Acc to Qu Time special tonight.
So anyone still saying I'm not voting Labour because they 'don't know what a woman is'. It seems they have remembered!
So don't vote for them if you have other reasons but can we put this tired old line to bed now?

Labour certainly aint perfect but can anyone give me ONE example of what the Tories have done for women in the last 14 years?? Just one??? I can give you many examples of how they've made it harder especially if you're not rich...

They can’t. They all claim to be life long lefties but quite happy to sell the whole country down the river. Most of them are on the private school VAT threads banging on about that I suspect..

Lottelenya · 21/06/2024 09:21

EasternStandard · 21/06/2024 04:21

He’s yet to answer a question with any clarity

People fall for it, especially on here some posts rate him so highly

who do you rate then ? Surprise us 😂
Obvs Rosie D is quite happy with Labour and Starmer whatever she says. Haven’t seen her defect to the party that loves women because clearly she knows they’re shysters and liars (proven).

Edited

I don’t really get the love for some politicians, especially Starmer as it seems high on here, he really doesn’t answer

Policies are what I look at, whether they will work economically or practically.

On another note people go on about someone’s father is a toolmaker I think wtf

But it looks like a key consideration for some bizarre reason.

pilates · 21/06/2024 09:30

@Billyandharry

“I for one can't wait to see the back of the shite that have made my life a misery for 14 years.”

Just out of interest how have they made your life a misery?

I have never been more undecided how to vote atm. No one stands out to me.

It’s clear that people thought he was some kind of aristo because of the Sir title so I guess he has to stress what his background was. Much as Sunak and Gove have done.

If you’ve looked at Conservative manifesto you’ll see that it has a huge financial black hole necessitating austerity Mark 2. Some policies are unworkable and clearly not thought out. Some are ridiculous. Is that on your radar ?

Lottelenya · 21/06/2024 09:35

@pilates are you happy that your government is pretty corrupt and dishonest ? For most people that’s an important if not decisive factor. Many life long tories are refusing to vote for them such is their moral decline. I guess thats not so important now looking at how Johnson fared in 2019.

Nousernamesleftatall · 21/06/2024 09:36

Politicians say anything to get elected. If you want war and more of the trans nonsense vote for Labour.

Lottelenya · 21/06/2024 09:37

And if you want more corruption, broken promises and lies vote Tories. Vote Tory vote decline 😂

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 21/06/2024 09:37

I don't care whether Keir Starmer says that women have vaginas or not.

I care about what his party will do to protect women's rights.

Lottelenya · 21/06/2024 09:39

Read the reform or communist party manifesto. They’ll appeal I’m sure. Certainly cannot trust the Tories can you ?

Brefugee · 21/06/2024 09:45

If the communist party are standing in my ward I'll vote for them

Alltheprettyseahorses · 21/06/2024 09:45

Lol, you mean according to Tony not Keir. But definitely not according to Rosie apparently, she's still toxic.

Billyandharry · 21/06/2024 11:22

@pilpilates - I'm wondering if you're taking the piss..but presuming not - 14 years of me and family waiting for various nhs services- from cancer ops to hip replacements to mental health services.
14 yrs of working with vulnerable people who are now left more desperate than ever.
Mortgage gone thru roof- appallingly high turn over of teachers at school and college. Massive impact on kids.
Few times we could have done with police (inc 2 physical assaults ) cops nowhere to be seen
Trying to get bus/train is expensive and a daily nightmare .
Library closure.
Teachers at school calling daughter 'he' as no clear guidelines re what to do/say
Covid lockdown crap whilst they were partying.
Do you need me to go on - there's more but it's fecking depressing quite frankly.

How bloody shameful it is that Starmer acknowledging this is cause for celebration.
We deserve better.

Thanks for saying this 🙄

Slothtoes · 21/06/2024 11:53

DrBlackbird you asked the question which I think proves Starmer is (just like the Tories) trying to appeal to and calm down both sides this clash of rights at the same time, which is not a position with any coherence or moral integrity.

You said as Starmer is a lawyer he knows the importance of precise terminology. So why hasn’t he been saying .1% of legal women have penises? He’d have been technically correct then.

My answer to why Starmer hasn't made that distinction is that if he did, he’d

  • outrage the large proportion of the electorate who are unaware that legally ‘women’ really can have penises and for the past 20 years under GRA. But they would then begin to want something done to stop it. He doesn’t want to go anywhere near that hornets nest.
  • outrage the TRAs by suggesting that ‘legal’ women does not equal the same as ‘women’, which is going to go down very badly with them, and also not unfairly cause people to point to their legal rights under GRA. This would also point the spotlight on the unamended fudge in the EQA which allows conflation of biological sex with gender ie sex stereotypes. Without those amendments made this all just goes in circles and culture war carries on
  • outrage other lawyers and the public by suggesting he doesn’t respect a UK law, the GRA; that explicitly says ‘FOR ALL PURPOSES’ except those very limited and contested exceptions given in GRA… that men can be women and women can be men.

so he needs to propose changing the law but that would have to be inviting difficult and sensitive discussions and getting to that is very difficult for him to row back to. So many golden bridges would have to be offered before EQA amendment or better still GRA repeal. But future governments could start by making much more effortful public engagement around anti sexism, which by definition includes genuine acceptance for anyone who is gender non conforming. Once you see the sexism inherent in gender identity politics you can’t unsee it.

Billyandharry · 21/06/2024 11:57

@activepony I agree! I feel as though the world has gone mad! But seeing people saying on here 'I'm not voting labour because they don't know what a woman is' drives me nuts. Limp line churned out by right wing press.

OP posts:
Billyandharry · 21/06/2024 12:00

And I don't get all the hate for Labour - if in 14 yrs time i.e in 2038 they've f*cked up the UK even more than the conservatives I will hate them too.

If I'm getting my dates right, gender pay gap reporting was brought in under the Tories wasn't it?
Also upskirting laws, using section 35 to block Scottish self ID (that could be for women or not depending on your POV), and equal marriage obviously benefits women (but not just women).
There is also a bunch of stuff in the Tory manifesto about domestic violence. (Equally Labour's has pledges about tackling MVAWG too)

Billyandharry · 21/06/2024 12:16

@Underthinker I work with victims of DV. Things have been made so much worse for rhem - i.e health, housing etc.
It's fine to have DV stuff in your manifesto BUT THEY'VE HAD 14 YEARS TO DO SOMETHING!!!!@

OP posts:
Underthinker · 21/06/2024 12:24

@Billyandharry Yeah I don't disagree with that. I do think Labour are genuinely worse on the gender issue, but I understand that people need to balance this with all the policies they care about.
Also thanks for the work you do.

ActivePeony · 20/06/2024 22:19

Cheer away then at this misogynist fool. He will do nothing for women. Remember this?

Edited

I remember it, who could forget a time when both the PM and the leader of the Opposition wouldn't say that only women have a cervix.Shock I am glad for every politician that does a u-turn on this.

TitusMoan · 20/06/2024 23:03

Good to know! Please tell me what they are…

Are you serious?

According to SKS Corbyn would have been a great PM... but not anymore.

SKS had pledged billions for green projects... but not anymore.

SKS didn't think only women had vaginas... but not anymore.

The list is endless. Completely cannot be trusted. There are other parties out there you do not need to follow tribal instincts .... THINK for yourself.

Incidentally I used to vote Labour until they created a dodgy dossier to convince parliament to go to war and kill hundreds of thousands, the affects of which are still felt today across the world. At that point my scruples lead me to never vote for such a party ever again... they put blood on my hands. Oddly huge numbers have no issue with illegal wars and deaths but hey ho it's the world we live in today no one has any scruples.

BeachRide · 21/06/2024 13:15

I'm guessing he's including neo-vaginas in that category? Never trust a politician.

Zebedee999 · 21/06/2024 13:16

Theunamedcat · 21/06/2024 08:07

But non who have a chance at getting the Conservative government out

Personally I believe if people only ever vote tactically they will never get what they want and the two party system continues with nothing to distinguish them.
It also shows that people do not care about things, for example:

  • The greens get about 10% of the vote so the climate emergency isn't many peoples priority when it comes to voting so is it really an emergency?
  • in 2019 only the lib dems said they'd reverse Brexit but only 10% voted for them, so in reality Brexit isn't the most important issue for most people despite what they may say.
Lib Dems and greens will get the same this time around. I've abandoned the main two as not representing me; I vote for what I believe in since Labour left blood on my hands with their dodgy dossier and illegal war. Vote for what is right for you not war mongers.
Slothtoes · 21/06/2024 13:55

A lot of the time you have to vote according to your constituency makeup just to get the least worst option. Not everyone can vote for exactly what they believe in if for example their top priority is to keep the Tories out in their area to protect what’s left of public services.
