This thread is for everyone who wants to stick to their diet, and would like to benefit from public support in doing so.

Rules for participants:

  1. Define your own limits - post them here or keep to yourself, but be clear and specific about which foods are allowed and which ones are not;

  2. Keep your diary - post here on a daily basis what you've eaten, and how this deviates - if it does - from your goals;

  3. Be honest;

  4. 1 month commitment required - which means that even if you have a diet slip, you are still expected to keep posting your daily reports (and hopefully get back on track in the meantime) until at least 1 February;

Feel free to talk about anything health and diet related - especially the difficulty you're facing when trying to change your eating habits - but please be supportive and sensitive to other people's decisions/choices. Negative or judgemental posts about somebody else's ability to keep to their promises strictly not allowed.

Remember - this thread is more about making it happen than talking about it.

Believe in yourself! You're doing this to become a better YOU.

Hi all - great to see so many people on here today!

I've been on holiday (skiing) but it didn't go as well as we hoped :( . DD got very poorly the day before the flight (very rare for her!), then improved just before departure so we did go, and then both me and DH got poorly too on the way. It was all one big struggle for the first couple of days :( DH and DD didn't ski at all, DS was well throughout, wondering why we're all so miserable, and I skiied with DS but only started to enjoy it towards the end of the holiday.

On return we found out that it snows here in the UK too, and our heating is broken / flat pretty much frozen - aaargh! I felt very very tired all of this week and was going to bed early every day religiously...

Dieting wasn't priority during these two weeks. But I've been watching the thread and would like to thank you all who kept posting, this thread remains important for me as it helps me to remember about my dieting goals.

I really want - and need - to get back on track from next week onwards. So will be here. I wasn't planning to continue beyond January initially, but now feel that it would help me if I do, because I slipped so much recently, and wouldn't like to leave it as it is now.

:( Glenshee sounds like you've had quite a time. Hope you are all feeling better now (and warm!).

Good strategy on the weigh in Tilly, sounds like you need a break this weekend! Hope your DCs are recovered soon.

Glenshee · 11/02/2012 20:31

Thank you gomummygo - I do feel well now, and warm (finally!) but dieting is - well, hopefully was - totally out of the window! Confused

Today's not been great but far far better than previous week - I have finally found energy to at least make an effort!

Breakfast - real coffee and a pasty with raisins
Lunch - Borscht, pitta bread
Tea - pork steak, warm salad (avocado and mushrooms)

Throughout the day:
4 coconut ladoos (not really sweet)
half a piece of chocolate cake (kids leftover)
4 cups of tea with milk, and 2 cups of barley coffee
3 glasses of water
4 apples

No food or drink past cut-off time!

OP posts:
gomummygo · 11/02/2012 22:51

:)

Today not great:

At least six cups of coffee since 4am Blush
Brunch - Crepe w/ proscioutto, asparagus, feta & balsamic
mid-afternoon - tiny bowl of caesar salad
Dinner - Roast lemon chicken with all the trimmings, but v. small portions of everything

Operating on less than 3 hours of sleep today. These are the days I find the hardest to stay on the wagon. Does anyone else feel so hungry when really tired? I would welcome any suggestions for how to manage it. I also find that I really crave carbs when feeling exhausted.

Also went back to Level 1 on Shred and still struggled to get through it, just exhausted.

Glenshee · 11/02/2012 23:10

The solution to tiredness is sleep and rest surely Grin

I'm being mean, I know, as it's not an option with young kids most of the time... but still it's worth remembering that rest, not food, is what you really need. TV or internet in the background instead of a cup of coffee perhaps, or a nap if you can fit it in?

I remember a day when DS was 3 y.old and DD was a baby, and I was on the edge because of sleep deprivation. Baby fell asleep at midday and I asked the three year old to play by himself and please please please not wake mummy up because she needs rest. In 15 minutes or so I felt the little hands hugging my shoulders and was mentally preparing to get up and go without being unfairly grumpy, but all that happened was 'Mommy I love you very much'... and then my 3 y.old son went off back to the living room to play all by himself until I got up in an hour...

Sweet :)

Grin Thanks glenshee!

Aww, how lovely of your DS. :)

Mine (also 3) has recently decided that 4am is a reasonable time to start the day and cannot be convinced otherwise. Happening every two or three days. He is not tired, has not napped in about two years, and usually goes to bed around 9pm.

DH has had the dreaded man-cold, followed by a brutal flu, which seems to strike him worst between 11pm and 2am, so have been up with him quite a bit.

You're so right that rest, not food, is what I really need. I just find cravings SO strong when I'm running on empty, iykwim. Just need to get back into routine.

Glenshee · 12/02/2012 23:09

gomummygo - I know, I'm the same :( I guess when we're depriving our bodies of rest, it desperately tries to get energy from other sources (food)...

4am start is awful! My DS was, and is, an early bird who was getting up at 5am consistently until he was 3 years old, and it was difficult. But 4am is really edging on... erhm... impossible to tolerate Confused :(

Hope it's just a stage!

Oh dear, this thread dropped out of my Threads I'm On list, which means both I myself and others have gone quiet!

I won't bother to update every day that I've missed, but key points:
Weigh in today, I have lost another 2 lb!

Valentines Day was a bit of a damp squib due to DS2 being ill in the course of Monday night, so that I was knackered so we got a Chinese takeaway. But I had no starters, 1/2 a rice and kung po king prawns.

Wednesday - had a work do at lunch, tried hard to go easy on the buffet.

This morning: went to the pool and swam 10 lengths.

This weekend we are going to stay with my in-laws, so that will probably mean over-indulgence, hope I don't undo my good work!

Glenshee · 17/02/2012 13:43

welcome back fluffyanimal :)
great to hear you've been good ;)

are we still running this thread?
i had a bad bout depression and whilst im in progress pulling round my eating habits are erratic and shocking
if anyones still posting i will haul self back onto the wagon
hope you all ok

gomummygo · 21/02/2012 22:29

Sorry to hear that things are tough at the moment. Hope you've got some support. Feel free to pm me anytime if you just need to vent or whatever.

I've not been posting for a bit, DS apparently no longer believes in sleep and I have been a zombie. My eating habits have been atrocious, but things are looking up since the weekend, so hopefully his sleep is sorted and I can get back to some degree of normality.

Today has been:
B - Eggs benedict Blush
L - Carrot sticks & hummus
D - Crispy Pork, toasted ciabatta with roasted peppers & garlic sauteed spinach

But if I had to confess the whole 24 hours, there was also a double-baked stuffed potato in the wee hours, cheese and crackers late last night, and far too much coffee to list.

liveinazoo · 22/02/2012 09:47

whats it like weatherwise?we having glorious sunshine and 16oc!Shock

gomummygo · 23/02/2012 17:02

WOW, and Envy @ +16!!!

Gardening already? I am an obsessive gardener but still covered in feet of snow. Can't wait to get the laundry on the line either. Getting tired of winter already.

Here it is warmer than usual, but still about -10. This has been a very strange year weather wise for us and we're very grateful for it. We're still waiting for the other shoe to fall though, March is usually rather brutal.

Glenshee · 29/02/2012 13:04

My diet is currently not so good, but I am making another effort to get back to where I was in January! I'm really pleased we went through the whole of January together, - this experience gave me the confidence to know that 'I can', and also some useful habits/routine adjustments. I am now taking raw veg to work for the morning snack (carrots or celery) most days, and although initially in January it was a struggle, and I did it because I 'had to', I grew to love the idea. I like the taste of barley 'coffee' and discovered where to buy it from locally, so my plan to give up on real coffee looks more like a possibility. I eat loads more fresh veg at lunch. I have stopped eating and drinking tea late in the evening, and although I did slip with this too recently, January memories of nice mornings full of energy are unforgettable, and I'm on my way back! I drink more water, although still not enough.

The diet didn't improve my skin problems significantly, although I did see that chocolate, coffee, tea and bread (high in histamine foods) make the condition worse. I am now suspecting that the skin condition is copper allergy/intoxication, and went to the doctors yesterday to remove my copper coil (which was nearly at the end of its useful life anyway). Will also do a test for copper allergy soon. I tested for food allergies before but they all came back negative.

I like this thread, and happy to continue the discussion, although I won't be posting regular daily reports anymore as it's a bit of a chore.
