Yet to see a single Conservative sign

Anyone else live in traditional rural Conservative stronghold who have yet to see any Conservative signs out.

I live in a rural area where the vote is often split between Tory or Lib Dem. Current sitting MP is a Conservative. The local farmers usually put out huge Conservative signs in their fields around election time. I've yet to see any. Seen lots of the usual Lib Dem signs, and quite a few Greens. But no Conservative at all is really unusual.

I also saw a poll from the Farmers Weekly if 13,000 which suggests the Conservatives will only get 5% of their vote, lib dems 21%, reform 13% and Labour an enormous 61%. I'm very shocked by this and I would say this is pretty damning for the Conservatives, who often can rely on the vote from the Farming community!

Tbh what a gross waste of paper, cardboard etc. How cna they claim to waht to be environmentally friendly then print masses of signs. It's like when khan was being elected for mayor this year at our train station people handing out leaflets on voting day with him and a big statement saying he is environmentally friendly...the irony...and u go to the platform and they are in the bin

I’ve seen this one!

Yet to see a single Conservative sign

Labour canvassers don't go round attacking people's homes - what utter rubbish!

Acts of vandalism have happened to Labour candidates and supporters as much as anyone else.

DreamLengths · 18/06/2024 20:21

I'm in a rural Scottish constituency that will either go to the Tories or SNP. Only seen SNP signs.

Ticktockk · 18/06/2024 20:25

Same where I am. It’s been a conservative stronghold for many many years and despite my political opinions, I have to say our MP is decent. But my friend and I were commenting on the lack of Tory signs. Lots for the greens, a handful for Lib Dems and I’ve seen one Labour sign.
Either they don’t bother as it’s almost a done deal here, or the Tory supporters are just too embarrassed!

What else would you call someone cosying up to Steve Bannon and Trump?

Truss was at Nigel Farage's birthday party with Andrea Jenkyns watching a video message from Trump.

Andrea Jenkyns even had a photo of Nigel Farage on her canvassing leaflet.

A billionaire who gave the Conservatives £500,000 before the last general election has told the BBC he will vote Labour for the first time in his life next month.

Blimey.

No wonder the Tory campaign is strapped for cash.

Iggleoggledaffy · 18/06/2024 20:53

Tory signs now emerging in my area, although significantly fewer than in previous years . Candidate (sitting mp) has commented lots have been defaced too.

Gladanotthwrteamonesomething · 18/06/2024 20:55

Local farmers have them out here. They want to keep the range of grants for free fencing, money to leave land bare, convert barns to lets etc. . Can't give that free money up. Some of the richest farms claim huge amounts in grants.

TheChosenTwo · 18/06/2024 20:58

We have historically been a conservative borough until the most recent locals where it made the news for turning red for the first
time in a hundred years or something like that!
I’m used to seeing wall to wall blue signs up in the lead up to an election but not seen one at all.
Loads of Labour and quite a few Lib Dem.

I think in rural areas there is a big move away from the Tories, Farmers Weekly showed a big shift to Labour among their Twitter followers

That might change when they click that Labour haven’t ruled out getting rid of APR and BPR!

GlomOfNit · 18/06/2024 23:58

I live in a semi rural village in a prosperous southern county in England. The village is True Blue (for general elections anyway - for local council it's recently gone Green!). There are, as the OP says, usually huge banners draped over field fences by local landowners and farmers.

Nothing.

I have seen ONE Tory poster, a small one in someone's window, in our local town (which is now not Tory heartland). The Lib Dems have their usual suspiciously dense scattering of orange placards and now there are a fair number for Labour. A local campaigner for Labour says they're having to go round and replace a lot of those as they keep being removed. We draw our own conclusions there...

Paul2023 · 19/06/2024 06:47

I’ve not seen any vote Conservative signs anywhere , even here in the south east , in strong Tory safe seats.

I’ve not seen a single Tory canvasser either. I think they’ve all but given up.

Agreed!

I have only received election leaflets from Labour. The majority of the signs I have seen are labour & a couple of Lib Dem/Greens placards.

This is a SE coastal town and our MP used to be a conservative but then defected to Labour. The council is also nowLabour since the last local election.

So now I think they have given up on us entirely after that...

mummysherlock · 19/06/2024 14:05

I live in a SW constituency consisting mostly of market towns and villages. We have had a Tory MP since forever and Lib Dem’s normally come 2nd. So far I have seen 2 large Tory signs in fields, several Lib Dem signs on houses in the towns, and a large Reform flag in someone’s front garden in one of the villages but nothing for labour or Greens

skyeisthelimit · 19/06/2024 14:08

SW here and have only seen a couple of Tory posters.

Rishi Sunak and David Cameron visited our locality yesterday after arriving on separate trains with huge security each. They talked to farmers and fisherman and were pictured with the local (female) Tory MP.

I hope that they went on lots of pothole filled roads, so they can see what we have to drive on..

I have had leaflets from Lib Dem and Conservatives (the MP herself delivered them in my road). Lib Dem make it clear that a vote for Labour is a wasted vote (Labour will never get in here but Lib Dem has in the past).

mummysherlock · 19/06/2024 14:13

In terms of canvassing we have had a knock on the door from the Lib Dem candidate, and a leaflet from the Tory candidate. The labour candidate has been out and about in the town centres. She is an ex London councillor and judging by what I have seen on local spotted pages on FB many people are concerned that she is not a local person and wouldn’t be best placed to deal with issues that affect more rural communities, some previous Tory voters saying they are switching to Reform.

DistinguishedSocialCommentator · 19/06/2024 14:38

Where we live, people are on the whole, Tory. We've always lived in a Trot area and rarely seen a poster, etc as most Tories are reserved people, IMO

Never seen a Labour poster other than my days at work, when on social housing estates and the odd house in an ordinary street.

Posters or no posters, we shall see if Sunak is back in number 10 with more of the same tripe!!

MadameMassiveSalad · 19/06/2024 14:42

Shady secret tories.

SnapdragonToadflax · 19/06/2024 15:25

We had a Tory leaflet today, first one after three or four Lib Dem ones.

It's green... 😂

Pigeonqueen · 19/06/2024 15:43

I live in South Norfolk and it’s all very Tory here. Not seen a single sign. It’s like a dirty little secret 🤫 🤣

Zonder · 19/06/2024 15:49

I saw one today! A tiny little A4 Tory poster on a tree at the edge of a field along an A road where you used to see several massive Tory billboards.

CadyEastman · 19/06/2024 15:59

Sounds like I live in a similar sort of area abd I've not seen a single one either.

Only had one candidate at the door and she was from the Women's Equality Party.

AliceMcK · 19/06/2024 16:01

Also live in a Tory stronghold and admit I hadn’t thought about it, but I don’t think I’ve seen one sign anywhere for anyone. Even our neighbours who cover everything in Labour signs haven’t done.

I know there has been a lot of love lost for the sitting Tory MP. But DH & I agree we don’t think it will change due to the community the electorate covers. Too many staunch tories far outweigh any other voters.
