...here we go again

OP posts:
topsyturner · 12/11/2011 19:43

Hahahahahaaa !
"Bought an axe"
Now you have to expand on that one jane Grin

My butcher seems to sell everything kk . From veggies to fish to cakes .

I am laptopping , DC are playing at a friends house down the street , DH is tackling the Kilimanjaro of ironing that has accumulated in our house .

Wine anyone ?

jchocchip · 12/11/2011 20:12

It's easy really. We lived in a flat for three years, but now we have an open fire and a big woodpile, dh told me to buy an axe so he could chop up some firewood :)

Wine is a brilliant idea, holds out glass to Topsy. Thanks Topsy.

smee · 12/11/2011 20:26

Ooh 'Rev', had quite forgotten that had started. Will watch QI tonight though, so move PigDog off the sofa Topsy and pour me a Wine

Way too much to catch up on, though ILGC, I think go too. Nobody would blink if it was a female friend. Expect Christmas will be tough enough this year without stoopid people spoiling glimmers of fun.

Jane, the axe is for protecting fbs from the teenagers..? Grin

So last Saturday I was at a glam party, this I'm in a sloppy jumper, slippers with holes and have the heady heights of a Sainsbury's curry to look forward to (DH's idea of cooking !). Where did I go wrong?

topsyturner · 12/11/2011 20:26

Think we need a white wine emoticon .
I don't drink red wine .
I like it , but it no longer likes me ...

I prefer my own fevered imaginations ideas of why you bought an axe Grin

smee · 12/11/2011 20:28

Kurri, what are your dad's handwarmers like? I'd like to get or even knit some for my dad. Are they fingerless gloves? Is the pattern easy?

We might watch GH doc too. Smile

topsyturner · 12/11/2011 20:29

Smee I often find myself in pjs and slippers by 7pm , and wonder what happened to the girl who used to go straight to work from a party ?
I used to offer to develope all the xrays , back in the days when we used dip tanks and a dark room , so i could lie down on the cold tile floor for 5 minutes Grin

smee · 12/11/2011 20:40

Ah those were the days..! I was so hungover one morning that when I arrived at work I lay down under my desk. Dozed off and woke to see the boss's feet right by me. Obviously I did the mature thing, so stayed v.still. He nipped out to get a coffee. By the time he got back I was all perky and sitting working. Grin

topsyturner · 12/11/2011 20:52

Bwahahahaa Smee
I also remember one day having to leave the surgery (used to be a dental nurse) to throw up !
And once we had had a staff night out the night before and we all came into work on the Saturday morning . 2 of my nurses were still drunk and I had to send them home .
Aaah the good old days of working for the NHS ...

KurriKurri · 12/11/2011 20:54

They are very easy Smee, this is the pattern I'm using, - it is (any kind of) chunky wool, and its basically straight stocking stitch with a bit of rib on each end, then you sew along the side, leaving a hole for the thumb. The biggest size is actually 'ladies' so I added ten stitches, and went up a size in needles to make it bigger.
They don't have separate holes for each finger - just come down your hand and keep it warm.

I've made him the socks from that pattern too and they are really cosy.

I don't drink red wine either, - it gives me a terrible headache, - even if I only have a glass. DH has made strawberry cider, which is -um- interesting Grin - just about drinkable with a good dash of lemonade!

The powers that be have decided that Dad can't be looked after at home any more. So waiting for a place to come up in a care home, but they have said it may not be in the local town but in one about 10 miles away (a well known seaside town on the south coast), so mum was all 'I'm going to sell the house so I can get a flat there and be with him every day' , but dsis has spoken to mum's solicitor/family friend and he has calmed her down and says he will see what can be done about getting him in somewhere nearer.

Poor old dears Sad

smee · 12/11/2011 21:01

Ah Kurri, your poor Mum. Sad Am guessing your Dad isn't too aware of what's going on? Hope he's not in many ways. Does it mean he's stuck in hospital until a place comes up?

Thanks for pattern. I will have a go. Haven't knitted much since being taught as a child, but I reckon I could manage those. Might get DS to knit a row or two so he can say he helped. Smile

Ilovegeorgeclooney · 12/11/2011 21:02

Oh Kurri it is horrible when things change and suddenly it is like you are the parent. When it happened to me it was almost like I had lost my anchor. I hope they find somewhere close for your father, at least then you will have less to worry about regarding your mother.
BTW my 'darling' children have spent the day ganging up on me calling me a scarlet woman (I wish!!!) having said that I am hanging out for gorgeous george ...... as the name implies!

KurriKurri · 12/11/2011 21:09

No Dad doesn't know what's going on, or understand where he is. On the good side mum says his appetite is good, he has to have his food pureed, and his drinks thickened (to help the swallowing reflex I think) but he's eating a good amount.

If you want the pattern Smee, I can photo copy it for you and pop it in the post. Smile

ILGC - children will gang up given half a chance won't they Grin

topsyturner · 12/11/2011 21:14

kk that's appalling , I can't believe they would place your Dad so far away from your Mum . I hope she manages to make sure they don't do this .

ILGC am loving your kids and their teasing Grin

smee · 12/11/2011 21:41

Good that he's eating then, Kurri. At least that's something. So awful the way he's suddenly declined. Must be heart breaking for all of you.

Pattern would be lovely, but don't worry as £2.54 isn't v.much.. !

ILGC, oh to have the energy to be Scarlet, eh? Am sure George will come along in a bit. Have always thought he needs a good woman. Smile

Ilovegeorgeclooney · 12/11/2011 22:46

Oh yes, why do you think I went to Tuscany this summer!! Fully qualified, but not very good, stalker here,

smee · 12/11/2011 23:10

Didn't know that was his hang-out. Excellent taste, he has, as do you. Clear cut match. Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 12/11/2011 23:23

off to bed shortly- was watching part of the George Harrison thing -missed the bit with the falling poppies on the Festival of Remembrance though..
Poor mum kk - really hope that your dad gets a nice home near her. I have my new fingerless mitts and they are lovely- I can even draw with them on !
I love red wine best-though prosecco is my favourite fizzy...and today we had some sherry as dh has bought a bottle (he uses it for cooking Asian things)
On the 1st December we are allowed ginger wine which I love.

Figgyroll · 12/11/2011 23:44

Evening everyone. Enjoying a glass of Wine here. I love red but am only having it at weekends. Would anyone like a glass?

We came 5th out of 12 at the quiz night. It was great fun. DH was away at a footie match so clever DS1 came and I'm glad he did. He answered most of the questions for us. It was very hard but I was so proud of him. He's a primary school teacher and everyone had high expectations of him so I'm glad he came up trumps. Smile

KK, we forgot to record the George Harrison programme and he's our favourite Beatle. I hope it's on I-player. I hope your mum doesn't have to sell up and move. That would be drastic. I'm sure something can be sorted for dad to move a bit closer. Thank goodness he isn't aware of all the shenanigans - he would no doubt hate it if he knew how worried you all were.

Am loving the hang-over stories. I'm sure I have one somewhere but my memory has deserted me which is probably a good thing.

MAS, I saw your link on FB to the fingerless gloves. They look fab. I love that Folksy website - I've bookmarked a ring and some earrings (to start with). Smile I love sherry but only tend to buy it at Christmas too. It's such a "warming" tipple.

Just off to bed, - well done on coming fifth Figgy, glad you had a good time Smile

Cat rev is a comedy I think it's on Thursdays (I watched it on iplayer for the first time yesterday - it was good)

FBS - are fat boy snacks, which is my grown up DS's name for the kind of unhealthy snacks he and his flatmates used to make themselves at 2a.m. Grin - and since we like to compare notes on foodstuffs and there is a lot of mention of cake, FBS seemed appropriate Grin

KurriKurri · 13/11/2011 00:11

Oh I think GH doc. should be on iplayer Figgy, the second part of it is on tomorrow evening if you want to see that.
