I haven’t found them racist, misogynistic or homophobic.
Flinging round insults about people who have different political views to you is hardly democratic is it??
And my initial comment ISNT stupid because they DO know what a woman is -which is more than the precious Labour Party do, that mumsnet users seem to worship . David Lammy as Foreign Secretary makes his views on what a woman is so well. But of course HES not called misogynistic - or any other slurs - is he?

”I’m not racist, but let me just weaponise a black man for my argument”

CaveMum · 04/07/2024 23:13

Sunderland get in first again!

PoliticalCanvasser · 04/07/2024 23:13

iwentjasonwaterfalls · 04/07/2024 22:56

Oh and Hartlepool

Boston, where Richard Tice was standing.

Reform is fucking depressing.

100% this ⬆️

Jutemat · 04/07/2024 23:14

Theres no doubt Reform has done the real damage here in terms of stiffing the Tories, splitting the right vote so it loses overall to Labour.

Sunderland will be staying Labour.

CaveMum · 04/07/2024 23:14

Labour get Sunderland, but Reform took a big chunk of the vote.

RedToothBrush · 04/07/2024 23:14

RedToothBrush · 04/07/2024 23:10

Former mining towns.

They are places that have been left behind by the switch in politics - they are areas of high poverty and few prospects. They are socially conservative provincial towns. The current Labour party is much more metropolitan focused towards the big cities. These places are not multi cultural unlike the cities.

@Rizzo81

Come on! These people are the very sort labour is suposed to represent!
Uneducated, no critical thinking!
Reform will do very well next time unless comments and thoughts like yours are not changed.. Unless of course you are not a Labour voter, I'm assuming you are.

PrincessTeaSet · 04/07/2024 23:15

Alicewinn · 04/07/2024 23:12

You do realise we’re an ageing population with a declining birth rate that will need immigrants to be our doctors, nurses, carers? E.g jobs no sane british person would do ?

Yes, I realise that. I did not vote for Brexit myself. I am in favour of free movement. Although I'm not in favour of poaching trained doctors from developing countries

NotJinxingAnything · 04/07/2024 23:15

PrincessTeaSet · 04/07/2024 23:09

It's not controlled at all - the small boats are illegal immigrants. Once here they can claim asylum but up to that point they are illegal

They're not immigrants till they're on our shores, so they can't be illegal immigrants. If they land with the intention of claiming asylum and do so, they are legal from the outset.

CaveMum · 04/07/2024 23:16

Right, I’m off to bed. I shall be back in the morning!

FundingitallHow · 04/07/2024 23:16

Wow 11 thousand to reform in Sunderland and 18 thou Labour!

Kendodd · 04/07/2024 23:16

Predicted to still have my shitty Tory MP

iwentjasonwaterfalls · 04/07/2024 23:16

PoliticalCanvasser · 04/07/2024 23:13

Boston, where Richard Tice was standing.

That's showing 48% chance con hold, 45% reform so I'm not sure whether they'd call it a con seat or reform

TattiePants · 04/07/2024 23:16

More happy tears here but so disappointed, although not surprised, that so many of my neighbours have voted for Reform.

TarantinoIsAMisogynist · 04/07/2024 23:16

... and the first declared result is a swing from Lab to Reform

I'm pleasured that the tories are almost certainly gone, and in a big way.

But look at that Reform vote in Sunderland South! Nearly 30% of the votes by my mental maths - fucking hell.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 04/07/2024 23:16

only 51% turnout in Sunderland - interesting

FloofyBird · 04/07/2024 23:16

FundingitallHow · 04/07/2024 23:16

Wow 11 thousand to reform in Sunderland and 18 thou Labour!

Quite concerning really!

Itisjustmyopinion · 04/07/2024 23:17

Having a great night so far

Absolutely ecstatic about the decimation of the SNP

Glad that the Tories are out. And even though I didn’t vote for them I am glad that the LD have done well

Reform is worrying but unsurprising when you hear some of the backwards thinking that certain groups have

And watching Alistair Campbell winding Nadine Dorries up is making sticking with channel 4 worth while. His dig about the certain Tory peer that we are not allowed to talk about was great

Wedoourish · 04/07/2024 23:17

TarantinoIsAMisogynist · 04/07/2024 23:06

Same - solidarity! 👊

And our constituency as well 😩

Jutemat · 04/07/2024 23:18

The Sunderland stats show how close it is. Sunderland South is ALWAYS Labour but if you add Reform and Tory votes, it's almost on a par with Labour. In other constituencies where its less of a labour stronghold, the combined tory and reform vote will eclipse Labours, however it matters not in terms of seats. Still a huge Labour win.

Edited

It's not a swing it's a Labour hold.

Reform getting a good chunk of votes is no surprise to me, I posted on another thread about it a couple of weeks ago. I live in a former mill town that has been decimated and people are absolutely fed up. I wouldn’t vote reform but I can understand why people want change.

PrincessTeaSet · 04/07/2024 23:19

Rizzo81 · 04/07/2024 23:10

Lack of education, lack of critical thinking, easily swayed by social media and fake news stories. If it’s been a historically racist area it does tend to bleed down through generations and hold tight. Also thinks like lack of access to different cultures especially through things like the arts, music, travel. Can make worlds feel very small.
if places have also been historically very white and had a sharp increase in immigration it always leads to feelings of unease and distrust.

Why would immigrants want to go to these deprived areas though? Aren't immigrants mainly in big cities? Is it fear of the unknown? I mean I am not familiar with all the places but take pontypridd - not exactly overrun with migrants?
