Yet to see a single Conservative sign

Anyone else live in traditional rural Conservative stronghold who have yet to see any Conservative signs out.

I live in a rural area where the vote is often split between Tory or Lib Dem. Current sitting MP is a Conservative. The local farmers usually put out huge Conservative signs in their fields around election time. I've yet to see any. Seen lots of the usual Lib Dem signs, and quite a few Greens. But no Conservative at all is really unusual.

I also saw a poll from the Farmers Weekly if 13,000 which suggests the Conservatives will only get 5% of their vote, lib dems 21%, reform 13% and Labour an enormous 61%. I'm very shocked by this and I would say this is pretty damning for the Conservatives, who often can rely on the vote from the Farming community!

North. Labour stronghold and lots of labour window signs in people’s windows. Not surprising! The Tories posted out a questionnaire asking about their policies on national service etc and who you were most likely to vote for.
In the rural parts a big Tory sign usually goes up in the local land owner’s field. It’s not there yet…

muckymayhem · 16/06/2024 22:01

Haven't seen anything here in Labour stronghold. No canvassers / no leaflet drops. There have been a few local hustings but not advertised to wider general public. One is happening in constituency but hosted by a ward councillor and only for residents of that ward. Online there is plenty of 'debate' but just people sounding off really. In a nearby town I drive through there are lots of "Lib Dems winning here" signs.

Triestre · 16/06/2024 22:02

I have not. I have never seen more than Labour and Lib Dem posters who btw never have won around here 😂

rockstarshoes · 16/06/2024 22:03

So Rob Butler is my MP, in what has always been a Tory seat

I was talking to someone yesterday who was at the Hustings last week & apparently he got a right roasting - to the point they aren't expecting him to attend any of the others!

His leaflet - which I have only seen a photo of doesn't even mention that he's in the Conservative Party!

I think in rural areas there is a big move away from the Tories, Farmers Weekly showed a big shift to Labour among their Twitter followers

I live in a traditional Tory stronghold. I've seen a couple of big signs in fields. Liz Truss is our neighbouring constituency's MP and her signs have all been vandalised, as has our twit of a Tory's big sign in a local field. I've seen several Labour boards in gardens when for 15yrs, I've never seen a single one for previous elections. It's a really strange sight for us.

I do wonder if it will translate to votes on the day. Usually Labour come third with a paltry handful of votes after Cons, then whatever UKIP/Reform nonsense is available. I fear that the racist, stalwart Tories here will just vote Reform instead.

You must live close to me.

The only one I have seen had been changed (rather amusingly given her recent trip to the US) to LIZ TRUMP.

I still can't believe they actually let her run. It's been a conservative safe seat since the 60s, but currently predicted to go to Labour.

AlltheFs · 16/06/2024 22:31

The only signs out here are Conservative, in a very safe Conservative seat although the boundary shifted recently (but if anything it makes it safer).

We won’t see anything from the others, they can’t be arsed.

RoobarbAndMustard · 16/06/2024 22:38

This made me laugh.😆

No. I'm saying that the Labour Party attracts all the crazies and weirdos that think it's normal to vandalise property, verbally abuse and physically assault people because of their political beliefs. I, personally, have witnessed these crazy people in action. People on this thread have been boasting about vandalism and excusing verbal abuse / threatening behaviour, so it's not like these people are a vanishing minority.

I'm saying that's probably one of the reasons you're not seeing many people publicly advertise their support for the Conservatives.

In fairness, it seems the Tory party attracts all the crazies and weirdos that think it's normal to trash a country on a national level. Poo in our waters is pretty high level vandalism for a start.

Okko · 16/06/2024 23:45

I live in Liz Truss’ constituency, I’ve seen quite a few signs supporting her but some have been defaced shortly after being put up.

She had a massive majority last time and the other parties didn’t really bother but there’s some decent candidates being fielded this time.

Okko · 16/06/2024 23:48

I must read the previous posts before posting - the image in the one above is about a mile from me, it was defaced less than 12 hours after being put up!

Your theory doesn't explain why there are far less Tory signs and placards than there used to be. If that is one of the reasons, as you claim, then something about either the Tories and/or Labour or just the supporters of either or both must have changed to explain the new behaviours. And you acknowledge that that you are only suggesting one of the reasons, what do you think the other reasons might be?

Freysimo · 17/06/2024 08:09

I live in a Welsh constituency that's been Conservative for over 20 years. It's predicted to go Labour but there's little support locally as he's one of Keir's parachute candidates. I'm looking forward to his views on gender self ID if he calls here.

Onedaystronger · 18/06/2024 09:44

I'm in the east midlands. Only Tory signs I've seen are in fields belonging to local landowner- not a farmer, they have a huge estate with land all over the area and a stately home. They recently removed access to permissive footpaths on their land after 30 years of public use (which is permitted but took them a lot of legal wrangling etc.) which was huge shame. Now only horse riders can use them, if they pay to join their scheme. They also breed birds for shooting events which they hold on their land, the birds lucky enough not to get shot are left to starve after the season is over. They set traps on their land to reduce predators harming their bred birds. These have caught hares, foxes etc.. Plenty of foxhunting too.

Given how much land they have spread out all over the place this means there are quite a lot of signs in the area. I'm tempted to remove / deface them but of course wouldn't. Wonder what the penalty is?

All feels very predictable and stereotypical. My main frustration is that unless you know the situation (which I do due to my job) it looks like lots of farmers in the area support conservatives as they are dotted about on the land of this estate for miles and miles.

crackofdoom · 18/06/2024 12:52

The first Conservative sign has just gone up in our village. I do have to wonder why they think it's still a good idea to have photographs of the candidates? Must remember to order some self adhesive googly eyes tonight.

mewkins · 18/06/2024 17:10

Home counties Tory seat since time began. No Tory signs up, just Labour. I think I've had most leaflets through though including a Green one yesterday. Green does well in local elections here but I can't call which way it will go on 4th July.

TheDogsMother · 18/06/2024 17:27

I live in a rural area in the south east which has been Tory since the dawn of time. There aren't many party posters up but the majority that I've seen are Lib Dem.

The delightful David T C Davies isn’t happy that his signs are being taken down https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/tory-minister-hits-out-after-33056336

He’s a really good guy. That’s sad. Sad to see that him and Truss, two Tories who really helped to move the GC needle are the examples in this thread. 😢

They’re both so far right they’re out of sight. Fortunately there’s a really good chance they’ll be consigned to oblivion. The independent standing against Truss is a highly respected traditional Tory and it’s highly likely he’ll clean up.

“Far right” 🙄

Lib Dems signs here (and man are they big and bright)! One sorry looking little Labour sign. I think I saw a Green Party one...
We are currently a Labour borough.

As far as I’m aware, it’s not considered to be a given that the independent standing against Truss (Bagge) will win. Labour are fielding what is considered to be a good candidate and Reform too. In the past, the other parties didn’t really bother due the massive Tory majority but it’s become more interesting this time due to the dislike of Truss. I really want her to go and the tactical voting sites are saying to go for Labour but I’m not sure that they’re taking Bagge properly into account.

What else would you call someone cosying up to Steve Bannon and Trump?

hiredandsqueak · 18/06/2024 19:18

None here either. Tory held but usually Labour. I am getting on average three Tory flyers a day though through the post and hand delivered.
