This thread is for everyone who wants to stick to their diet, and would like to benefit from public support in doing so.

Rules for participants:

  1. Define your own limits - post them here or keep to yourself, but be clear and specific about which foods are allowed and which ones are not;

  2. Keep your diary - post here on a daily basis what you've eaten, and how this deviates - if it does - from your goals;

  3. Be honest;

  4. 1 month commitment required - which means that even if you have a diet slip, you are still expected to keep posting your daily reports (and hopefully get back on track in the meantime) until at least 1 February;

Feel free to talk about anything health and diet related - especially the difficulty you're facing when trying to change your eating habits - but please be supportive and sensitive to other people's decisions/choices. Negative or judgemental posts about somebody else's ability to keep to their promises strictly not allowed.

Remember - this thread is more about making it happen than talking about it.

Believe in yourself! You're doing this to become a better YOU.

MegBusset · 10/01/2012 20:56

Struggled a bit to resist biscuits this afternoon, still feeling a bit wiped out after my migraine. I managed with just a banana though. Now that I've lost the couple of pounds I put on at Christmas, I can see it might get harder to carry on denying myself all treats, so I'll see how I go.

Anyway, today:
Breakfast: porridge
Lunch: tomato & three bean soup, crusty bread
Dinner: quiche, new potatoes & salad
Snacks: one slice banana bread, apple, satsuma, banana
One glass wine

MorningCoffee · 10/01/2012 21:13

Today's food -

Late breakfast - 2 weetabix, skimmed milk and half a banana.
Lunch - glass of water.
Dinner - homemade gammon stew, with pots, cabbage, carrots, 2 small home baked crusty rolls.
Snack - weight watchers banoffe pie, 1 x apple

Tonight glass of water.

Only had 2x glasses of water today and 1 x glass of lemonade really need to increase the water.

Glenshee · 10/01/2012 21:44

MorningCoffee - a glass of water for lunch! That never ever happened to me, however late my breakfast was.... You're a hero! :)

Dinner- cajun spiced chicken breast, sweetcorn, sweet potato

Snacks- squares crisps, cereal bar, 2 roses chocolates

Just in from work so no time for exercise/calorie counting but reckon i'm round about the 1200 mark

MegBusset - seriously impressed with your willpower. (a banana)... :) Keep it up.

Glenshee · 10/01/2012 21:50

vanfurgston - that's fab. I did have long stages of 'thinking about the next meal/food' all day, and it just totally sucks out all the energy you could otherwise spend on lovely other things.

OP posts:
Glenshee · 10/01/2012 21:57

migratingsouth - I think cutting out cheese, chocolate and alcohol is definitely one of the possible ways forward. Are you sure you can handle avoiding all three at the same time? Also, by chocolate I'm guessing you mean all (or nearly all?) sugary stuff, not just the chocolate as such. If you crave sugar badly, then honey is a good option.

Not sure what to suggest about your late meals, but eating as late as you do can't be good! Are you sure there's no escape? My SIL lost over 3 stones by simply not eating (at all) after 6pm.

OP posts:
Glenshee · 10/01/2012 22:02

migratingsouth - also, don't be fooled by your partner's seeming ability to 'balance it out'. Problems that result from unhealthy eating manifest themselves in different ways, it's not always about the weight, and it's not even always something obvious. You're lucky in a way that your body screams for help, and so you know you can't go on like this. Some other people aren't as sensitive and only find out they need to change when it becomes a very serious illness.

I had a good day, overall :)

B - an enjoyable and very positive cup of coffee at home (how's my excuse this time? Wink ), and porridge with honey
Later - decaf coffee at work
snack - raw carrots
L - two double sandwiches (BTL) - have no idea whatsoever how people can manage on a single sandwich at lunchtime (some of my colleagues do!); for me 2 sandwiches seems just right, and not too big a portion really...
snack - 2 oriental pears

2 cups of green tea
8 glasses of water + 3 more glasses after jitsu session (was very thirsty!)

This is my first record of 8 glasses of water a day (actually even more today!) - pleased and proud :)

OP posts:
Glenshee · 10/01/2012 23:04

... Tea - cabbage & aubergines salad, scampi, 2 pieces of homemade sweet loaf (not much sugar in them), 2 cups of tea.

vanfurgston · 10/01/2012 23:23

Thanks liveinazoo and glenshee I m mighty proud of myself today
B- 2 slices. Bread + tea + egg
L- mixed vegetables
Dinner- mixed vegetables

Snaks- banana, satsumas, plums. (thankfully the mixed nuts finished)

Exercise- brisk walk for an hr

vanfurgston · 10/01/2012 23:25

Well done on the water Glenshee. I am averaging arnd 6 glasses a day and gradually increasing

Woolwif · 10/01/2012 23:38

Quick late night post:

Bfast: porridge plus banana
Lunch: chicken salad sandwich
Dinner: out at Italian restaurant so could have been much much worse but Parma ham, chilli tomato prawn thing plus veg, few mussels from neighbors plate (with her permission)
Drinks: lots of water, diet coke, glass of wine, cup of tea.

Am a total pizza monster if I have the chance so am feeling quite proud of my willpower...and no chocolate so far this week either.

Glenshee · 10/01/2012 23:45

Sounds like everyone's doing really well Grin

Woolwif well done for resisting in a restaurant, I don't know if I could!

liveinazoo that's what I should do, but only carrots here as far as raw veg goes - think a trip to the supermarket is needed!

Glenshee I'm fine with the chocolate. It's the cheese I really miss!
Good tip about the honey though, thanks! I've been having a few sultanas when I want chocolate too.

"Some other people aren't as sensitive and only find out they need to change when it becomes a very serious illness."
Hmm, yes something to think about. DP is pretty unhealthy in lots of ways (still smokes for example, and drinks tons of caffeine).

gomummygo · 10/01/2012 23:57

Shameful report today!

B - Coffee whilst driving, most of which was consumed by my scarf
L - nothing
D - Massive amounts of my comfort linguine dish (shrimp, olive oil, garlic, butter, lemon, spinach, cheese, roasted peppers). And I do mean massive.

Not a good day, unplanned, hopefully tomorrow will be better!

gomummygo · 10/01/2012 23:58

Sorry, did not explain that well - left in a rush this morning and then the car broke down. Stranded at mechanic's most of the day until DH picked me up after work. Hence the healthy diet! :)

migratingsouth · 11/01/2012 00:00

OK, today:

Breakfast - missed

Break - "booster bar" (wholemeal, nut & seed supposedly-healthy option at uni. Not sure how healthy it actually is, but it's not a pan-au-chocolate anyway!) & coffee (one sugar)

Lunch - Spicy lentil soup & plain butter croissant (croissant probably bad but they'd run out of rolls)

"Snack" on the way home - licked DS's yoghurt top and that was it!!

Snack at home - half a chocolate biscuit & a cup of tea

Dinner (9pm) Scotch broth soup, then eggs, chips & beans.

I know, I know! Really not the most effective day dieting wise! But I'm still pleased as I came across 4 biscuits in the biscuits tin, and I would usually have had as many as I felt like (3, 4 or 5?) but I had just half with DP. It had been a long day! Also still no cheese or alcohol (yippee!)

Tillyscoutsmum · 11/01/2012 11:22

Morning ladies. I wasn't able to post yesterday (hairdresser was round last night giving me a new 'do Grin).

Yesterday I had:-

Brekkie - Smoothie and 1 piece of toast with the merest scraping of jam
Lunch - 1 piece of thick granary bread with cottage cheese, spring onion and tomato on
Dinner- Bowl of (homemade) chicken mulligatawny soup and 1 piece of granary bread

Fecking shred DVD STILL hasn't arrived. Grrrrrr

gomummygo · 11/01/2012 13:48

Migrating Wow @ no cheese! Impressive.

Have also ordered Shred DVD, though am now a bit intimidated having read another thread about it! :)

Tillyscoutsmum · 11/01/2012 16:27

I'm really craving chocolate today... like eat 4 or 5 bars of the stuff craving Sad I'd also kill for a chinese takeaway.......

Glenshee · 11/01/2012 19:23

I had a good day until the evening when I resorted to 2 cups of tea and 3 (homemade and sensibly sweetened) buns. Don't really see it as a big crime, but would be better off without them... Enjoyed them though :)

B - tea, porridge with honey
snack - raw carrots
L - rice with sweetcorn and peas, salmon
snack - cucumbers and celery
T - split peas casserole, baked tuna
2 cups of green tea
2 cups of black tea + 3 buns

7 glasses of water so far (still have an hour and half until cut-off to drink the last 8th one!)

OP posts:
Glenshee · 11/01/2012 19:27

Tillyscoutsmum - can you think of any substitutes that would fix it for you?

Are you able to settle on Nakd cocoa bars instead? They are made from raw cocoa and dried fruit. A huge difference to 'normal' chocolate. (much healthier!)
