What are you most looking forward to if Labour win?

Presuming theyre going to win the election, what manifesto promises are you hopeful about?

For me it's going to be their promise to fast track rape trials, providing proper support to rape victims and targeted support within the police for victims of domestic violence.

Let's hope they make it happen.

Lets speak this time next year , I can't wait .

I suspect this time next year there will be many more reasons pulled out why Labour are failing.
And the black hole and the legacy will continue to do the heavy lifting.
Actually I think it will continue to the next election.
Those of us old enough to have lived through many terms in office know that, really, nothing much changes whoever is in charge.
Unfortunately a lot of posters didn't know this, and seemed to genuinely believe the hype that things were going to be massively different under Labour.

When Sunak was PM his party had been in power for 13/14 years. The current government has been in power for less than six months. I’ll be as critical as the next person if things are no better this time next year but your comparison is ludicrous at this point @Katypp.

So when do you suggest we reconvene then?
After another six months, a year? Two years?

It’s literally in the post you quoted.

So December 2025 and all will be well? I'm sure we will 'speak' before then, but it's a date!

Nobody's saying that. But the BoE are on the record before the election stating that the drop in inflation wasn't going to last. This article explains it well: https://www.theguardian.com/business/2024/dec/23/is-labour-to-blame-for-slowing-uk-economy-its-more-complex-than-that

Yes, I know it's the Guardian, but it has the links to its source material and you'd have to be pretty thick to say 'It's all Labour's fault' when economies are complex beasts. Safe to say it's going to be tough times - but we knew that, didn't we? And no, I don't think Labour are getting everything right. But I'm tired of the simplistic finger pointing.

Is Labour to blame for slowing UK economy? It’s more complex than that

Tories point finger at Rachel Reeves’s budget but economy has been misfiring for best part of a decade

I didn’t say that, did I? I said I’d be as critical as you if things are no better this time next year. I’m too cynical to think all will be well in my lifetime under any persuasion of government.

Nancy1906 · 24/02/2025 07:32

Stagflation here we come!
Bravo Labour 👏
'O but I'm so glad I voted Labour, they're doing a great job, what do you expect in 6 months!?! That 22bn black hole from the previous administration '

Source? I haven't seen anything about this in the media. It's a potential outcome, but not inevitable AFAIK.

This is like looking back at one of those early 2020 threads when people are asking if there's a cold going around.

Nancy1906 · 31/10/2025 09:24

Rachel from Accounts does it again!
Bravo 👏

Pollqueen · 31/10/2025 10:32

.

Nancy1906 · 15/11/2025 11:00

Stagflation baby!
Inflation 3.8%
Growth flatlined
Unemployment rising

Who you gonna call??

Labour!

Nancy1906 · 03/12/2025 10:39

@blossomtoes where art thou?

So Reeves's economic strategy that everybody was banging on about, how does it make you feel?

Who is still banging on about fictitious black hole?

BIossomtoes · 03/12/2025 11:33

The markets gave the budget a ringing endorsement which means lower borrowing costs - think Liza Truss in reverse. That’s good for business. Also the government has invested heavily into science and tech inc AI, nuclear and quantum technologies, with big chunks of money going to Scotland and Wales. Also investment in car manufacturing advanced technologies - DRIVE35. Growth is forecast to rise and interest rates are forecast to fall. And NHS waiting lists and immigration are falling.

Nancy1906 · 03/12/2025 14:06

Since when did you start caring about the markets blossom toes?

I see you haven't learnt very much over the past year.

What about that 20 billion black hole you were crying about last year?

And what of Reeves's black hole that she conjured out of thin air?

Nothing to say about that?

BIossomtoes · 03/12/2025 15:48

Always. Did you really resurrect this thread just to give yourself the opportunity to sneer?

Nancy1906 · 03/12/2025 16:01

I raised it as I promised I would be back. And it's utterly funny to see Labour drown in a puddle of shit

Not being snaeky @blossomtoes but genuinely interested in your thoughts 18 months in.
It seems to me that only the very loyalist supporters are with Labour now - I know even my staunchest friends are utterly fed up.
I am actually starting to feel sorry for Starmer tbh - he's clearly utterly out of his depth and has no idea what to do. RR I still can't stand and Torsten Bell is getting on my wick too.
I think things would be better if they showed some humility and stopped blaming everything and everyone else for the mess. And stopped just parroting the official lines and actually answered questions!
