Hello everyone - belated Happy new year to you all from me.

Dd has been most poorly so I haven't been around - she is fine and back at school now, but it has been an unpleasant few days. Flu, or something like it Sad

Here's to a happy and healthy 2012 for all of us - and lovely hair for KK and OneinEight.

BackforGood - good to see you: I couldn't stay away either. I know who you were, at least virtually, Wink and am glad that we could both find a way back.

Sending positive vibes for all those having treatment or waiting for tests and results this week xx

smee · 03/01/2012 10:19

Waving to Sometimes. Smile Hope DD's illness didn't disrupt the New Year festivities you'd planned. Grim when they're sick like that.

I have some mini twirls on the go - managed to buy without DS seeing. He'd only have insisted on sharing and they're bad for him. Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 03/01/2012 10:41

I may need a restorative mini Twirl or two smee
Hope the hair dos are fab Grin

Ooh mini Twirls Impossible to stick at just one......

New Year's plans were totally scuppered, smee. I have never seen dd so quiet!!! I cleared out a whole walk in cupboard in the kitchen while she was ill without her appearing once to ask what I was doing, or offer advice/assistance/opinions as to the slatternly levels of hygiene. And that was a long job that I don't enter on lightly or often. The lack of input is unheard of before, or since.

I am just trying to work out whether I want to do Twitter or not. Well, I don't want to, that is for certain, but I have a client who wants to, so I am trying it out so I can understand it. What a vacuous waste of time it seems to be. However, if anyone knows better, feel free to enlighten me... And also, how do I tweet on behalf of someone else (ie a company). Can I do that? Oh dear, so many questions, so little understanding....

MaryAnnSingleton · 03/01/2012 11:09

am not very active on twitter (though for some reason my kind dog fb page is linked, so anything I post on there is tweeted) (I don't know how I managed that) I think you can make a link on your tweet (to someone else) and then tweet it. Some folk seem to be doing this every few minutes (tweeting I men) but I don't really get it.

smee · 03/01/2012 11:18

Twitter luddite here. I haven't a clue how it works.

Shame about DD, though am in awe at you and your cupboard clearing. Shock btw, I have to eat more than one Twirl at a time, as I put my bag by the radiator and they've melted together.

MaryAnnSingleton · 03/01/2012 11:22

good thinking smee

Sometimesiwonder · 03/01/2012 11:27

Ooh that does sound nice. Melted Twirls.

Don't be impressed by cupboard cleaning - great bags of stuff came out that had to be binned - some was three years past use by date Shock

The Twitter stuff is a mystery, isn't it? My New Year's resolution is to spend half an hour a day trying to catch up and understand all this --rubbish- social media stuff. Phew. Today's half hour of torment is over. Maybe tomorrow I will even tweet something Grin

smee · 03/01/2012 11:30

Sometimes, here's a link to a Twitter guide that might help.

OneInEight · 03/01/2012 13:23

Sorry Topsy - definitely no photographic evidence - but the deed has been done. My hair has not been as short as this since I was two! Great hairdresser - explained why I wanted it short - and she has managed to fit the bill entirely without it looking too drastic. Glad the appointments went well today MAS and Amber. I can barely handle a mobile phone so no advice on twitter.

Sometimesiwonder · 03/01/2012 13:38

Hooray for nice hair and good hairdressers. What a Godsend.

Glad the herceptin was OK too, amber.

Weather still most grim here. Sad

smee · 03/01/2012 14:04

huge phew for Amber. Glad you're safely back. Smile

And hooray for lovely hair dressers, OneInEight. When do you start chemo? Do you know yet?

I've just had a paranoia wobble, as since mastectomy in October I've had shoulder pain. Instead of being sensible and asking, I've just been letting it gnaw away at me, even though it's very intermittent, which I know means it's probably nothing. Just googled and apparently it's very common post mastectomy and especially with implants. Feel a bit better now. Smile

Sometimesiwonder · 03/01/2012 14:21

ooh smee, how horrible. I am glad you are feeling a bit better about it now. Paranoia is a total sod but inevitable, I guess. I'm glad Google was a force for good this time around!

smee · 03/01/2012 14:24

BC is most definitely the disease which keeps on giving. Hmm

MaryAnnSingleton · 03/01/2012 16:22

oh smee - I guess it'll always be like this Sad..my collar bones ache sometimes and I think is that arthritis or worse ? (or probably because I sit hunched over my desk)

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 03/01/2012 16:53

am very sad that the wonderful illustrator Ronald Searle has died today - he was 90, so a good age..I grew up with his St Trinians & Molesworth drawings and he was I think a huge influence. A friend reminded me of this here He did a story for his wife each time she had chemotherapy for bc.

amberlight · 03/01/2012 17:41

Banana cake would be great.
Yes, shoulder pain or neck/back pain is very common after mastectomy 'cos bodies are used to weight being distributed in X way, and all of a sudden it isn't.
I get to see my consultant on 23rd April for a proper chat about all the SEs. Good.
Tired. V V tired.

smee · 03/01/2012 17:52

The psychology of doubt in all of this is interesting (if maddening!). Logically I know the pain's not suspicious, but at 3am those doubts have a habit of creeping in.

MAS, it is sad about Ronald Searle. I was listening to someone talk about him on the radio earlier. I didn't realise that some of his St Trinians drawings are direct translations (just male to female) of ones from when he was a POW. Very dark, but all the better for it. That book looks good - have never heard of it before.

Amber, good that you get to see your Consultant, though April seems like a while to wait.

DigOfTheStump · 03/01/2012 18:17

Oooh I must be more worried than I thought; see I am a coper, brave face etc, don 't tend to panic outwardly.

Today my DH was driving me to work, huge tree came down about 100 yards ahead of us, only avoided it by seconds by slowing down to avoid a lorry losing its roof immediately in front of us.

So, we turned round and went another way and the road was blocked by another tree. So we turned back down the hill we had come up five minutes before, and our route home was blocked by a giant freshly fallen tree.

DH got out to assess the damage, I waited on hold to non emrgency number for full journey since the first tree, gace up and dialled 999 cos of the amount, and burst intontears to the operator. She was asking why I was so upset when we were allvfine, but it was three road being dramatically blocked, plus branhes hitting the windscreen en route, and the worry of next week and oh Blush

ah well, she doesn't know me lol.

ElusiveCamel · 03/01/2012 18:53

Hello everyone. Seems like everyone has had quite intense days ... Confused

I thought today would be easier being back at work and busy, but found I had the most wildly up & down day yet. Had a long calendar planning session with my boss this morning which was quite stressful. Go from 'Yes, they are definitely going to have found something' to 'Don't be silly, there won't be anything' and back again every 5 minutes it seems - guess this is completely normal the closer you get to getting your results? I'll know in under 24 hours.

ned, how are you finding it?
