REFORM Party Questions.....

Modernfamily2011 · 17/06/2024 12:19

Genuine question here, I do not want to start arguments but i'm honestly curious as to the hate for the Reform party....... I will be the first to admit that politics is absolutely not my strong point but this Election and for the last few months I have been doing a lot of research

I will not be voting Conservatives but Labour don't fill me with any confidence either, the Reform party Manifesto actually looks good, I would love the minimum income tax rate to be raised, Stamp Duty threshold to be higher, NHS change, energy bills to be lower etc

Am I just a little naïve and is this just a case of Farage talking nonsense? A bit like the Brexit debacle? Surely if these policies could have been implemented then they would have and where would the money come from? Farage is an excellent speaker and he knows how to play the public, there is no doubt about that

I would love some insight from those who know a little more about politics than me!

I agree with you. People are scared to say they support him for some reason. I'm voting for him. We've tried the rest, they don't work. I'm really scared of a Labour/Lib Dem coalition. That would be absolutely horrendous for women's rights and childrens' safety as well as everything else.

You’re happy to vote for a party on the extreme right with racist views?

Justkeepswiimming · 17/06/2024 18:42

Because they are racists and fascists. Seems a pretty strong reason to me. If you look any notice of what they were actually saying, then most people would see this.

Ratsoffasinkingsauage · 17/06/2024 18:41

Nigel Farage has very openly said that he doesn’t believe in maternity pay. He’s a misogynistic prick.

do you have a link for that please?

Have you read the parts of Reform's contract about reducing employment rights and leaving the ECHR?

What would that do for women's rights and childrens' safety?

You're considering voting Reform because you think they're the best option for women's and children's safety?

Crikeyalmighty · 17/06/2024 18:45

@marciaa Farage was an admirer of the Nazis and if you think he's into women's rights you might have a shock -

CassieMaddox · 17/06/2024 18:46

Maybe read this article. He's not a nice man.
Boris Johnson shows what happens when you vote for liars with charisma.

JassyRadlett · 17/06/2024 18:15

It's curious. When people do try to debate the substance it's ignored in favour of claims about the inability of some to even attempt reasonable debate.

Is there a reason that you're not encouraging the behaviour you say you want to see by engaging in a discussion on Reform policies?

I agree with this.people have given facts and attempted to debate the issues. Not least of which is the unfunded, "not a manifesto". No one has answered that question. And Farage also refuses answer those questions

SaltBlossom · 17/06/2024 18:48

ByJoyousAquaOtter · 17/06/2024 18:04

Where can I find out what constituencies they’re standing in?

I'm afraid I can't say due to pre-election rules

chocolateisavegetable · 17/06/2024 18:48

If you want to know whether Reform are a good option for women - check out quotes from Ian Gribbin.

(spoiler alert - he thinks we’re all spongers)

Ratsoffasinkingsauage · 17/06/2024 18:48

@marciaa When he was the leader of UKIP they campaigned on a platform of scrapping maternity pay. He also gave an interview where he said that mother were worth less to employers and there was nothing that should be done about it.

He’s a misogynist.

On Friday on the radio Farage was full of I will tell people the facts, and then asked why he wouldn't tell people the facts about climate change and the damage it is doing and the immigration it is causing, he couldn't answer.

Summernightsinthe21stcentury · 17/06/2024 18:50

I am bewildered that he gets the traction here.

Unbelievable. He is a horror show, he hardly turned up at the EU when he was an MEP, and was fined for misusing funds allotted to him:-

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2018/jan/12/nigel-farage-eu-salary-docked-claim-misspent-public-funds

Just because he says we need to reduce immigration does not make him the panacea for all ills.

And to be frank, we need immigration to fund our ageing population, to work in our essential services etc etc.

Nigel Farage has MEP salary docked to recoup misspent EU funds

Exclusive: former Ukip leader will lose £35,500 in total – the amount he paid assistant who is believed to have not been working on EU matters

Interestingly the Reform LTD "contract" says that there will be net zero unessential migration.
That means they are acknowledging that migration will continue at the current levels.

@JassyRadlett

As demonstrated above, there is absolutely no point debating it on here, as it will just be a barrage of abuse. Seriously, I don't even know why I commented on this thread, it's a waste of time. No decent debate to be had. Just shot down in flames and called racist. But as I said I will be voting reform and I have absolutely no wish to call names and be abusive to those who wish to vote otherwise.

I keep seeing people saying this, so there’s a lot of people who agree with you! But I don’t understand why you believe that Reform would protect women and children, given that they’re planning on pulling us out of the EHCR and scrapping the equalities act. This is fucking terrifying and will leave women with zero protections. We’ll potentially be back to working for half a wage and being beaten by our husbands without these protections. Am I missing something? Please could someone explain it to me?

Summernightsinthe21stcentury · 17/06/2024 18:53

@Thingscanonlygetsunk
So there is no real point to them then.
I won't read the manifesto, they are extremists in my opinion. We have somebody standing in our constituency, and the comments on the local FB page are horrifying 😮
It's like Brexit all over agin.

Well I tried to engage with you politely and on the substance of the points you'd made, in attempt to understand your point of view.

I have also set out a number of reasons I think his manifesto is dishonest and actively misleading, and I'm happy to debate those points.

I'd be over the moon to get into a discussion on domestic NHS recruitment, alternatives to marginal energy pricing or whether even 100% tariffs on export of the remaining North Sea resources would yield even marginal energy security improvements. Very glad to get into public sector funding cuts, the ECHR or QE interest rates. Or, as I'd already asked, what makes a good LOTO in your eyes.

If you never engage with people who are trying to discuss the issues in good faith, you will keep getting the same result.

All I want as an ordinary person in Britain is a political party that is decent and honest and genuinely cares about the people in the country. I want to see a government that treats people with compassion and kindness and looks after those that are poor or disabled and vulnerable and know that the sick and elderly are treated with dignity and respect. I want a government that actively tries to make life better for everyone and ensures that everyone has a place they can call home and enough to feed themselves and their children. I want to know that British people can be proud to live in a country that has decency and compassion at its heart.

^^This. 100% this

They are not a party but a company. They posted £1m debt at companies house in their accounts.
The party leader is appointed not elected. They dont have members.

The question you should be asking is who is funding their risk and why?

I won't shout at you or call you names or be rude or nasty to you. I just want people to stop and have a really good look at who and what they would be voting for by voting reform. I am worried by the misogyny and hatred this party has demonstrated against women or anyone who is elderly or sick or vulnerable.

Crikeyalmighty · 17/06/2024 19:03

@Summernightsinthe21stcentury as the government discovered post Brexit- problem is a great many of them'buggered off' after being made to feel unwelcome- we met plenty in Copenhagen- where only speaking English wasn't a problem - and they realised better lifestyle, better wages. Same was true in Sweden and Netherlands. I'm very concerned with Reform (not that I think they would be in power but I do think they will be some kind of merger with the Tory's post election ) that their idea is going to be 'force' used to make people work or no benefits/ on the streets -and whilst yes that includes some idle devils- it may well include lots of people who are pretty unwell etc - I cannot see how otherwise they would cope with zero immigration- (I am not anti immigration but do think it needs to be sensible and balanced , as it was more so when in EU ) and how does he propose to actually stop illegal immigration via the boats etc as the Tory's haven't managed it- ? Does he plan on a team of crack marksmen, shooting them down on the shores ?? It's all dog whistle stuff designed to appeal to 'pub politics' Presumably like Tory's he would leave ECHR in order to have some very dubious policies and that then affects other things- not just immigration-
