Take good care of yourself too, Amber.

Got up early feeling rather grumpy due to lack of sleep(DS and his pals nocturnal cooking was quite nerve wracking) when the postie knocked on the door. Thank you so much whoever nominated me for a pressie, it has made my day! The kindness on this thread is sometimes overwhelming, thank you so much!!!

topsytinselturner · 03/12/2011 07:47

Morning All

Hope that Amber got a good nights sleep last night .

I am up ridiculously early today . Had an extremely weird dream .
In my dream DH and I thought we had mice in the house . We investigated further and found out we had ferrets ! And then one of them climbed under my headscarf and wouldn't get out .
Went out into my front garden and there were a pair of Ibis (I think they are deer like things) grazing on my front lawn .

I am a bit strange aren't I ?

topsytinselturner · 03/12/2011 07:49

Morning ILGC . That's a lovely start to your day ! Make sure it goes straight under your tree , no peeking till Christmas morning Grin

Ilovegeorgeclooney · 03/12/2011 08:16

I wouldn't worry topsy last night I dreamt that I was morris dancing but my pet bat kept on landing on my shoulder and the other dancers were shouting at me. I blame the wine!

jchocchip · 03/12/2011 09:02

Morning everyone. Mice ferrets, ibis and bats. Whatever next? I'm really boring and don't remember dreams usually. I have seen 2 swans, a grey goose and some ducks this morning though, as I got the (very dusty ) bike out for the first time in weeks and went down the canal at sunrise...Xmas Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 03/12/2011 09:02

yay for ILGC - you deserve it Xmas Smile (the present, not worrying nocturnal cooking)
topsy exhausting dream ! I had the dream that I sometimes have where there's a whole extra floor to my parents house kind of abandoned but with all the electrical things going full blast. I had to go around turning them off.

Wow. Two two days out of action and you're already onto the second page of a new thread. Surgery want as expected on Thursday. Bit tired and sore but not half as bad as I expected. Best wishes to all.

Figgyroll · 03/12/2011 11:32

My dreams are definitely weird(er) after a glass of wine or two. Xmas Smile

Well done on getting through yesterday, Amber, with the help of your friends. Can't have been easy for you.

Well done, ILGC, on your nomination and pressie. Have you opened it?

I'm going to have a go at breadmaking today - fancy a bit of pummelling. I'll let you know how I get on and if it's edible. Do any of you have a breadmaker you could recommend? I might invest in one, not sure yet.

Just off to make sausage sarnies for my boys. Hope you all have a lovely day.

Figgyroll · 03/12/2011 11:37

Hello OneInEight, sorry we x-posted. Well done on getting through the surgery and good to know you're not too sore. Take things very easy for the next few days and let yourself be spoiled. I hope you're stocked up on FBS and a good book.

MaryAnnSingleton · 03/12/2011 11:45

well done 1in8 -as figgy says, rest and be spoiled Xmas Grin
Bread making sounds fun figgy - dh loves breadmaking but won't hear of a bread maker - I think enjoys the whole process of it and I have to say his loaves are delicious !

Hi ,i am new here and have a couple of questions,

My first breast clinic appointment is this week and on the letter it says to have a mammogram followed by a consultaion. What other tests am i likely to have?
I have read that sometimes a core biopsy is needed, afterwards will this cause problems driving if i need this done? and can you use deodorant before a mammogram?

Better say a bit about myself, in my forties with 6 children the youngest who is 8. This all started 6 weeks ago with a nasty bout of mastitis ( breastfed 4 of them and never had a problem!) had antibiotics and although infection symptoms have gone, i have been left with a lump that varies in size ( hoping this is a good sign) has been as big as a golf ball and as small as a marble.
I am finding that dh doesn't seem to be very good with all of this and thinks it is unlikely to be the C word, but he has been good in helping more with the domestic side. I feel i have to keep it all to myself ( not close to my mother) and am very aware of not saying anything around the children. A friend of mine died several weeks and my youngest has been quite upset about that
so that is another thing to worry about as well.

Sorry for the ramblings!

jchocchip · 03/12/2011 12:34

Good to hear from you 1in8 plenty of rest and fbs and you will feel better soon.

MaryAnnSingleton · 03/12/2011 12:41

NK it sounds like an infection but of course you will worry anyway until you get seen at the breast clinic. Thew mammogram might pinpoint what's wrong but if not you'll probably have an ultrasound and a biopsy- the core biopsy doesn't hurt and you'll have local anaesthetic -maybe a bit of bruising afterwards but you'll be able to drive/carry on as normal. It's often a good idea to take someone with you if you can,in case you feel a bit queasy (I am queen of quease) The core biopsy thing makes a loud clicking noise which alarmed me ! Then you'll have a dressing over it to keep on overnight. I showered the next day after taking mine off. Results in a few days in my case, all depends on your hospital,or if it's a one-stop clinic.
We'll be thinking of you and do stick around for hand holding.

MaryAnnSingleton · 03/12/2011 12:42

oh forgot- you can use a roll on deo..probably not a spray and no talc - the bits of talc/spray deo. can show up on the mammo as specks which is confusing.

OP posts:
jchocchip · 03/12/2011 12:42

xpost nk you will be able to drive after a biopsy, it's only a little nick. You may be sore for a day or two but nothing to worry about. They may do an ultrasound as well as a mamogram. I think varying in size may mean it is fluid filled which would mean a cyst which can be treated easily. Good luck for your appointment.

cakesandale · 03/12/2011 15:15

Well done amber, ILGC, drift for getting the stitch removed, figgy for allowing her photo to be taken, and whichever loon it was who went cycling early doors (jane I'm looking at you).

NK That does sound like an infection, but of course you are worried. The biopsy does not affect ability to drive. Don't worry. I am glad they are going to put your mind at rest soon.

Waves to all then returns to mountain of work despondently

This week I am going to have to sub contract work to someone else, which always goes against my avaricious freelancers grain....

smee · 03/12/2011 16:33

Got my parents staying, so no time to write, but wanted to congratulate Amber for getting through one hell of a day yesterday. You are amazing. Smile

  • OneinEight, welcome back !! So good to hear you're okay. Tell us more when you can and let us distract you from the soreness. Smile

Cakes, hope all the work will pay for extraordinary treats for Christmas Grin

DH and I went to theatre last night to see 'Jerusalem'. Was excellent.

Better run, but am waving to all. Hope your weekends are wondrous. Smile

Hello people . Watching fat families and eating Mikado dark chocsticks. Hmmm. 5 bottles of wine equals 20 chocolate eclairs. Why do I watch such rubbish?

Party this afternoon - care home staff seem nice, but party was hard work. Food was nice though and residents seem well cared for. Lots seem older than Aunty (78) but think that might be the permed white hair - where does that come from?

topsytinselturner · 03/12/2011 22:20

Evening All

I thinks its the law jane , once you hit a certain age you must have short tightly permed hair Grin

I too received my Secret Santa gift in the post today .
It actually made me cry . Firstly because someone nominated me . And secondly that a random stranger was kind enough to take part in this endeavour .
This time next year I shall pay it forward and go on the gift sending list .

Putting the tree up tomorrow .
Going out to buy a real one and also new tree lights , as last years set gave up the ghost !

Sends virtual fbs to 1in8 as rapid recovery aids . Be kind to yourself and let people do things for you .

Hugs to anyone in need , and I also have Tesco Finest Chocolate Orange Mousses (meece ? mice ?) if anyone fancies one ...

MaryAnnSingleton · 03/12/2011 22:48

yay - you deserve a special treat topsy !
We're off to the yuletide festival in town tomorrow -ds is singing with his New York tour choir - dh is hoping they might have venison burgers for sale, yum.

Dunno about amazing, I think I'm ruddy mad Xmas Hmm but yup, we get through things.

Morning all. Will catch up properly when my one brain cell is working. At the moment it's trying to work out what to do about staying on herceptin. Seeing the consultant on Weds eve to discuss things. Luckily I know my way round the statistics and know that as I've had a complete response to chemo, my odds are no different to those who have ordinary cancer rather than HER2+. But it still gives me an extra 1.8% chance of long term lack of cancer. There again, if I lose most of the feeling in my feet and hands as a result, is it worth that extra small margin. Oh well, that's what consultants are for...
