Presuming theyre going to win the election, what manifesto promises are you hopeful about?

For me it's going to be their promise to fast track rape trials, providing proper support to rape victims and targeted support within the police for victims of domestic violence.

Let's hope they make it happen.

I agree the middle class Islingtonists with their perceived social justice interest will vote Labour but I still think core working class workers and non worker are Labour centric .

Anyone who works for a living should be worried about a Labour government.

Really? A lot of working people have been thoroughly screwed by this government. Don’t you mean that people with assets should be worried? Having read the Labour manifesto, they don’t seem to be thinking about general taxes that affect workers.

That leaves a small taxation base on assets, industry and business.

Dread.
I'm really genuine scared if they win.
My poor Grandsons .

Shouldn’t you be saving money to help then emigrate if you believe this?

HauntedPollingBooth · 03/07/2024 11:08

I'm looking forward to boring, sensible, sober, hard-working government in service to the people. It will make a nice change from chaotic, unworkable, incompetent, lazy government in service to self and rich cronies.

You’ve said this on 3 threads now. I’ve asked you what you are scared of. You haven’t replied.

What precisely are you scared of? What is Labour going to do to your grandsons?

I live in a wealthy area. It’s full of vote Labour signs.

DS works in political demographics. What l have said is true. The parties and their supporters have swapped places.

The Tories are supported by white working class with low levels of education and over 65’s

Labour are supported by the young, educated, immigrants and professional classes. Islington is just a London example.

There are ‘Islington’s’ across the whole of the country.

Yup

@Champagnesocialismo

Assets ? You mean people's homes , they are assets aren't they , anyone who wants to pass anything to their kids , anyone who has achieved anything by way of assets need be worried , but given your user name I think it's obvious where your sympathy lies .

Newsenmum · 03/07/2024 11:20

@Moier this is one of the most ridiculous things I’ve read in a while. What on earth could be that bad? Will they be going into poverty? Is it a private school thing? Bloody hell.

I have a feeling it’ll be ok. ;) My current NHS experience has been a bit more terrifying.

hairbearbunches · 03/07/2024 11:26

More private initiatives to sort out infrastructure, state backed and shareholder ££££s.

It’ll be pay day for the corporates and hedgies.

Can’t bloody wait.

That’s your paranoia isn’t it? I don’t think there is any evidence that Labour are going for peoples homes. They might be interested in people who have more than one.

I pointed out the manifesto Labour has written rules the majority of income based taxes. For ordinary working people that is a good guarantee.

You are clearly worried about your assets, but don’t pretend to be sympathetic to working people. You are not

elastamum · 03/07/2024 11:42

Looking forward to a competent sensible government that actually cares about the country. It won't be easy to improve things because our public services have been run into the ground, but it's got to be better than the current corrupt mendacious shower of shit we have been suffering under for far too long.

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 03/07/2024 11:53

I don't know. The tories need to go but I've no faith that Labour will really improve anything longterm. They need to grow the economy to invest in public services so how are they going to do that? There's no doubt the country is in a state but I can't see without significant borrowing for investment to trigger that growth how things will improve and will the growth be enough to fund the borrowing and improve services? I want Labour to do well but unfortunately I'm not seeing what the route is to get there.

5128gap · 03/07/2024 12:51

A government owned energy company and the hope it paves the way to nationalisation of other essential services. Hope that some in roads will be made into NHS waiting times. Hope that disabled and ill people won't be coerced and threatened into taking jobs they're not able to do on pain of loss of income. A safe pair of hands at the helm. Hope for a better future for all of those who've been brought to rock bottom over the last 14 years. I'm lucky, my day to day won't be much impacted either way due to my lifestage and circumstance, but I want to live that life knowing that other people will be suffering less and will have more hope for their futures.

2Old2Tango · 03/07/2024 13:02

People coming to the realisation that it's the same shit on a different shovel and that Labour weren't some miracle cure after all, but just as bad (if not worse) than the incumbents.

The old Tory trope doesn’t work any more. Some of us have memories that go back beyond 2010. Nice try, though.

First they could put someone heavily biased and linked to PIE in a position within the EHRC

Women may as well pack up and leave UK once labour comes in.

Nah. I'm a pretty high earner.

I'm over the moon at the prospect of a government that says it will properly sort out the mess that is the planning system and understands the need for an economic and industrial strategy that recognises that free markets aren't inevitably the answer when it comes to economies going through significant transition.

If you're someone who works for a living there is a lot to like in their approach to the economy and their ability to see beyond solely fiscal levers, as well as their commitment to creating better conditions for stable work.

Would like to see a bit more constitutional reform and worry that curriculum reform will be long-grassed but there are some pretty significant starters to be pleased about.
