So they've won a larger % of the vote than the last government and more seats and you are already deriding them?

This is an electoral disaster for the Tories.

The more likely thing to happen in 5 years is reform will lose support once their incompetence is exposed.

That’s not what I said.

I said Labour has gained maybe 4% more votes than they got themselves when they lost heavily to the Conservatives who gained an 80 seat majority.

The point is they’ve received way less votes than the Conservatives did last time. In fact they are likely to end up with the lowest winning % of the vote for over a century.

The Conservatives had around 44% of the vote in 2019 vs Labour’s predicated 36% this time around.

Things better improve in a concrete way and they have 5 years to do it.

5 years is not long. They would have hoped for a better result than this. As Charlie2121 says, despite the seats this isn't a base to have a two term minimum stint in government. The incumbent government historically always drops votes. It's exceptionally rare to go the other way (2019 was a rare exception - but owed a lot to the Brexit party / ukip not standing many serious candidates).

That's why the agenda isn't going to be set by Labour easier. It's a much easier thing to oppose in this scenario - because of the pressure to deliver manifesto pledges and satisfy.

Farage is wise to this. He doesn't have to prove it.

Wow, Sunderland Central, Reform is 2nd, AGAIN!

duc748 · 05/07/2024 00:05

I do think Labour will get a second term

I'm not convinced. I think they will massively disappoint the public (not surprising, to be fair), and be bumped out at the next one.

Aladdinzane · 05/07/2024 00:01

"Corrected for you"

The arrogance of that, smarting a bit at your major defeat?

I doubt anyone will forget the incompetence, lies and sheer negligence of the Tories in the last 14 years.

This is a major victory and one which will be hard to reverse in 5 years time.

A major victory by number of constituencies is likely. Simply due the ineptitude of the incumbent.

Labour are not getting any more votes than they did in 2019. That does not shout confidence in the electorate. If Torie voters have to vacate to reform what does that say about Labour?

Not according to MN as Reform supporters are just racist bigots that are completely thick so won’t really be bright enough to spot incompetence.

I agree. He even admitted it was a protest vote.

Differentstarts · 05/07/2024 00:08

Go labour 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳

Jutemat · 05/07/2024 00:08

Labour are not getting any more votes than they did in 2019.

These are facts! We've had 3 of the most Labour places in the UK declare first and they lost a few %age of seats to Reform. Tories lost huge %age of seats to Reform.

People are already trying to bend over backwards to minimise Labours results 🙄

Yes.

And no acknowledgment of appalling track record thanks to Boris and Truss.

FFS, you'd think they'd practise constituency names before election night. They're all butchering Houghton and Sunderland South. It's Hoe-tn not Howton or Hooton! Thank god for Chris Mason.

Even the road signs are abbreviated to Ho'ton!

Low turnout in Sunderland Central.

Edited

Labour have a larger share of the vote than 2019, and a lower share than under Corbyn in 2017.

They're winning their seats this time though.

Reform have decimated the Tory vote, and in the results so far labour have gained % of the vote and numbers.

The Tories are fucked for a decade at least.

Reform won't do as well next time.

Yep I've got a mate who is voting Reform and that's exactly what he said.

The big worry about Reform's success is it means the Tories will move to the right and so in a few years' time we are facing a very nasty right-wing government.

dotcombubble · 05/07/2024 00:10

Aladdinzane · 04/07/2024 23:57

Look at the quality of their candidates.

Imagine what they'd do with really good ones.

Well, they'll notice the scandals that will invariably arise.

Labour have lost a small percentage of seats to Reform .

Nadine Dorries’ inevitable meltdown is keeping me up. I have just bet DP that it will happen before the first high profile Tory loses their seat

As has been pointed out on the telly box. These are huge leave areas. It will be more informative when results come in from remain areas, too.

Labour haven't lost any seats to reform yet.

They've gained massively

Word is 30p Lee is out.

That Dr David Bull guy just reminds me why television doctors give me the creeps (with the exception of Dr Chris from back-in-the-day This Morning).
