Acc to Qu Time special tonight.
So anyone still saying I'm not voting Labour because they 'don't know what a woman is'. It seems they have remembered!
So don't vote for them if you have other reasons but can we put this tired old line to bed now?

He has always known he just hasn't stepped out and stated it because he wants to be popular with younger generations and men

Yirk · 20/06/2024 22:06

OK, but did he say real vaginas or made up ones?

AlisonDonut · 20/06/2024 22:06

Thankfully Tony Blair was around to decipher the words and translate them into man speak for him.

Billyandharry · 20/06/2024 22:07

Well now he's out and proud about it.

How bloody shameful it is that Starmer acknowledging this is cause for celebration.
We deserve better.

BIWI · 20/06/2024 22:09

I was in a major strop with DH at that point in time Blush - can you remind me what he said?

Sorry. It's been a bit of an evening Chez BIWI and this was - sort of - a last straw!

Ffs just maybe he’s not quite as slippery as Rishi in changing his opinions like the wind blows. 14 years of Tory shite tells you they don’t give a shiny about women, girls, the elderly, disabled, poor, anyone that doesn’t earn 100k.

Blimpton · 20/06/2024 22:12

You trust that he isn’t going to back pedal?

Cheer away then at this misogynist fool. He will do nothing for women. Remember this?

Keir Starmer - 'Only women have a cervix' 'should not be said'

Nah as soon as he gets the keys to number 10, women's penises will miraculously reappear 😉

It's yet another U turn. He's made so many and he's not even in power yet! There are better leaders and parties out there.

Citrusandginger · 20/06/2024 22:34

I was pretty disappointed with the "but the debate has been so toxic - and I want everyone to be kind at get on" tone. (Paraphrased a bit).

He said trans people should be treated with dignity but didn't manage to extend the same courtesy to women.

AnneLovesGilbert · 20/06/2024 22:36

You’re saying you found his answer helpful, illuminating, in any way authentic? He said he believed what Tony Blair did as if he wasn’t sure before.

Screamingabdabz · 20/06/2024 22:36

No. He made a reference to Tony Blair’s (a real leader) biological definition. Then went on to talk about how vulnerable and precious and important it was to protect trans people. He made no concession to protecting biological girls and women. It made me feel even worse than before. They’ve clearly not changed their view.

Absolutely.

AnneLovesGilbert · 20/06/2024 22:38

It was Tony who created the legal fiction of sex change wasn’t it. As if they let people change their birth certificate, fucking insanity.

Sarahconnor1 · 20/06/2024 22:41

It's a lot fucking bar, isn't it

Low, low bar

Screamingabdabz · 20/06/2024 22:42

And the follow up question was about how he was going to reconcile different opinions like this, and his great answer was that he was going “to bring the country together.” Oh righto then.

Clown.

She was spooked.

RoseAndGeranium · 20/06/2024 22:48

The question directly referenced Rosie Duffield, whom Starmer reprimanded for liking a tweet saying only a woman has a cervix, and who now cannot attend hustings because of persistent trolling and threats by trans rights activists, and Starmer’s response was to say that he agrees with Tony Blair. Now, either he really doesn’t think much of women and can only acknowledge agreement with men, or the guy just doesn’t know what a cervix is and feels on safer ground talking about vaginas. Pretty sure it’s not option two, but either way it’s incredibly disappointing. He’s winning this election. He doesn’t need the (I suspect quite numerically limited and likely going to the Greens anyway) TRA vote. So why can he still not get his head fully over the parapet to support his own female MP and to be clear that he will act to keep women safe and to protect children from cavalier ‘doctors’ guided by ideology rather than research?

i didn't see it but i read that the question was: does he agree with Rosie Duffield that only women have vaginas, and he then said he agreed with Tony Blair that women have vaginas and then it moved on to Rosie Duffield being toxic?

Was it something like that?

I honestly don't know if i can hold my nose enough to put my cross next to our labour candidate. My current MP (quite a large majority) is a Tory with whom i agree on 2 things. They are important to me -but i don't agree with them on anything else, and i really can't hold my nose enough to vote for them. Lib Dems can get in the sea with the Greens. I'm stuck.

Chonk · 20/06/2024 22:50

Can someone tell me what 'acc to' means please?

Mumteedum · 20/06/2024 22:50

Where does that phrase the most marginalised of communities come from?

I don't understand it. More marginalised than disabled people? More marginalised than the poorest in our society?

I don't like starmer on this at all. He has an irritated tone that verges on 'shut up silly women ".
