This thread is for everyone who wants to stick to their diet, and would like to benefit from public support in doing so.

Rules for participants:

  1. Define your own limits - post them here or keep to yourself, but be clear and specific about which foods are allowed and which ones are not;

  2. Keep your diary - post here on a daily basis what you've eaten, and how this deviates - if it does - from your goals;

  3. Be honest;

  4. 1 month commitment required - which means that even if you have a diet slip, you are still expected to keep posting your daily reports (and hopefully get back on track in the meantime) until at least 1 February;

Feel free to talk about anything health and diet related - especially the difficulty you're facing when trying to change your eating habits - but please be supportive and sensitive to other people's decisions/choices. Negative or judgemental posts about somebody else's ability to keep to their promises strictly not allowed.

Remember - this thread is more about making it happen than talking about it.

Believe in yourself! You're doing this to become a better YOU.

I have blown it today Blush, went for a romantic three-course meal with DH while the kids were in school. It was bloody delicious but I won't torture you all with the details here Grin so will be back on track tomorrow!

gomummygo · 13/01/2012 18:29

Tiny that explains it!!! I am seriously addicted to cheese.

Ah Meg, have to have a treat once in a while! :)

Hope you're feeling better today Glenshee

Tillyscoutsmum · 13/01/2012 21:29

Sad fluffyanimal. Its gutting when you don't lose as much as you expect. At least its going the right way though Sad. Have you considered the 30 day shred dvd for exercise ? I know you are pushed for time but its only 20 mins per day.

Glenshee - hope you're feeling better today. I meant to say earlier up thread (when I was having my chocolate deprivation strop Grin), thank you for the suggestion of the Nak'd bars. I have bought some and, whilst I 'd be lying if I said they tasted much like chocolate bars, they do go some way to satisfying a sugar craving Smile

My food diary today:-

Brekkie - Fruit smoothie
Snack - Nak'd chocolate bar
Lunch - 1 slice of granary toast with half tin or sardines on, satsuma
Dinner - Teriyaki Salmon with noodles (it was scrummy !)

2 litres of water, 2 coffees and a tea

Woolwif · 13/01/2012 21:38

All things considered not too bad today, especially as was at big meeting with big buffet all day:

Bfast: grapenuts, actimel, raisins
Lunch: 2 small salmon sandwiches, 2 tempura king prawns (couldn't resist), 2 feta and spinach goujons, grapes
Dinner: Thai green chicken curry with mange tout rather than rice, orange
Snack: end of week chocolate treat, six squares of Cadbury' s caramel. Yum.

Weighed myself this morning, am 5lbs down since Christmas, 2 since last week. Honestly don't think I would have been so controlled if not for this thread so feeling very fondlly towards you all.

Tillyscoutsmum · 13/01/2012 22:19

Well done Woolwif

vanfurgston · 13/01/2012 23:00

Joining the applause for woolwif

Day8 for me
Breakfast- 2 slices, egg
Lunch- chicken curry , chutney, 1 pita bread
Dinner- same as lunch

Snaks- wheat thins, satsumas(3), grapes,banana

I went to town on the snaks today. More control from tmrw

Glenshee · 13/01/2012 23:08

MegBusset - this is cheating! You need to post what you've eaten and feel ashamed Grin

Welcome bojangles77 - can you post what you eat normally? - That'd be a good start...

Tillyscoutsmum, gomummygo - I feel better, thanks, to the extent that is possible after a complete emotional meltdown yesterday :( Felt really weak in the morning, but only physically, not emotionally, got late for work, but boss was very understanding and nice to me. Did lots of interesting work which kept me busy and distracted. Quite a pleasant day.

Diet-wise I've had a cup of coffee and an 'Eat Natural' bar (which has some chocolate in it), but this wasn't impulsive, I consciously decided it will give me a short-term boost and this is the day when I really need it. And I did feel better.

I also had crackers with cheese which I wouldn't normally have, and this was more like giving in to temptation. They were nice :)

Report:

B - sautéed veg (leftover from yesterday)
snack - 4 crackers with cheese
L - chips, beetroot and beans salad (loads of it)
snack - 2 bananas; coffee + 'Eat natural' bar
T - Chickpeas and veg soup, gluten-free bread, 2 sausages
late evening - 2 pieces of homemade apple pastry

2 cups of green tea, 2 cups of black tea
4 glasses of water

Went to weigh myself and haven't lost any weight. After puzzling over the Anomaly I came to read my previous entries and I was confronted by the mixed nuts so no surprise there. Anyhow I feel thinner for some reason so am pleased with myself nonetheless

Glenshee · 14/01/2012 08:33

vanfurgston - keep going - first few pounds can be the hardest!

I forgot to report a cup of coffee yesterday at home in the morning, so 2 coffees altogether...

Evening all Grin Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

So far today, I've had:-

Brekkie - Smoothie & cereal bar
Lunch - Poached egg on toast (1 slice of granary)
Dinner - Spag Bol and 1 piece of garlic bread

We ate early with the dc's, so I may need to indulge in a Saturday night "treat" later.

I have to say, I'm quite enjoying re-discovering lunches. I hadn't had sardines on toast or poached egg on toast for years. I have thoroughly enjoyed them Smile

Weigh in on Monday. Last week, I gained 1lb from the Friday to the Monday, so need to try and keep things on an even keel this weekend. We are out for lunch tomorrow though Hmm

How's everyone else doing ?

Tillyscoutsmum · 14/01/2012 18:29

Oh - I chased up my shred dvd today. Its out of stock until 20th Jan apparently ! Is that the power of MN I wonder ?!

fluffyanimal · 14/01/2012 19:19

Evening all. So yesterday I was good and didn't crack, despite my disappointment. Friday's food:

B - Oatibix cereal, skimmed milk, 1 tsp sugar.
L - Chicken and tomato sandwich, low fat mayo. Fat free vanilla yogurt over a chopped banana with 1 tablespoon of raisins sprinkled over (yum - feels like a real pudding).
D - Went out for a curry with the family, but was really disciplined:
1/2 a poppadom with a few tsp pickles
Less than 1/2 a boiled rice, with 3/4 saag aloo side dish, about 3 spoonfuls of chicken korma.
1/2 pint lager. After Eight.

Today:
B - as above (have forgotten to ask DH, who makes the breakfast, to stop putting sugar on my cereal but will do so tonight).
L - bought in local soft play: Cheese, pesto and tomato panini with salad.
D - 3 1/2 slices of a 12" pizza, 1/2 a small tub of low-cal coleslaw. Fat free yogurt.

fluffyanimal · 14/01/2012 19:20

Tillyscoutsmum, tell me about this Shred DVD please? A friend is going to lend me a couple of workout ones, but this Shred thing sounds interesting, is it really working for people?

Tillyscoutsmum · 14/01/2012 19:50

Apparently so fluffyanimal. I've seen it mentioned on MN a lot . Its Jillian Michaels who does it (the instructor from The Biggest Loser programmes) and its called The 30 days shred. You have to do it every day for 30 days and reports are always that it is pretty intensive but that it gets results quickly and only takes 20-25 mins per day to do. I ordered it ages ago but it hasn't arrived yet. I've linked to the latest MN thread about it up there ^. I like results quickly otherwise I get really disheartened (I'm not a natural "exerciser"), so thought it was worth a go Smile

msbuggywinkle · 14/01/2012 19:55

Space for a late joiner? I need daily accountability to keep me going!

Glenshee · 14/01/2012 20:02

Welcome msbuggywinkle - I also find that accountability helps a lot - I would have probably given up by now without this thread. One or two bad days are enough to rock the boat, and make it very tricky to carry on if you've got no external support...

OP posts:
Tillyscoutsmum · 14/01/2012 20:03

Of course msbuggywinkle Grin What are your goals ?

msbuggywinkle · 14/01/2012 20:19

Thank you! I should start by saying that I have a five week old bfing DD and that I want to lose about two stone.

Goals...

8+ glasses of water a day.
No snacking after dinner.
No take aways.
Some form of exercise at least twice a week.
Healthy snacks and only if I am actually hungry rather than bored!
No silly starving myself either.
No processed foods.

Tillyscoutsmum · 14/01/2012 20:27

Wow ! 5 week old. Congratulations Grin and kudos to you for thinking about getting into a healthy routine this early. I think I was still struggling to get out of bed Grin

Glenshee · 14/01/2012 21:02

I made no real effort to eat healthily today :( However I refuse to give up dieting and will try better tomorrow...

B - potato latkes (loads), tea
L - cup of tea, 2 toasts with butter
T - rice, sausages, sautéed veg, homemade bread
2 cups of tea, one piece of genoa cake (which made me unwell - I can't and shouldn't eat nuts!)
late evening - a large bowl of cherries from the market (yum!)

No water :( 2 glasses of pineapple juice

My shortcomings today were:

  • not enough water
  • too much tea
  • white bread in toasts doesn't agree with me well, and nuts - even more so!

Glenshee · 14/01/2012 21:09

On the plus side, my DH bought me barley coffee at the market, which will help me to give up on normal coffee entirely. I love barley coffee - was drinking loads as a kid and am totally nostalgic about it :) I looked and looked but couldn't find it here in the UK, except on one occasion in Home Bargains (gee!) and on the internet but with significant delivery cost overheads... So I'm well pleased!

Also bought barley grain with the view to roast and grind it myself :)
