This thread is for everyone who wants to stick to their diet, and would like to benefit from public support in doing so.

Rules for participants:

  1. Define your own limits - post them here or keep to yourself, but be clear and specific about which foods are allowed and which ones are not;

  2. Keep your diary - post here on a daily basis what you've eaten, and how this deviates - if it does - from your goals;

  3. Be honest;

  4. 1 month commitment required - which means that even if you have a diet slip, you are still expected to keep posting your daily reports (and hopefully get back on track in the meantime) until at least 1 February;

Feel free to talk about anything health and diet related - especially the difficulty you're facing when trying to change your eating habits - but please be supportive and sensitive to other people's decisions/choices. Negative or judgemental posts about somebody else's ability to keep to their promises strictly not allowed.

Remember - this thread is more about making it happen than talking about it.

Believe in yourself! You're doing this to become a better YOU.

I have fought through the pain and avoided the chocolate Grin Wink. The ridiculous thing is that I'm not really that into to chocolate (I'm more of a chips and cheese fiend Grin). I've never been the sort to scoff bars of it at once but I honestly felt like I could have eaten 3 or 4 bars of the stuff today. I think I might be pre menstrual.

Anyway, today's food diary

Brekkie - Smoothie and half slice of toast
Lunch - Bowl of Chicken Mulligatawny soup
Tea - Chunky chilli and rice

I'm going to bed to avoid the chocolate monster...

tostaky · 11/01/2012 22:11

I am starving now but can't eat it's far to late, so off to sleep for me.

Well done everyone it alls seems to be going well.

Glenshee · 11/01/2012 23:08

I have forgotten to mention 2 bananas in my report. Just want to add this for the sake of accuracy. (I really want to be accurate so that I can later look back at this food diary and try to understand which foods trigger bad reactions).

OP posts:
Glenshee · 11/01/2012 23:20

liveinazoo - I struggle with drinking enough water too - more so than I thought before I started. 8 glasses is a lot!!! Blush

I think it goes hand in hand with reducing the number of teas and coffees. I think that if I'd replace every cup of tea with 2 glasses of water than I would have no trouble getting the 8 glasses water a day! And even every other hot drink replaced would bring me very close!

Didn't get on MN yesterday, so 2 days report:

Tuesday:
B - Oatibix, skimmed milk, 1tsp sugar
L - Fresh tomato soup, vegan salad, fresh fruit smoothie
D - 2 pittas with small portion of chargrilled chilli lamb, houmous, tzatziki, salad. Fat free yogurt.
Snack: Digestive biscuit.

Wednesday:
B - as above
L - vegan salad, banana
D - salmon and spinach fish cake, small portion oven chips, carrots. Skinny Cow ice cream.
Snack: Digestive biscuit.

Tomorrow I weigh myself for the first time, there had better be a result or I shall be mighty hacked off!

Tillyscoutsmum · 12/01/2012 12:03

Ooh - Good Luck for the weigh in fluffyanimal

livinazoo - Any chance of posting a recipe for your carrot and almond soup please ? Sounds yum.

With the drinking water thing - I fill up an old 2 litre mineral water bottle with tap water every morning and put it in the fridge. My mission for the day is to empty it. The first couple of days resulted with me gulping 3-4 glasses of it just before bed (not recommended - I was up most of the night weeing Blush). Now, I try to make sure I have a glass first thing, one after the school run, one mid morning, one with lunch, one mid afternoon, one before dc's go to bed, one with dinner and usual one after dinner. Occasionally, I put a bit of sugar free cordial/squash in a couple of them, to make them more interesting.

gomummygo · 12/01/2012 14:33

Sorry I can't find the thread again Glenshee! It was started by ApocalypseCheese who had just done it for the first time and was collapsed in front of a fan, then a lot of other posters commented on how brutal the shred was! LOL that I am nervous about a DVD arriving! Grin

Yesterday's report:

B - Poached egg, flax toast, small tomato juice
L - Chicken salad (v. heavy on the veg) on half of a ww english muffin, marinated grilled veg
D - Mushroom risotto, pork tenderloin w/ roasted peppers

Tillyscoutsmum · 12/01/2012 16:46

vanfurgston · 12/01/2012 20:19

Hi everyone hope u r having a good day. I started Pilates today after a long long break. Am full of energy and not feeling it yet.

Day 7

Breakfast- egg white omelette, tea, banana
Lunch- spaghetti vegetable stir fry (2 cups)
Dinner- carrot sticks, green tea

No snacks today

Tillyscoutsmum · 12/01/2012 20:59

vanfurgston - carrot sticks for Dinner. Wow !!

I've not had a bad day. I've met a friend for coffee and managed to avoid eating any of the delicious cakes on offer. I also visited another friend this afternoon and didn't touch any of the homemade biscuits on offer. So, today, I've had:-

Brekkie - Smoothie
Mid morning - Cappucino
Lunch - 4 Ryvita and cottage cheese with tomato salad
Dinner - Veg Omelette and Beans

Woolwif · 12/01/2012 22:03

Couple of days to update for me too.

Yesterday bfast: grapenuts, low fat actimel and raisins
Lunch: chicken salad sandwich, poached fruit (so far so good)
Dinner: scallops, steak sandwich, chips (oops, it's going slightly wrong)
Drinks: here's where it all goes totally downhill 3 glasses of wine, 4 mojitos and a G&T ( with slimline tonic, like that will make a difference :) )

That really doesn't sound good, does it?! No excuse apart from was in a very lovely hotel with some very lovely friends and was over quite a long time period. Drinking like that is a very rare occurrence, but it was a lot of fun.

Today, back on straight and narrow. One chicken salad sandwich, one bowl of steamed veg with tomato and garlic sauce, one bag of snackajack rice cakes and lots and lots of water Blush. Will weigh myself tomorrow but think I've probably mucked it up for this week. Never mind, it was worth it.

vanfurgston · 12/01/2012 22:23

Tillyscoutmum I have upped my water intake about 7-8 hrs and that fills me up. I also make sure to eat proteins for breakfast so that ds wonders for my apetite the only way I have resisted sweets and cakes is by not having any arnd so props to u for not having any on offer.

I am loving this thread [hugs all arnd]

vanfurgston · 12/01/2012 22:24

Sorry 7-8 glasses not hrs

Glenshee · 12/01/2012 22:56

Today's report:

L - chips, raw veg salad, tuna, half a tiny ham sandwich (DD's leftover from yesterday)
snack - 2 oriental pears, half a banana, half an apple
T - sautéed veg
late evening - tea, homemade pastry

8 glasses of water (yay!)

Feel very down for no good reason, am going to bed now in hope for a better tomorrow. Confused

cheese is a drug!!

Interesting article :)

Haven't cracked yet on the cheese front, but DP is a bad influence on the alcohol front!!!

fluffyanimal · 13/01/2012 09:57

Yesterday's food:

B - Oatibix cereal, skimmed milk, 1 tsp sugar
L - Chicken and tomato sandwich, low-fat mayo. Fat free yogurt.
D - Spinach and ricotta tortellini (less than 1/2 a pack), arrabiata sauce, veg and a little diced bacon. Fat free yogurt.
Snack - digestive biscuit.

OK, so the news is, I weighed in this morning and over the last 10 days I have lost a measly half pound. HALF AN EFFING POUND. Sad Angry
I have been so good, I have been so strong willed, I've put up with feeling less than full (which I don't enjoy), and this is all I get.
Well, after a little self-pitying weep in the shower, I have dusted myself down and I will not be defeated. I must obviously up the ante. I will try to look again at everything I eat to make sure that the healthy options I am choosing are really lower calorie. I will try to ditch the sugar on the cereal. And most of all, I will make time for exercise. Swimming at the uni pool on Mondays, and a DVD work out on Fridays when I work from home.

I WILL SHED THIS WEIGHT.
