...here we go again

Hi ILGC, I think it's lovely that you've got a friend who would like to spend time with you over Christmas. If you enjoy each other's company and your DC are happy about it then I think you should definitely go. It's not disrespectful to your late DH at all. As far as I see it, there is no difference between spending an evening with a good male friend or a female friend. I hope you say yes and go.

KurriKurri · 11/11/2011 22:24

Oh poor lass, - the constipation is horrible, so uncomfortable - hope they've given her something to help with that, I found movicol worked best.

And ignore the moral crusaders - some people are never happy unless they are poking their noses into other peoples lives.

MaryAnnSingleton · 11/11/2011 22:30

ignore stupid people ILGC and if you and your dc are happy then do spend time with nice man. Poor dd and constipation, but glad she seems to be doing well.

Heck here I am up at 3am. Missed a text from dd who was at an 18th birthday party - she was wondering how to get home about 3 hours ago. Hmmmm I've texted and no reply. bit late to ring. What should I do? She is probably asleep at friends house.

ilgc - what they said. It should be a pleasant evening out with a friend and no reason not to go.

jchocchip · 12/11/2011 07:57

panic over - just had not noticed her come in.

topsyturner · 12/11/2011 08:26

Morning All

ILGC ignore other people . He is your friend , you are going to a party with him . What's to gossip about ?
If you are happy , your DC are happy , then how dare other people think they can sit in judgement ?
Definitely not disrepectful to your DHs memory .

Phew jane , very unusual though for a child to be able to sneak into a house quietly in the early hours Grin
If my memory serves me correctly it would have taken me 15 minutes of fiddling and cursing just to get the key in the front door !

Went to bed about 9.30 last night . Managed to sleep till midnight , then was awake till about 2.30 . Then slept till about 4.30 and that was me up .
Think I need to stop the day time naps so I am so exhausted at night that I sleep the whole way through .

Whats the plans for the weekend ?
Nothing planned here , just Grannys tomorrow for our usual Sunday Lunch .

amberlight · 12/11/2011 08:33

ILGC, my view would be that you are both unattached and adults and have every right to friendships or romances without anyone else's opinion. They're probably just jealous. Goodness me, as if you don't deserve a huge chunk of happiness after all you've been through...

Going to attempt to go to a neighbouring town for the day with my dsis. This could end well, or not. I'm hoping for the former.

Meantime, I'm putting the kettle on for Brew

MaryAnnSingleton · 12/11/2011 09:17

hope all goes well and you have a lovely day amber.
Am up late as disturbed sleep too-dh in v late as he'd been out with a bunch of menfolk (neighbours) then he woke up at about 3 with cramp-had totally bizarre and complicated dreams all night too.
Am drawing today, probably washing the floor (oh joy)- miserable and damp here. Brew would be nice !

Hello all, hope it is as beautiful in your neck of the woods. Here on the Isle of Wight it is gorgeous. Unfortunately I have to stay in today to help my eldest DD with her new decorative shoe storage! It seems to involve ribbons and stilettos being hung down the wall. Looks very pretty but probably not suitable for walking boots!
Just seen your post MAS, hope our weather gets to you soon and you catch up on sleep.
I wish my teens could come in quietly, DS woke me at 2 this morning 'quietly' making cheese on toast for 3 pals. Of course they are all snoozing now so I can't even sit in the family room since both sofas are occupied!
Have a lovely day today everybody

jchocchip · 12/11/2011 10:27

tbh I'm glad I missed text. Party was at a new house on an estate an I got very lost the only time I went there (in daylight) Dd shared a taxi home. She has borrowed her sister's bicycle and just set off on a 17 mile bike ride!!! I'm impressed. It is just brightening up here after a few grey days.

I don't know where we went wrong with the dcs. None of them drink alcohol and the older two are most disapproving of our occasional wine or beer. Could it be genetic? Mum's side were methodists!

Hope you all have a good day. Just dropped big hint to dh to make me a coffee :)

MaryAnnSingleton · 12/11/2011 11:50

they sound great jane !!
ILGC - your nice weather has drifted over the solent to us ! Grin

KurriKurri · 12/11/2011 12:37

hello all, - it must have been a night for weird dreams, - I had a really horrid one, and woke up in a panic.

Oh I miss having teenagers and their chums in the house, I do like them, - they are so funny and enthusiastic, - although mine tended to be creatures of the night, and our time zones didn't always cross Grin
Hope your DD enjoys her bike ride jane, - its cold and damp here too, but actually wouldn't be too bad for cycling.

We popped out to the garden centre to get a few bulbs, (mini iris, fancy tulips, mini narcissus) so I can make up some nice cheery tubs for the spring. Also bought some thick welly socks for DSis birthday, and did my usually trick of admiring the bantams and chickens they have there and dropping heavy hints to DH Grin - he knows my life will not be complete until I get chooks.

Hope everyone else has a lovely daySmile

MaryAnnSingleton · 12/11/2011 12:49

my mum wanted chooks, but I think naughty cats would make their life a misery.

Ilovegeorgeclooney - others here have answered most sensibly and eloquently, I just want to add that of course you should take up this invitation if you want to. I am so sorry for the loss of your husband and the double wammy of being ill and caring for your dd. What is life? (and the treatment were are enduring) all for, if not for living. I know I would want my dh to live life to the full if anything happened to me.

jchocchip · 12/11/2011 14:10

Bulbs sound a nice idea - I really must get around to planting some I bought the other week! I've misplaced the card part of my driving licence. Going to have to search for it now. I really thought it was in my wallet! Dd1 has made it to Leeds covered in mud as no mud guards on that bike :) Dd2 's friends have started to arrive and they seem to think it woud be a good idea to get some chocolate for the chocolate fountain. Hmm can see the diet falling over today.

Chicks are fun, as long as you keep them away from any plants you want to keep...

Driftwood999 · 12/11/2011 14:36

Figgyroll - many thanks! I will be warning others of the SE of codeine, which I have to say was great initially, combined with the paracetamol and or Ibuprofen. I am now down to paracetamol and Ibuprofen 2/3 times a day. Constipation is no joke, but it's essential that a sense of humour is maintained at all times! never suffered from it before and I will take measures to avoid it in future if on painkillers. My sympthay to all sufferers. I second the wearing of vest tops instead of a bra, and as figgy says, get a size smaller than usual. I sleep in the one I have worn since a shower in the morning under a nightie, they miss all the sore bits and are soft.

jchocchip · 12/11/2011 14:58

lost my post again :( Found my driving license, phew. Glad you are un - bunged! Retaining a sense of humour helps with life in general.

Figgyroll · 12/11/2011 15:08

Glad your DD got home safe, Jane. I bet she had you panicking there. I wish DS2 could come home quietly. He usually falls through the door, makes loads of noise just getting a drink of water then stomps up the stairs, turns all the lights on and just generally makes a noise which disturbs me but no-one else. And that's him "trying to be quiet". Believe me, he's usually a lot worse. Be glad yours don't drink alcohol - I so wish DS1 didn't binge at the weekends. Sad

KK, I've got several friends who have chickens and really enjoy them. I say if you've got a big enough garden and you can devote a corner to them so they can scrape, then go for it.

Hope you have a lovely day with your sister today, Amber. I hope you find a little tea-shop to partake.

DH and DS2 are at a far-away footie match today so I'm going with friends to a quiz night later and we'll be one down which means we'll have to try extra hard. I'm looking forward to it.

pinkstarlight · 12/11/2011 15:33

ilgc...goodness me what is wrong with people, you more than anyone need a good friend around you.go to the party and have some fun will do you so much good.as long as your kids are ok about it stuff what other people think.you must be so proud of your dd she sounds like shes coping really well, shame about the dreaded constipation i hope they can sort her out.

jane..im glad your dd got home ok, typical shes home safe while you go into panic mode.i hate it when my kids text me but then dont answer their phones.

im another one that loves her vest tops from marks and spencers,so comfy.i have them in so many colours i seem to be living in them at the moment especially good with my hot flushes.

no one sneaks in my house quietly as the dog always barks hello,so when dd1 comes in after a night clubbing you hear lots of bangs, crashes, barks and shhhh noises.

jchocchip · 12/11/2011 19:16

houseful of teenagers tonight. Well 4,13yo girls in living room with chocolate fountain cheesy nachos and toasted marshmallows, ds back from uni with 2 of dh's old workmates and a further teenager in the dining room and dd1 and another 3 in the park and wandering in and out for cheese on toast...

topsyturner · 12/11/2011 19:22

Evening All

Haven't done much today , Tesco and the butchers . Went to M&S to get buns but they had sold out of everything on their bakery counter , was most distressing !
Found a cherry madeira in the buchers (they sell cakes and tarts) so that has slightly mollified me .

Am in town on thursday (CT first thing in the morning) . DS wants me to pick him up the newest Diary of a Wimpy Kid from Waterstones , apparently if you buy it in the first week you get a golden ticket and go into a lucky dip to meet the author .
So I might hit M&S to buy some of these vests everyone is reccomending .

TV highlight tonight is QI XL .
Did anyone watch Rev this week ?
I blardy love that programme .

Do you know , I haven't worn any of my new shoes yet ?
Have a family Christmas lunch at a hotel in December that I shall wear a pair of them at . Will have to persuade some friends that we need a night out so I can wear the others .

What are the rest of you up to tonight ?

jchocchip · 12/11/2011 19:30

Hey, everyone but me has friends round! Dd2 and friend have decamped to her room to watch a dvd though and left the chocolate fountain so its not all bad ;) Anyone want a chocolate marshmallow?

jchocchip · 12/11/2011 19:32

I only did a little bit of shopping today, got a new headlight bulb fitted and bought an axe...

KurriKurri · 12/11/2011 19:34

TV night here, Strictly, then X factor, then DD and I are watching a docu. about George Harrison (DD big Beatles fan).

Hope to finish knitting dad's handwarmers while I watch.

I watched Rev on iplayer the other day topsy, - v funny Grin The butchers round here sell cakes and tarts too (I thought that was very odd when we first came to live here)
