This thread is for everyone who wants to stick to their diet, and would like to benefit from public support in doing so.

Rules for participants:

  1. Define your own limits - post them here or keep to yourself, but be clear and specific about which foods are allowed and which ones are not;

  2. Keep your diary - post here on a daily basis what you've eaten, and how this deviates - if it does - from your goals;

  3. Be honest;

  4. 1 month commitment required - which means that even if you have a diet slip, you are still expected to keep posting your daily reports (and hopefully get back on track in the meantime) until at least 1 February;

Feel free to talk about anything health and diet related - especially the difficulty you're facing when trying to change your eating habits - but please be supportive and sensitive to other people's decisions/choices. Negative or judgemental posts about somebody else's ability to keep to their promises strictly not allowed.

Remember - this thread is more about making it happen than talking about it.

Believe in yourself! You're doing this to become a better YOU.

Hi Woolwif - welcome - I like your menu today :) Yum :)

I was substituting chocolate with Nakd cocoa bars (raw cocoa + cashews) until I got used to not having any.

Have other challenges though!

Now, if I ever eat chocolate, I make sure it's quality stuff - organic and no additives etc, so because I don't buy chocolate myself, this narrows down my opportunities to eat chocolate to almost zero!

Glenshee ok, I concede that the excellent skiing is our winters' only redeeming quality! Think I may have actually been born on skis, LOL. However, being as it's -23 right now (in the afternoon sun!) and about to drop quite a lot for the evening, it's not nearly as appealing as it might sound! Grin

Like your plan for tomorrow, Modern!

Wool Your menu today sounds great, but it is your chocolate willpower that is most impressive!

Woolwif · 02/01/2012 22:33

Meant to say, I got the Zumba Wii thing for Christmas and if i don't have abs like the woman on the box by the end of Feb, I want my money back :) Have tried it out a couple of times but the hip band keeps moving about which is a bit annoying. It's not really a substitute for the real thing, but definitely good fun and better than sitting on the sofa with a selection box.

openyerlugholes · 03/01/2012 10:34

Morning!

Square sausage and cheese for brekkiee. Really need to go shopping and get stuff in.

Sinned last night. Had my mum and sis round for dinner. Ended up tucking into biscuits whilst watching The King's Speech Blush

Back to it today. Was ready for a run this morning but the couldn't because of the gales. Will go out this aft when it calms down a bit.

No idea what to have for lunch. Chicken curry for dinner probably.

liveinazoo · 03/01/2012 16:40

modernlifeishubris · 03/01/2012 18:21

Today can be summed up as:

Must Try Harder.

Granola and yoghurt for breakfast.

Clementine and chocolate digestive for snack

Soup and bread (and 2 mini mince pies)

Ginger cake and 3 Matchmakers for snack

Bean burger in wholemeal bap for dinner.

Have now got some healthier snacks in (and thrown the cake in the bin, better in there than in me!)

openyerlugholes I have just got around to watching the Kings Speech, it was surprisingly enjoyable, wasn't it.

Right, this evening I will drink lots of water and look at recipes in Rose Elliot's Low GI Vegetarian cookbook for inspiration.

modernlifeishubris · 03/01/2012 18:24

MamaGeekChic, how are you not starving?

I'm not calorie counting because I find it do depressing.

I make good choices all day, feel hungry, calculate calories and discover I have eaten about 1600.

Maybe I have a saggy stomach on inside too and needs more to fill it ;)

MamaGeekChic · 03/01/2012 18:33

I am a bit hungry but I have not got much food in just now so not many good choices in the house... The weather conspired against me today! Back to work tomorrow which will be a challenge... I tend to use food as a reward for doing tasks I don't like eg make that difficult phone call you've been dreading and you can have tea and a biscuit type stuff... Just me?! As well as the usual costa temptations :)

NCIS · 03/01/2012 19:00

Today:-
Tea and two slices of buttered toast
4 oatcake type biscuits
Mango,raspberries and muller light yoghurt
having homemade curry tonight from Good Housekeeping recipe which is 369 calories per portion plus rice.
Had about 5 cups of tea/coffee with semi skimmed milk and no sugar.

WhatstheScenario · 03/01/2012 19:01

I am starting tomorrow after a bit of a winetastic first few days of 2012.

Tomorrow's food will be:

Breakfast: porridge with blueberries & honey
Lunch: Veggie omelette
Dinner: Veggie stir fry and noodles

Will report back Grin

Tillyscoutsmum · 03/01/2012 19:22

Day 2 and I seem to have already reverted back to eating crap grazing all day.

I am about to eat chilli but I will be sensible with portion size and skip the usual tonne of cheese/sour cream/tortilla chips

I've had today 1 banana, 1 biscotti, a couple of bites of flapjack, some fruit salad, a small slice of ham and half a slice of toast with butter. 2 cups of coffee, 1 cup of tea and about 5 glasses of water.

Hmmmm - tomorrow is back to the usual school run etc. so it should be easier to eat a proper breakfast and lunch instead of just picking at the dc's stuff.

liveinazoo · 03/01/2012 20:08

mama food rewards is the norm here too
other than my indescration with the iced gems i posted earlier, not too bad
breakfast;rice krispies and sun seeds.skim milk

plan to have 2 digestives when i get off here and glass milk.managed 650mls water today,so thats an improvement.waking up with more get up and go and i think its not having the sugar binges before bed thats helping.keep going everyone.see you all tomorrow!

MegBusset · 03/01/2012 20:29

Breakfast: shredded wheat w/rice milk
Lunch: cheese and salad roll, slim-a-soup
Dinner: veggie stir fry with noodles
Snacks: satsuma, grapes, banana smoothie

I find that posting here straight after dinner helps stop late-night snacking, as I don't want to be guiltily adding more stuff later!

Glenshee · 03/01/2012 20:30

Thanks everyone for posting - please keep going even if you're not feeling you're doing particularly well right now! There's always hope for a better tomorrow!

I'm not all that disciplined myself today either. Overall since the start of the thread I managed to stick to some important points, but not the others. I've not had a single machine/purchased coffee since the start of the thread (my weak spot) - only 'real' coffee at home, and no more than once a day. This is an improvement, although I'm still aiming at no coffee whatsoever. I have discovered that COSTA cafes sell excellent herbal teas :) I've not eaten past 9pm (except at 10pm on NYE), and can already feel how much more pleasant a morning can be. I've managed to avoid sweet stuff, mostly, and that's fab. What doesn't go so well for me - so far - is avoiding bread and drinking enough water...

Today's report:

B - quinoa salad, black tea (no milk, no sugar)
snack - 2 sticks of celery
L - split peas casserole (very filling!)
snack - 1 apple
T - pumpkin soup, homemade pizza with mushrooms, two pieces of sweet bread loaf (bad for me but so so tasty)

3 cups of green tea
5 glasses of water

OP posts:
Glenshee · 03/01/2012 20:32

MegBusset - same here - I also struggled with very late snacks and cups of tea, and mornings are so much better now when you don't have to RUN to the toilet :)

I bet late snacks have a huge negative impact on your sleep.

WhatstheScenario - what is a veggie omelette? Just eggs and nothing else?

OP posts:
vanfurgston · 03/01/2012 20:34

Can I join plz
My goals are
To avoid second helpings
No cakes/chocolates/biscuits
Have 7 cups of water a day
Reduce portion sizes

Glenshee · 03/01/2012 20:40

MamaGeekChic - interesting to read your reports with calories counted. I never counted myself as I'm actually underweight, but find it insightful (things like sauce add quite a lot!!)

There's hardly any raw veg in your reports? I would find it very hard to be efficient at work without raw veg. Not that I like them all that much, but just know that if I don't eat enough raw veg I will feel tired and irritable.

OP posts:
Glenshee · 03/01/2012 20:42

Hi vanfurgston - welcome! You can even start today by adding more peer pressure on other participants Grin

I'm looking forward to your first report tomorrow! Thanks

Evening all...here's my day 2 report...I'm back to work tomorrow so have tried to have a super low carb day to put me in the right frame of mind to resist all the leftover Christmas chocolates I know everyone will bring in.

Breakfast: natural yoghurt with lemon juice and a sprinkle of sweetner
Lunch: ham, eggs and cottage cheese
Dinner: chicken with lemon, garlic and black pepper, natural yoghurt
Snacks: some ham and a couple of low fat Actimels
Drinks: 2 cups of tea, can of diet coke, 3 glasses of water - not enough, must try harder.

So, very healthy but very boring. Veg and fruit back in abundance tomorrow. Oh, and I also decided to use my cross-trainer actually as I cross-trainer rather than a clothes hanger...and very nearly enjoyed it :)

gomummygo · 03/01/2012 22:54

Wow some of these reports are impressive, don't know how you aren't ravenous!

Not a great report here -

Last night (but before cutoff!): 1/4 grilled pita w/ cottage cheese, chamomile tea
Breakfast: homemade granola, half an apple, jasmine tea
Snack (OH DEAR): small mochaccino when out shopping Blush
Lunch: small portion of leftover chili with one tiny slice of grilled panini. Made my chili really spicy to make myself drink even more water!
Dinner: Pork schnitzel, grilled veggies, roasted potatoes, few bites of coleslaw from DH's plate

Lots of walking and dancing with DS.
