Acc to Qu Time special tonight.
So anyone still saying I'm not voting Labour because they 'don't know what a woman is'. It seems they have remembered!
So don't vote for them if you have other reasons but can we put this tired old line to bed now?

While i agree with some of her points that are well made, bit strange she chose a Tory newspaper to publish article

Do you think The Grauniad would publish it? Do you know how articles get published?

Yes is the pp waiting for The Guardian to be for women?

They’ll be waiting a long time.

No matter it’s being picked up by all outlets now. Bar the above of course

The comment piece by Matthew Syed in the Times on this today really gets it right in my opinion, and addresses really strongly the point someone made earlier in the thread about u-turns. The problem with Keir Starmer isn’t just how useless he’s been on women’s right (though that’s a big deal in itself) and that he has done a few u-turns (which might in moderation be good — u-turns where new evidence or clear signs of popular preference emerge can show flexibility and pragmatism in a good leader). The problem is that Starmer u-turns on just about everything and seems to have no moral or even ideological center. Other than putting VAT on private school fees I do not know of a single policy to which he is actually committed, and I wouldn’t put it past him to drop that either. I do not know anything about what he actually believes, and I am left wondering if he believes in anything at all. As Syed says in his piece, one feels that the second a Twitter storm blows up about anything off Starmer’ll go. I don’t think we live in a time when that is remotely acceptable in a national leader. We need resolve: on Russia, on women’s rights, on food security, on long term energy plans, on climate change. I’m not saying there’s a better option, really. But I do think we need a decent Tory opposition and a quick Tory party rebuild to keep the human weather vane that is Keir Starmer properly scrutinised and challenged.

I agree with vast majority of what JK Rowling said in her article which was very well written (no surprises there as she is an excellent writer).

The only thing i will say is that it is much easier to make a stand of principle on a single issue if you have wealth and power.

Now before anybody jumps on me, I am not blaming JK Rowling for being wealthy as she has worked incredibly hard and is incredibly talented, she has earned her wealth and good fortune.

However, because of this, ultimately it is easier for her to chose to vote/not vote on a single issue, as she will not really be affected by outcome. Even in the event of another 5 years of Tory corruption ,chaos and destruction of our NHS and public services, she will not be impacted like the vast majority of ordinary voters.

So whilst in the main I agree with her view on Labour party/Starmer's mess of entire gender issue, to me it is not the be all and end all in this election.

I, and many others simply cannot afford another 5 years of this corrupt and useless Tory Govt who have basically taken UK to its knees.

However, if Labour do get elected, I think that will be time to really hold them to account over this issue and make it clear things need to change!

The current incarnation of the Tory party is morally disgusting, corrupt and failing. It astonishes me that I’ll be voting for it. But you talk about holding Labour to account after they’re elected.
How?
They are going to win with a huge majority, we can all see that. They’ll be able to do what they like for the 4 years before they need to think about the next election. If the Lib Dems have (relatively speaking) a lot of seats it’ll be worse because they’re even more deeply invested in gender ideology and Labour: this is a party that rejects the findings of the Cass review. So how is Labour going to be held to account? Who — particularly once Labour has stuffed the Lords with their people (which they are clear they will do — is going to challenge them when they bring to Parliament gender ID bills amounting to self ID and ‘conversion therapy’ bans that effectively make explorative therapy for gender distressed teens illegal? No one. This election campaign and this election are our only shot to convince Starmer of the strength of public feeling about this issue, and to put in enough of a genuine opposition to make passing these bills difficult. J.K is on the damn money.

You will find it incredibly hard to do this. They’ll already have mandate.

If there’s no need to listen before your vote is secured, it’s less likely after they have it.

I can understand this is a huge issue for a lot of woman, to me there is no right or wrong on whether this one issue is enough to make you vote a certain way or not to vote at all.

For me personally I just think UK cannot afford another 5 yrs of Tory corruption ,lies, and civil war whilst the UK burns. Even worse if God help us the Tories, DUP & Reform have enough seats to form an electoral pact. While many of you might say this will never happen, i am not 100% and the polls have been wrong before.

However, as i said if this one issue is so important that it alone will decide someone's vote that is fine, and their choice.

This so called super majority is just Tory nonsense and even Labour and some experts don't believe the polling. If Labour win, then if enough woman make it 100% clear that they will judge Starmer/Labour on their actions and will never vote for them again unless their stance changes, he will have no choice in matter.

Even Thatcher had to change her policy on poll tax as millions of people made it clear it had to go.

Nappyvalley15 · 24/06/2024 06:11

Labour is looking to give 16 year olds the vote.

Many women do not care about this issue.

We should all use our votes the way we see fit. But Labour will not need to change their stance on this once they are in power.

You will be up against a large mandate where Labour will think they have a huge majority because people agree with their policies

You can try as you wish after they get in of course but don’t expect it to do more than now - and atm it’s being heard but they might not change anything

I really do not know where some of you were 1997 - 2010. I left the UK in 1998 and I came back in 2016 and I can hand on heart tell you that during this time I used to come back to the UK for visits and I repeatedly said that it had declined at an astonishing rate. This was under Labour. Just things like there was trash everywhere in the streets. Illegal war anyone?

Conservatives have been a shit show too, I am not sticking up for them, nor voting for them.

But Labour, seriously? Anyone would think that they were just about to get in and have a majority because they are good, because they have a great manifesto, because they are proving to be level headed people who are going to turn the country around.

They aren’t. They are only going to get in because the Conservatives fucked it up. They scored constant own goals and the other team got to win by default.

Labour getting in will actually make things worse in some areas. As soon as they get in we will have to endure louder trans activist voices because they will feel they have the support of Labour. Putin will be laughing his arse off at having anti nuclear politicians running the country. We will have to listen to Diane Abbot and worst of all Tony Blair will come out of the woodwork and think he is President of the UK.

In 1997 the headlines said “Can the last person to leave the UK turn out the lights”. Labour will get in, everyone will think it is great for 2 weeks, then the reality will hit that we will have to deal with the bizarre bollocks that they will start coming out with.
