This thread is for everyone who wants to stick to their diet, and would like to benefit from public support in doing so.

Rules for participants:

  1. Define your own limits - post them here or keep to yourself, but be clear and specific about which foods are allowed and which ones are not;

  2. Keep your diary - post here on a daily basis what you've eaten, and how this deviates - if it does - from your goals;

  3. Be honest;

  4. 1 month commitment required - which means that even if you have a diet slip, you are still expected to keep posting your daily reports (and hopefully get back on track in the meantime) until at least 1 February;

Feel free to talk about anything health and diet related - especially the difficulty you're facing when trying to change your eating habits - but please be supportive and sensitive to other people's decisions/choices. Negative or judgemental posts about somebody else's ability to keep to their promises strictly not allowed.

Remember - this thread is more about making it happen than talking about it.

Believe in yourself! You're doing this to become a better YOU.

Does anyone have any ideas to curb feeling so hungry between 10-11pm-ish?

Glenshee · 01/01/2012 23:54

Went to a party yesterday, and visiting friends today, so these weren't great days in terms of my dieting.

.....so - my last 2 days reports:

31/12:

Breakfast: lasagne

Lunch: japanese soup with tofu, quinoa veg salad

Party food: russian salad (with mayonaise - not good), liver salad (with mayonaise - not good), 1 piece of not very sweet homemade cake, 3 buns

Tea: rice, chicken, sprouts

Dessert: 1 slice christmas pudding with cream (not good)

5 glasses of water
2 cups of green tea

Last eating at 10pm - not too bad for a New Years Eve!

01/01:

Breakfast: puffed rice, milk, hemp protein powder

Lunch: veg lasagne with rice, sweetcorn and cheese (cheese - not good)

Tea: chicken, sprouts

Dessert: christmas pudding with cream (not good)

4 cups of black tea (not good)
2 glasses of water (not enough!)

gomummygo - did you say snoooow????!!! - where are you?

Hunger at 10:30 - I feel that raw carrots snack (unattractive as it sounds) - helps a lot. I don't feel hungry at this time every day, but some days it's just plain awful - and I have difficulty concentrating unless I have something between breakfast and lunch. :(

liveinazoo - fruit smoothie for lunch is a fab idea! I'm gonna steal that, as I get so bored with my breakfast choices... (it's either puffed rice or omelette most days for me).

OP posts:
Glenshee · 02/01/2012 00:06

not for lunch, for breakfast obviously!

Yes Glensee, I'm in Canada. And don't be envious! We'll have another four months of this miserable stuff, I'd be happy to post you some in a cooler, LOL!

I shall try the carrot sticks tonight! Maybe with a tiny bit of hummus or something? I find it really tough to get to sleep when I feel hungry.

Lasagne for breakfast not something I'd ever thought of but probably a big energy boost.

openyerlugholes · 02/01/2012 10:39

Morning! Right I am here full time now.

Can't post my full menu yet as not sure what I am having for dinner. Having my mum over and making her pasta, which I can't have. Going to pop out to the shops to get something low carb in for me.

Weighed myself this morning. Am back up to 10.7 waaaah!!! Was 9.12 before the holidays. How is that even possible? Anyway, no point moaning about it, just need to get back on track.

BF 3 boiled eggs chopped with butter and bacon.

1 glass water

2 cups coffee (need to cut down on the coffee actually)

gomummy I have relatives in canada. Do you know them? . Don't envy you all that snow. Our council can't cope with 4cm Hmm

danceswithyarn · 02/01/2012 10:50

Me too! Home from parents after Christmas so starting today.

Aims: 10lb loss in January, then aim for 1/2 stone per month. I have about 4 stone to lose in total, but would be happy with 3.

Big family wedding in July, or maybe october (blooming teachers - just wish they'd book it) and best mate from uni getting hitched in may, so they're pretty big targets.

I've put in for a 10km run in may too...

Plan is straight calorie counting (it worked on the last 4st) and gym/swimming/aqua/maybe even zumba

Tillyscoutsmum · 02/01/2012 10:58

Good morning Grin

I have been lurking on the thread but haven't posted because I have been clearing the house of bad things before starting today. My weigh in this morning was quite depressing. I am 12 stone 6ozs. I would like to lose a stone by the end of March and get down to 10stone 12oz by end of May.

Will be back later today to do food diary

openyerlugholes · 02/01/2012 11:25

dances am impressed with your plan to run 10k. I was a serious runner until I got bursitis in my hip about 4 years ago. Have started C25K this week.

tilly we have managed to clear all the junk and booze too Grin. That may or may not be the cause of my rapid weight gain...

danceswithyarn · 02/01/2012 12:16

Open It was only when I got tendonitis in the run up to it last year that the weight started piling on. I'm hoping I'll get the fitness back reasonably quickly once I get into it!

openyerlugholes · 02/01/2012 13:14

Am sure you will! This is the year we are all going to be super fit. Can feel it in my ancient bones.

BF - 2 eggs, bacon

L - sausage and yet more bacon (using up what's in the fridge)

D - roast chicken and masses of veg

Lots of water.

MamaGeekChic · 02/01/2012 15:54

Looks like everyone has been doing well so far!

I weighed in this morning... 12st 7lbs, the same weight as I was this time last year- at 5 months pregnant! Yuck!

I'll post this evening with today's food intake, no exercise so far but I've done 2hrs of floor scrubbing, bathroom cleaning and hoovering so not too bad I guess... Hoping my shred DVD arrives tomorrow!

Tillyscoutsmum · 02/01/2012 17:42

Day 1 report

Breakfast: Skimmed milk latte and a banana (I am really bad at eating breakfast)

Lunch - Ham & Tomato sandwich

Dinner - Shepherds pie (homemade so lots of veg, v. lean meat, smallish portion with mostly meat)

2 cups of coffee
7 glasses of water (so far)

I need to sort out exercise. I am running around after a very active toddler all day and will be starting the school run again on Wednesday (which will mean walking just over 3 miles per day). I can't decide whether to order the shred dvd or whether to order Zumba for the Wii. Any recommendations ?

MamaGeekChic · 02/01/2012 19:20

Day 1 food diary:

Breakfast- tea with sweetener, 4 oatcakes with no-added sugar jam. 165cals (I really struggle with brekkie, all I ever fancy is tea and maybe a choccie biscuit)

Dinner- skinless roast chicken breast 170cals potato 100cals bake at home yorkie 60cals roast veg and gravy 100cals

Open I have several friends here from the UK, they must be your rellies? Grin

Today's damage:

Last night: A handful of olives right before cutoff time (10pm) and a small glass of white wine
Breakfast: Grilled whole wheat pita w/ asiago, scrambled eggs, tomato juice
Lunch: Homemade pizza, whole wheat crust, lots of veggies, a little pepperoni, way too much cheese
Dinner (still cooking) will be: Chili, small baked potato with a little sour cream and chives (double-stuffed for everyone else ), grilled baguette slices with bruschetta. I am absolutely ravenous though.

Very long walk pulling DS (in sleigh). Shamefully out of breath for far too long afterwards.

MegBusset · 02/01/2012 20:27

Today's food:
Breakfast: porridge w/rice milk & cinnamon
Lunch: mushroom & tomato risotto (pub lunch so it was bigger than normal, but at least I resisted pudding!)
Dinner: spicy veggie burger in w/meal bap, oven chips, salad
Snacks: grapes, satsuma
Drinks: decaf coffee/fruit tea/water/diet coke. No wine!

Glenshee · 02/01/2012 21:15

gomummygo - still envious, sorry :) Am addicted to skiing and winter hols. Dreaming of snow and slopes all the time, and even 4cm of snow that we get here in the UK on a single random winter day gets me hyper :)

MegBusset - saying no to pudding in a pub? Hmm Unheard of! Wink Well done.

Great to see so much activity here, and I appreciate all the effort that goes into......... daily posting Grin

gomummygo - lasagne for breakfast is not something I'd ever consider either, but it was a leftover, and a very good-looking last piece :)

Hello, can I join?

After being away for Christmas and New Year, I haven't been able to prepare eat all the junk in the house and so my resolution isn't officially beginning until the supermarket delivery arrives on Tues pm.

I have a habit of starting, being very rigid, failing miserably, ignoring weight for 6 months. So...

This time, I am aiming for health rather than deprivation and a commitment, good or bad outcomes included. So this thread would suit me down to the ground.

Have made some granola today, so will eat tomorrow with last yoghurt in fridge. Soup and two slices of bread for lunch. Tearing off Sainsburys deliveryman's arm for dinner :)

Woolwif · 02/01/2012 21:48

Oooh, can I join too? Am normally pretty healthy, apart from needing a daily chocolate fix, however the combination of a bit of extra work stress and Christmas has meant things have gone awry and I find myself 10lbs heavier in January than I was in October. Even before finding this thread, I'd decided to get a grip and lose half a stone by mid Feb, drink much more water, do more exercise and cut down on the KitKats, so would be great to have some extra encouragement/peer pressure.

So, today I had:

Breakfast: 2 eggs and some tomatoes
Lunch: chicken and couscous salad (sounds healthy but was at Nandos so maybe not)
Dinner: Roasted salmon, lemon and ginger with an egg and cottage cheese.

Also managed not to eat chocolate when rest of family demolished a selection pack, nearly killed me but proves there is some willpower there after all...

Glenshee · 02/01/2012 21:57

Hi modernlifeishubris and welcome :)

I am also guilty of overcommitting and then giving up after the first hitch. It's hard to keep going after a failure..... :(

Still I think all those previous efforts changed my habits somewhat, so let's hope that following those previous attempts we're now better prepared for the longer-term challenge :)
