Yet to see a single Conservative sign

Anyone else live in traditional rural Conservative stronghold who have yet to see any Conservative signs out.

I live in a rural area where the vote is often split between Tory or Lib Dem. Current sitting MP is a Conservative. The local farmers usually put out huge Conservative signs in their fields around election time. I've yet to see any. Seen lots of the usual Lib Dem signs, and quite a few Greens. But no Conservative at all is really unusual.

I also saw a poll from the Farmers Weekly if 13,000 which suggests the Conservatives will only get 5% of their vote, lib dems 21%, reform 13% and Labour an enormous 61%. I'm very shocked by this and I would say this is pretty damning for the Conservatives, who often can rely on the vote from the Farming community!

I’m yet to see any sign. Give them their due, the Conservative candidate is the only one who has bothered to to show their face in the village.

devildeepbluesea · 16/06/2024 18:54

I’ve been thinking exactly the same thing. My area typically Tory (although we are now in a different, Labour constituency). Long may it continue, I havent even seen any signs on the Tory farmland.

Very traditionally Tory area here (20k majority), large town with quite a lot of rural areas, and I haven't seen any Tory signs. Lib Dems do well in local elections and have masses of signs around. Haven't had any Tory pamphlets but I email her regularly to complain so she might just be avoiding me 😂 She is very visible recently, unlike normal.

I do think there's probably an element of Tories being ashamed or just not wanting the possible aggro from having a sign up. Much as I would love us to go Lib Dem, I think it's unlikely.

Wondering if you live where i do!

I’m in a Tory town in the SW, only seen Labour, even in the posh bits!

That’s because they are rich enough to be able to afford all the tax rises that Labour will introduce once they get in. Lucky them 🙄

Floralnomad · 16/06/2024 19:00

I live in a conservative area , rural and towns constituency and I’ve seen loads of conservative signs and had 3 conservative leaflet drops and none from anyone else . Reform would be the opposition here I think .

Summernightsinthe21stcentury · 16/06/2024 19:02

We got a lib dem leaflet through the door today for a neighbouring constituency.
That's really helpful!

Lily193 · 16/06/2024 19:03

Lots of Conservative posters here but it's a very safe seat so not unexpected.

🤣

I was once waking in the street near a Conservative Party office. As some people left, a group of women starting shouting abuse and ranting about cocktail parties (!?!?). I then heard them discussing how they should slash their car tyres.

There are a lot of crazies that support Labour / hate the Tories.

That would be related to Boris and his lockdown parties. And therefore valid. (Slashing people's tires would not be). I don't think many Tory voters realise the depths of anger against the Tories that's out there.

Seen loads today.
Beeb to Knaresborough.. York... Ripon..
Helmsley.

I live in a rural Tory constituency in Northumberland, it's never been a Labour seat in it's history.

Due to the boundary changes now including areas more likely to vote Labour it would have been interesting to see what changes would have resulted just from that alone. Now with the current sh1t show of a Government I think they've no chance getting back in in this area, thankfully!

There's a lot of visible support for the Labour Party locally, banners up and such. The Labour candidate Joe Morris has also been very visible on his campaign, along with Angela Raynor last week and David Miliband over the weekend, I think they're targeting this area hard!

Guy Opperman on the other hand is nowhere to be seen!

This was years before the Brexit vote, so nothing to do with Boris or lockdown parties.

Startingagainandagain · 16/06/2024 19:23

Same here.

I did not even get any leaflet for the Conservative party in the post although we had a conservative MP for years who only just recently defected to Labour....

In my small town I have seen placards in people's gardens/driveway for Labour, Lib Dems and the Greens.

Not a single Tory sign in sight.

I just had a labour placard placed in my garden today and put a poster in my window :).

All the signs on my streets in people's front gardens are for Labour, many were put up by households with elderly people. This is the SE in a coastal town, so theoretically prime territory for 'small boats' rhetoric but no one is buying that anymore...

The Tories are finished.

Feckedupbundle · 16/06/2024 19:25

We are farmers,we had an email from Rishi back in February when all the farmer protests were kicking off.I think he was worried .We are in a Conservative stronghold, never get doorknockers from any of the parties, and the only leaflets we've had are from Reform and the Conservative MP. I've seen no banners or signs from any of the parties so far.

pointythings · 16/06/2024 19:25

ThisOldThang · 16/06/2024 19:22

This was years before the Brexit vote, so nothing to do with Boris or lockdown parties.

Then how is it relevant to this year's elections? Unless of course it's another boring attack on Labour supporters and how awful they are. Yawn, seen it all before.

BIossomtoes · 16/06/2024 19:26

Nothing here in Tory heartland. I think they’ve given up.

ThisOldThang · 16/06/2024 19:26

It's relevant to my earlier comment that you probably don't see many Conservative posters/placards because people are probably afraid of encountering people like you.

DramaLlamaBangBang · 16/06/2024 19:34

I live in a current Tory seat. There are loads of Labour signs in people's gardens, no Conservative, considering thete were at least 5 in my road alone in 2019. I did have a Tory canvassers come to my door. I took his leaflet because DS wants to do Politics A Level in September, so I'm talking to him about elections. He said ' can I count on your vote?' I said ' no, I'm afraid not!' He didn't sound surprised. He did have a hopeful look on his face when I took his leaflet! I've had Reform and loads of Labour leaflets. None from the Greens who are standing too. Because we are marginal I think they are just saving resources and not bothering here.

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 16/06/2024 19:35

I'm in what's been a Tory safe seat for decades. There are usually loads of Vote Conservative signs but this time I've only seen one, but, for the first time, I've seen loads of Vote Lib Dem signs. We've had loads of leaflets too from them saying they're the only party who can defeat the Tories here. We've also had a leaflet from our Conservative MP which was obviously aimed at the young voters because it looked like a comic, to the point that my Tory-voting friend chucked it out because she didn't realise it was from him. Labour have always come a long way behind the Tories here. I'm wondering how well Reform will do here. One previously Tory-voting friend has told me she'll be voting for them.

ohtowinthelottery · 16/06/2024 19:49

We live in a rural area which had been a Tory seat since the dawn of time up until 2021, when, after the resignation of the Tory MP the seat went to the Lib Dems, overturning a massive majority.
The Lib Dems worked really hard in the run up to that election, knocking on doors, leaflets dropping through letter boxes on an almost daily basis and frankly people had had enough of the Tories here even back then.
The Lib Dem candidate is standing again and frankly, she's done more for our area in 3 years than the Tories did in the last 20!

DH has remarked that in driving around there has been very little evidence of any Tory support, even on farms where Tory banners had been abundant in past elections. Our Tory candidate has shoe horned himself into our area as his current seat went in the boundary changes. I honestly hope that the appetite for ousting the Tories that was present here in 2021 remains in this election and that we keep our Lib Dem MP even if that is out of kilter with the national picture.

MrsRandallFraser · 16/06/2024 19:49

Not a rural one but SW town. Conservative for a good few years now, Lib Dems are the only party that could come close to taking the seat. There are Lib Dem signs everywhere (including, very satisfyingly, on the road where the current Tory MP lives). We've had leaflets from both the Lib Dems and the Tories but nothing from Labour. I don't blame them, I think they know it's a waste of time and money. I can easily see a Lib Dem gain here, thank god.

TeamPolin · 16/06/2024 19:51

I'm in a Tory stronghold and have only seen 1 Tory sign so far. There are faint mutterings that our MP is not as safe as previously thought... Grin

TattieBap · 16/06/2024 19:54

House in our village has one.

DH put one in a skip a couple houses down, a new one appeared and the local teens changed it to Vote Nonces. 🙌

Dibblydoodahdah · 16/06/2024 19:57

Yes, I have seen some Tory signs. I’ve received a Tory leaflet but no others. In the ten years that I have lived here, no Labour candidate in either a local or general election has ever bothered to knock on my door. I wish they would as I’m up for a good argument. I’m particulary pissed off about the fact that most of their campaigning revolves around telling people not to vote for the Lib Dem candidate.

Churchview · 16/06/2024 19:59

Having spent a couple of weeks touring through Dorset and Somerset I didn't see one Tory poster at a farm gate. Normally they're everywhere. I saw lots of farms with Vote Green posters though.

Here in my part of the SW we've had the same Tory MP since 1992. Haven't seen one Tory poster in the area but we had a huge poster up a couple of months ago that said 'This is election year. Please don't vote Conservative.' I never thought I'd see it here.
