana, large glass of water
Snack: apple and cup of tea with 1tsp sweetener
Dinner: Cod in parsley sauce (home made with 2tsp butter), new potatoes, carrots and broccoli, large glass of water
Supper: I made some peach and mango sorbet earlier in the ice-cream machine so that'll probably end up being my 9 o'clock snack.

Elibean · 09/01/2012 18:51

ps I don't drink any alcohol, which is probably why I get away with eating chocolate and not putting on weight...

Elibean · 09/01/2012 18:52

Isn't it all about individual metabolism, though? Surely genetics play a part? I used to be able to eat masses and never weighed more than 8st (pre-kids, and pre-menopause - both of which changed things).

Whereas my best friend can't, and never could.

"I'm 5'9 and about 8st normally (8st 3lb at moment - bloody Xmas and mince pies)"

Even at 8st 3lb you are skinny for your height. I am 5' 7" and weight 9.5 stone and get fed up with people calling me skinny. Perhaps it is because I have no boobs Sad
