This thread is for everyone who wants to stick to their diet, and would like to benefit from public support in doing so.

Rules for participants:

  1. Define your own limits - post them here or keep to yourself, but be clear and specific about which foods are allowed and which ones are not;

  2. Keep your diary - post here on a daily basis what you've eaten, and how this deviates - if it does - from your goals;

  3. Be honest;

  4. 1 month commitment required - which means that even if you have a diet slip, you are still expected to keep posting your daily reports (and hopefully get back on track in the meantime) until at least 1 February;

Feel free to talk about anything health and diet related - especially the difficulty you're facing when trying to change your eating habits - but please be supportive and sensitive to other people's decisions/choices. Negative or judgemental posts about somebody else's ability to keep to their promises strictly not allowed.

Remember - this thread is more about making it happen than talking about it.

Believe in yourself! You're doing this to become a better YOU.

I had to give up caffeine about a year ago as I kept getting migraines :( At least that's one less temptation I have to worry about!

gomummygo · 29/12/2011 22:37

May I join please?

My main goals are:
-cut down on massive amounts of pasta, potatoes and breads
-stop eating after 10pm (tend to have equivalent of a full meal around 11!)
-avoid cheesecake...glorious, wonderful cheesecake...

Glenshee · 29/12/2011 23:21

gomummygo - come on in, sit down, can I offer you a .... glass of water? :o

gomummygo · 30/12/2011 14:47

Grin Thanks, Glenshee

Didn't eat after 10 last night, but did eat at 9:30! Blush Admittedly ate less though, as I wasn't quite as starving as I would have been later, iykwim.

Glenshee · 30/12/2011 15:09

Well done gomummygo ? that?s an improvement!

I love to have a snack once kids go to bed, it feels so comforting and relaxing, but then this snack tends to go on and on and on.... Blush It becomes 2 or 3 cups of tea, plus biscuits and whatnot :( ... But since the start of the thread I?ve managed to avoid it - I find that reporting to this thread helps a lot ? I write my post and then sort of think that I don?t want to come back to this place in a short while to add that I?ve eaten something else, the same day!

I'm really struggling at the moment as on nights. Last night I just had fruit and fat free yoghurt but then came home and had 2 slices of cheese on toast, one slice of fruit cake, toast and pate and two plums.
Will have fruit and yoghurt again tonight but find everything is upside down when on nights. Too knackered to do any excercise but my job is fairly physical so hope that counts.
Has anyone any tips on dieting on shift work, our meal break is only thirty minutes.

Glenshee · 30/12/2011 20:05

Report:

Breakfast: puffed rice with raisins, full-fat milk, and hemp protein powder

Lunch: Chicken with seasoning, potato wedges, raw veg salad (cucumber, celery, lettuce)

Tea: beetroot veg soup, veg lasagne with mushrooms

Dessert: baked apple, and 1 bun (very minimally sweet and home baked - counting this as acceptable but edging on unnecessary)

Vitamin C and Magnesium tablets.

4 cups of green tea
5 glasses of water

Note: try drinking more water in the first half of the day.

Thanks Glenshee. I know what I need to do, just need to do it.

I am 5 ft 1" and weigh between 70 and 73kg. seriously, I fluctuate that much over the course of the month. Have just been diagnosed as perimenopausal with hormone imbalance. Start pills next cycle so dont know how that will affect weight/appetite.

Anyway, today I have eaten:
Breakfast - Hot Cross Bun with Butter & cup of tea with milk.
lunch - cheese and ham toastie with slices of cucumber and grapes, and 1/2 pack crisps.
Dinner - Dominos pizza Blush

Lots of cups of tea in between.

We have guests and we are trying to accomodate them so it could be tricky the next few weeks however I have added fruit where I wouldnt normally eat it and had only 1/2 pack crisps.

I hate cereal so can anyone suggest nice/healthy breakfast. Currently I tend to have hot cross bun, raisin bread, toast with marmalade. Can you tell I have a sweet tooth?

ameliagrey · 30/12/2011 22:22

I've had an okay day but not brill.

Breccie- 2 scrambled eggs and 1 piece gluten free toast.

was not hungry for ages so had
home made soup at 2pm- carrots, sweet pots, lentils.

Late Afternoon- nibbled on 3 oat cakes with smear of jam.
Also nibbled small piece ( tiny) of Xmas cake, a few nuts and 1 choc.

( feel guilty)

Dinner
a large salad with home made s weet potato chunky chips- only half a potato and done in oven with smear olive oil
lettuce, watercress, yellow pepper, beetroot and king prawns .

apple.

plenty of water- it's all I drink along with herbal tea- about 6-7 mugs over the day.

ameliagrey · 30/12/2011 22:28

Eustacia- trying to be helpful here- your menu today is very high in saturated fat and carbs.

For breccie can you eat eggs? I swear by an egg every day - boiled or poached- and sometimes 2 scrambled if lunch is going to be delayed.

or what about yoghurt ( plain) and a banana or blueberries?

Or- small portion baked beans on 1 slice toast?

ameliagrey · 30/12/2011 22:29

oh and I took no exercise outside today Blush so at 5pm i forced myself to do 20 half press ups, side and front plank, and 20 squats.

MegBusset · 30/12/2011 23:11

I walked round the sales for an hour today if that counts as exercise (the debit card got some exercise too!)

Bearcat · 31/12/2011 12:40

Had got down to 10st 6lbs this year from 13st 5lbs 2 years ago. Am 5ft 7.
Today I am 10 st 13lbs so want to lose 7lbs ideally.
Going out tonight, so will start tomorrow.
Am giving up alcohol for January ( have done this for a few years now) so that will help
Porridge sounds good for breakfast.
Will eat more salad, less bread / toast. More fruit again.
Do go to gym 4 times a week, just need to get back on track really.
I know what I have to do!

gomummygo · 31/12/2011 22:38

Today started out well... Poached egg, flax toast, a few grape tomatoes and herbal tea for brekkie, spinach, ham and feta quiche for lunch with a handful of blueberries and yoghurt.

Had a few olives and ONE (!) piece of cheese on a cracker in the afternoon with tea. Lots of tea. Copious amounts of tea actually.

Starving by dinner, not good. DH requested dauphinoise potatoes with dinner. Also not good. HAD to have some. Blush

Now though, NYE, appetizers and wine are calling out to me...I fear tomorrow's report!

MegBusset · 31/12/2011 23:16

Breakfast: porridge w/rice milk and cinnamon
Lunch: tuna mayo (low fat) sandwich
Dinner: veg curry (home made so not too unhealthy) w/rice and naan

Morning! Everyone is getting on so well Smile

Went out for a run this morning and thoroughly enjoyed it. Very tempted to start my diet today but am out at my sis for dinner and have no idea what she is making. It definitely won't be low carb though!

So will be starting in earnest tomorrow. Feel really ready to get going. Sick of eating crap and need to get off the wine. Have a stone to lose, possibly a little bit more. Getting back to running again will definitely help motivate me to eat better - they go hand in hand for me.

Have a good day everyone and will see you tomorrow in earnest.

MegBusset · 01/01/2012 15:13

Well done on the running, I've got a dicky knee so can't do anything high-impact :(

Did take the DC for a 90-min stomp round the park this morning though.

EustaciaVye · 01/01/2012 16:52

I have an upset tum today so have had:
hot cross bun for breakfast(last one in pack so wont buy any more)

can anyone explain why i am so hungry allday if i eat breakfast?

openyerlugholes · 01/01/2012 21:17

Live, try having a protein breakfast rather than cereal. It will see you right through to lunchtime. Or porridge - anything low GI that won't mess with your blood sugar levels.

Will be starting tomorrow. Am more than ready to get back to healthy eating!
