...here we go again

Morning All

Sparkles is the dla claim for you or for your ds ? If its for you , go to MacMillan . They will fill the forms in for you .
If for your son , does he have a society (like MacMillan) to support his disability ? If yes , ask them for help with the forms . Or if he has a social worker assigned , get there input .
Don't be afraid to ask for help with these things . I know people who work within the system who find the dla forms a complete nightmare !

In answer to your query about kk , her beloved Dad passed away . So she cancelled her thyroid treatment and has gone to stay with her mum for a while .
Hope you are doing ok kk .

Good luck for todays appointments to mas and amber .

DC home today , schools closed for strikes .
So far they have emerged from their pits rooms only to drag a bowl of cereal back in .
I am on the sofa in my pjs and wrapped in a blanket (blardy freezing here today) watching last nights Masterchef .
Had last nights left over potato bread and bacon for breakfast

Still no sign of anything from the Tax Credits people , that's now 13 weeks my file has been sat on someones desk . According to the helpline people it should have been dealt with within 14 days , and they have now escalated my case to a supervisers to deal with .
I shall believe that when I see some money hit my bank account !

Also I was so relieved on Monday to be told that my CT scan was clear of anything new , that I completely forgot to ask them the million dollar question about my future outlook !
If I phoned one of the breast care nurses would they be able to tell me anything ? Or would I just have to wait for my next doctor appointment which is 3 months away ?

SparkleRainbow · 30/11/2011 11:37

If in doubt phone the bc nurse..you have nothing to lose! Fab news that the ct scan was clear!!!!! Woohoo!

I am so sorry to hear about Kurri's dad, how awful. I will light a candle for him, and for her.

The dla is for my ds, there is no association for his condition which can help, unfortunately, I just have to muddle through it myself. I have just found online some cutlery that I think will help him....it is £23 for one knife, fork and spoon......Shock

MaryAnnSingleton · 30/11/2011 12:11

just briefly in and out to say hello and how fab to have you back sparkle - damn, meant to tell you about kk's dear dad on fb message (funeral on Friday,so will be thinking especially of them then)
Sorry to hear about chook and sending lots of luck to dh for interview.
Breast clinic was fine -saw my surgeon and my lovely bcn -made complete fool of myself by being so awful at being half naked- I find it so difficult, despite having done it many times- they must think me quite mad.
Next one in 6 months.
Ds back from school and niece here with my brother as it's strike day-think we are going out to lunch.

OP posts:
SparkleRainbow · 30/11/2011 12:28

Out to lunch sounds lovely!

I have just got a letter from Birmingham Children's Hospital giving ds an appt for this friday! Now to decide whether to drive and park!!!!! at (£4 for 2 hours) or train and walk.......

cakesandale · 30/11/2011 12:45

Glad your appt went OK MAS - over for another half a year. Phew!

God to see you back, Sparkels - I am glad DH has an interview: he can always look for better paid work if he gets and accepts this one

amberlight · 30/11/2011 13:18

Yay!!!! Radiotherapy went fine. Emailed the boss, told her what's what, and they've solved it all!!!!

cakesandale · 30/11/2011 13:33

Yay for amber! Here's to a nice, relaxed trot to the finish line.

jchocchip · 30/11/2011 14:03

Hi Sparkle good news about the interview.:( about the money, but well done to your dh at getting an interview so quickly.

Did manage to get an appointment with the gp but she refused to sign me as fit for work :( Bargained down to a 2 week note though, really want to sort out a phased return soon.

Glad your rads was good today, Amber. At least yours is over, MAS.

Just went for a swim, but didn't get one as the pool was shut due to the strike, duh. At least I got a walk out of it!

cakesandale · 30/11/2011 14:12

Do you need to be certified fit, Jane? What a bummer. Sad Maybe you can use the enforced break to get ready for Christmas, that's be nice and it'd make it go quick, too.

Personally i am doing two truly fascinating (not) research projects - one on diesel engines and one on take-up of IT training among teachers. Yawn. It's probably just as well my work station is none too comfy Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 30/11/2011 15:17

yay for amber !

Well done cakes - keep at it- I prescribe short breaks to refresh the mind with fbs as required.

smee · 30/11/2011 16:30

Ooh well done Amber. What a relief. Smile

And Sparkles is back. Hooray!! Smile Was more than a little worried. Lovely to see you, though sorry you've been having so many things to deal with. Sad

Jane, Cakes is right. Enjoy Christmas and concentrate on getting yourself fit. Lots of swimming and cake. Grin

MAS Smile that check up was okay.

I have just had a brilliant consult about my back. Surgeon says fusion is looking good and the next two discs (which were bulging) are now looking fine. First time in ages that my body has done something right. Cakes, are you listening? Takes time, but Fusion works. Smile Smile

Wonder how Seven's getting on. Hope she's okay.

Driftwood999 · 30/11/2011 17:00

There's encouraging news on here for many, pleased that the radiotherapy appointment was ok amber. Hi sparkle, hope you have some good news soon, on all fronts! I think I "turned a corner" today in the way I feel, I've been having a mental shakedown and feel much more motivated. Attended to all sorts of little things and most importantly I've set up my new computerised sewing machine today, that was delivered last Friday. I'ts taken me since then to read/skim the manual, and need to be very methodical. We are gradually making friends Grin I've been getting regular letters/appointments to attend blood donation and have felt so awful not to be able to go since dx. I phoned them last week to explain my situation and today I got a nice letter from the Blood and Transplant service thanking me, along with a certificate of blood donation in recognition blah blah. I didn't fully realize that having had a dx of cancer excludes you from being a donor, though it stands to reason. Anyway, another little thing done which is feeling good.

MaryAnnSingleton · 30/11/2011 17:51

yay for you drift and hooray for good news smee !

OP posts:
jchocchip · 30/11/2011 18:12

Yay for your back, Smee :)

Sewing machine sounds fab, drift :) That will keep you busy!

Keep plodding along, cakes, what's not to like about diesel engines?

Hi RoadArt, hope you're as comfortable as possible in hospital? Who knows, you may continue in the way of not feeling too many side effects. This all affects us so differently, I'm learning. Will look at the site.

Driftwood999 · 30/11/2011 18:53

Hi again RoadArt, are you in NZ too? I had a look and think it's a well written site, I like the comments about the dx being a progressive experience. Have taken a note of the site, thanks for that. Await the update of the funky bras!

Ilovegeorgeclooney · 30/11/2011 19:08

Hello everyone, just popped in to read your news, finally found time being on strike! Glad to hear positive news and thinking of all of you who are struggling. My dd is doing very well and busy making cakes and Christmas cards! Sadly we cannot eat enough cake, it is daily baking!!! So if anyone needs any ...... Thinking of you all.

MaryAnnSingleton · 30/11/2011 20:11

yes please ILGC - glad to hear that dd is continuing to do well Smile

OP posts:
smee · 30/11/2011 20:31

What happened to RoadArt then? Confused

Your new friend sounds fab, Drift, but what does a computerised sewing machine do? Have never heard of them.

ILGC, your house sounds festive. Good to hear your DD's continuing to do well. Should she be feeling okay-ish for Christmas? I can't remember how frequent her chemo cycles are.

OneinEight, will be thinking of you tomorrow. I hope they get to you first thing and you're soon on a ward with lovely nurses and a nice neighbour in the next bed. Let us know how you are when you can. xx

topsytinselturner · 30/11/2011 20:53

Evening

mas great news re your 6 monthly !

ILGC so glad your DD is doing really well . How are you doing ?

Last time I went on a sewing machine drift I ran the needle through my finger Grin

What happened with the deleted message ? Is road art ok ?

Smee glad the back is holding up . Will you need any further treatment ?

1in8 fingers well and truly crossed for you for tomorrow . Hope it all goes smoothly .

Sparkle will they not validate your parking at the hospital ? If you are in for treatment at mine they will .

Be back later , DS wants the lappy !

Driftwood999 · 30/11/2011 21:01

Shit, what did I say to RoadArt to put her off? Confused Did anyone else look at the link?

topsytinselturner · 30/11/2011 21:06

I didn't look , but I'm sure it wasn't your fault drift Grin

Ilovegeorgeclooney · 30/11/2011 21:07

Hi MAS she is due one on Boxing Day ( my 50th birthday - eek ) so we are not as yet sure what will happen. Of course this is not a Christmas we are looking forward to but DH was so into it all we feel we owe it to him to give it a stab. DS has gone all 'manly' claiming he will go to get the Christmas tree this year, since it was always DH's job, awwww Mummy's little soldier!!! It is lovely, but heartbreaking, how he is trying to fill the void. Weird how it is so bitter sweet when your children make you feel so proud, I would so much rather he was being a smelly( well maybe not) normally selfish 17 teenage boy! He even had "stern" words with his younger sister's new boyfriend last weekend! Also he told me off for forgetting to confirm the lawn treatment service, wine amnesia. Baby boy!!!!!!!

Ilovegeorgeclooney · 30/11/2011 21:10

Duh I meant smee, well I was answering her question, too much post-strike ehhh can I call it liquid refreshment?
