fengirl1 · 31/03/2012 20:49

Ben - that's not TMI, actually I'm grateful you said it because I feel particularly deformed in that department and wondered if it would be any different. I have hope now that I might feel AND look normal. Smile

l4k · 31/03/2012 20:56

hi ladies,
I posted on here when I had my op last november,I had a posterior and anterior repair, vaginal hyster and perenium repair.had an eventful recovery with a haematoma and infection and being re-admitted for 4 days but once I got passed 6 weeks,it was all good.

Until, about feb time, instead of weeing straight down like I have been post op,the stream is going directly forward again. Also I'm feeling a bit looser with "relations" again.
So finally made myself have a look and there is a bloody bulge againAngry

I have a check-up with the hospital next week(because of the post op complications) and I will tell them but what will they do?What can they do?
I can't even contemplate the idea of another op.

Has anyone had any experience of this?
Help pleaseSad

I know.I've been pretending it's still fine because I can't bear the thought that it's not.
I haven't even mentioned it to dh because he'll be so disappointed that it hasn't been a complete success for me.Although it's still so much better than it was pre-op,I think that's why he doesn't seem to have noticed.

I haven't told anyone,it's like a dirty secret all over again.I didn't do anything I shouldn't either,no lifting etc.

l4k · 31/03/2012 21:22

x post- yes,I think it is just the cystocele.
But stillSad

Ben10NeverAgain · 31/03/2012 21:29

:( ldk. Can they redo the anterior repair? So sorry for you :(

fengirl1 · 31/03/2012 22:20

Ask when you go for your check and take it from there. They can do a re-repair and may choose to use mesh if the first one has failed. Don't lose all hope tho. You are better than you were before, just not quite right yet (assuming your bulge isn't due to over-doing things which it could still be at this stage.) I'm a fume one to talk, but try not to worry until you know.

fengirl1 · 31/03/2012 22:21

Fine not fume!!!

Butterballbrown · 31/03/2012 22:30

hello, i'm new to this site and i would really like to access your original "Rectocele and Repairs" thread on this issue with all the information - can anyone link to it as although i've searched i cannot find it. thanks!

after giving birth 5 weeks ago, i've realised that all is "not right" and all my symptoms add up to some kind of prolapse - my symptoms are:
a feeling of heaviness bulging down
on checking there is some kind of tissue almost hanging out of me.
serious constipation and IBS since giving birth
a feeling of pressing into my front passage when constipated / needing BM
not much control over passing wind

i'm going to the doctor this week but before that would like to be a bit better informed. hope to read some of your stories soon.

happy2beme · 31/03/2012 22:35

hi 14k- sorry to hear this, my friend had a recent anterior and posterior , her stitches (internal ones) pinged and she had a redoo last week which was 10 wks after first one. This recent one was done with mesh as fen said xx I cant pee straight now after 5mths , it comes out like somebody has pinched end of a hose pipe(spray), told Tvto is too tight and needs stretched so going back in for this and a few other things besides xx hope all is ok are you sure it was not just a bit swollen?? just a thought, Iwent for a 3 mile power walk the other day and i was defo worse and swollen down below for 2 days after. hope all works out xx

fengirl1 · 31/03/2012 22:52

Butterball - hope you get sorted or reassured.
14k - Happy is a very wise woman!!! [awe] She has been posting on here for a long time and comes back to sort us all out. Perhaps you could do a search on her name and then, if you need to, on the other people posting to find the older threads?

jackie62 · 31/03/2012 23:43

Hi Butterball, welcome! The original site was called 'anyone had a rectocele...' if you search for rectocele and find this one , about six down? It was started by Flourybaps in May 2009. Instructions for the second one are at the end of that one.
Hello again 14 k! Can you tell me what happened with your hamotoma? I have one at the moment from the TVT removal and it is causing havoc. I am hoping to speak to my consultant on Monday. In the meantime in have found someHelichrythum essential oil which is said to 'dissolve' haemotomas and am lathering it on several times a day. It smells like a mix of myrrh and a bonfire so I am having to explain myself at work...not the usual perfumes used for work!! My husband walked past me today, stopped and said 'something's burning' and he has no sense of smell usually!!
Could someone try to contact Nannasylv by private message? I know it can be done but have no idea how to do it. It is a bit worrying that she has just gone off the radar.
Xxx

surewoman · 31/03/2012 23:46

Hi Butterball - I have the old links posted on my computer, so here they are...

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/general_health/1205782-New-thread-for-those-having-had-posterior-or-anterior-repairs-TVT-rectocele-and-all-the-other-down-below-stitchups/AllOnOnePage

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/general_health/698136-anyone-had-posterior-repair-rectocele-repair/AllOnOnePage

14k - so sorry to hear that something has 'come back'. Do you think it is the anterior or posterior wall that is bulging? Could be an enterocele if it is the back wall as they are common after hysterectomy.. just a thought.

All girls out there - very personal question I know, but how far down did your cystocele bulges get before they were repaired? Mine is now crowning the opening of my fanjo by the end of the day when I am tired, so what grade is this now? 1, 2 or 3??? I want it gone and I want a normal vagina .... boo hoo!!! Very fed up with all of this and my USI is getting worse and worse - leak when I blow my nose, cough, walk down stairs, walk quickly to the car, jump, laugh, sneeze and even when I am doing the washing up AAAAARGH!
I am sure it is because of the cystocele so if I have a TVT what then? My cystocele bulge will still be there, getting bigger and bigger. Advice please! XXX

happy2beme · 01/04/2012 01:52

HI Jackie I messaged Nannasylv but no reply as yet, did this this morning so maybe time yet xx
Sure my cystocele was just about level with my inner labia at the end, if this is any help, originally i was told mine was not bad enough to do. I had postponed my op and by the time i got it 6mths later consultant said it was too bad to leave. I was only meant to get posterior/merina/tvto and woke up with anterior done also xx stage2, stage 3 is when it is past inner labia xx

Ben10NeverAgain · 01/04/2012 07:14

My letter from surgeon to GP preop said minor cystocele and minor/moderate rectocele. Must be grade 1 cystocele and grade 2/3 rectocele. It had got much worse in the week before the op. They were both touching - even when lying down. Blush He said the rectocele was much worse than the cystocele. He was willing to do both of these on the NHS. I just fancied my own room. Grin

fengirl1 · 01/04/2012 08:47

Sure - I'm positive they can test by putting in a ring pessary and seeing if you still have the USI??? (hugs)

Ben10NeverAgain · 01/04/2012 09:34

My letter says that I was too young for a pessary - whatever that means.

The surgeon also said that if I want any more children (is he mad Grin ) that I should have a CS as otherwise whatever he has done would need to be redone.

Hello Rectocele etc. repairs ladies.

I should have officially joined this club some months ago, especially since it was due to these "down under" threads that I self-diagnosed myself with a rectocele. I went to my GP in December and she booked me for a gyne. consultation, where the rectocele was confirmed.

I had my op last Wednesday at Epsom Hosp. and was discharged 48 hours later. I had a spinal without IV sedation, which was an absolutely fascinating experience! I was in pain for the first 36 hrs or so, in fact I cried the first night, but I haven't taken any pain killers since then. (This is NOT because I am the stoical type; I honestly barely feel any discomfort, can sit down fine etc.) I was told that my stitches extend about 5 inches upwards along the back wall of my vagina. My H says I look the same on the outside, i.e. no obvious swelling.

I am trying to rest lying down whenever possible. I had an abdominal hysterectomy a year ago February. About 8 weeks after the hysterectomy I started to leak urine. It transpired after numerous tests, that during the hysterectomy my bladder had been nicked and I had developed a vesico-vaginal fistula. This was repaired during another abdominal approach op by a tissue graft in late September. I had to wear a catheter for a month while my bladder healed. So, I do know something about resting and healing (and taking things a day at a time).

At the moment, I am feeling fortunate but I have my fingers crossed about infections, haemotomas, failures etc. There was a woman about my age (56) in the room next to me who had the same surgery as me on the same morning. When I left she was still in absolute agony and had not been able to walk yet. She told me she had never experienced such pain (and I know from talking to her before-hand that she had other previous medical conditions that were painful).

Thanks to Footle and all the others who have contributed to these threads. The information has been extremely useful to me in preparing for this (not to mention in my self-diagnosis).

Best wishes to all in recovery!

Ben10NeverAgain · 01/04/2012 18:25

Wow esperance You are doing fantastically to be taking no painkillers Shock. My anterior and posterior repair was on Monday and I am taking loads! Just goes to show that everyone is different :)

tazzle · 01/04/2012 19:21

glad you are home ben10 Grin

.. as am I. Was not due home till tomorrow ( or after first BM) but since they had an emergency admission that needed a bed and moved moved me down to day case / acture admissions I fluttered my eyelashes ( and my nursing credentials) and they let me home before BM {grin}. I think my usual home diet has more fibre in it than the hospital one Wink

Op seems to have gone well and I dont hurt much as long as take ibuprofen / paracetamol. My BP and sats went down a bit so I was "amber" post op and had oxygen /drip for a bit longer.............. but once I sat up and got drinking came on leaps and bounds. I was raring to get up and walking around this morning .... well once I got over getting woken at 6am for obs and meds !!!!

looking forward to hearing how you got on fengirl
