General election 2024

Nope to labour

I was considering voting for Labour, but their manifesto proposal to change the VAT on private education has made me reconsider. I'm not financially well-off, just about managing, and I took on two jobs to afford the fees for my son’s private grammar school. Despite our efforts, he couldn’t get a place in any of the five local state schools due to oversubscription, and our appeal was unsuccessful. We were instead assigned a school outside our area with a poor Ofsted report. Faced with this choice, I opted to work harder to provide him with a better education privately. The proposed VAT changes would make it even harder for families like mine to manage.

For me, Labour doesn’t seem to understand that not everyone who sends their children to private school is wealthy. I don’t like the Tories either, but I would rather vote for them than for Labour.

@GoodAfternoonGoodEveningAndGoodnight by your definition you are GC. Do you align with the far right?

GoodAfternoonGoodEveningAndGoodnight · 16/06/2024 20:33

Are we just pretending that far right views on trans people don't align with "GC" views now?
Yes, you're right, far right views famously have "hug a trans person day" and is perfectly fine with trans people going about their lives being trans in public/just doing their job whilst publicly trans.
🙄 👍

" Many of these men ARE fetishistic and ALL of the men who barge in to women's spaces are entitled."

See again there, you undermine yourself with your bigotry, it isn't about women and girls it's about you.

Your little PS? I'm not slinging, it's not to try to discredit you ( you've done that yourself) but just stating "facts", I thought that was your thing?

*Translation - 'my friend's child saw a transwoman in a swimsuit'. Shock! Horror!

Is that the only real life encounter that you or someone you know has had with a transwoman? 😂 Reminds me of racists swapping stories about an Asian bloke looking at their niece on the bus...*

It's wasn't just a trans woman in a swimsuit situation. No I've had others, if you read my posts properly (by your other posts I would say not). So no Asian bloke has ever committed any offences or acted inappropriately?! How wild. Stretching a bit there are you not but all round unsurprising.

"It's wasn't just a trans woman in a swimsuit situation."

So what happened?

"So no Asian bloke has ever committed any offences or acted inappropriately?! How wild. Stretching a bit there are you not but all round unsurprising."

I think you've missed the point. The point I was making was that if you've been radicalised (as you have) then 1. it usually evidences itself in a rabid preoccupation with a minority group (in the case of racists it'll be people from ethnic minorities, and in your case it'll be transgender people, or in the case of homophobes it'll be gay people) 2. that you can only discuss this minority group in negative terms and frame their existence as a threat to mainstream society and 3. that you dehumanise the minority group by mocking them and often sexualising them in really unpleasant ways.

We've seen it all before.

To answer yours, no.

Now can you see that there's a difference between "just valid concerns, honest?" and outright prejudice and /or discrimination?

It’s a bonkers policy. But this is all they have. There’s no money to replicate the Blair years, or anything close. So this is the red meat they have to throw to the far left. This and gender ideology insanity.

The far left? As for money being available, of course there is, we're a currency printing nation. But the VAT move is a populist move, the majority agree with it yet even more do with a wealth tax (which would raise considerably more revenue & effect real change) but they're not looking at that.

Labour are a neoliberal party that in reality offers managed decline, like the Tories, LibDems & Reform. If they wanted to appeal to the left, they wouldn't be expelling & hounding them out of the party.

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 16/06/2024 20:39

I work in private and I can categorically tell you that it’s not just the parents paying for these private schools, the grandparents are paying and some are ‘company packages’ where the company pays for their employees child to go to private school. They’ll not only alienate the parents who can afford it, but grandparents who want to pay for the grandkids education and companies who have these packages will no longer be able to offer this to their employees.
I’m all for taxation, but this stance is a crock of shit!

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 16/06/2024 20:44

How is realising basic fact and biology, and recognising the importance of sex over gender radicalised?! I don't care where they are transgender, white, Asian, or have never committed a crime in their lives. I believe MEN shouldn't be in certain spaces/sports designated as women only. I include my lovely (male) partner and all the male members of my family, as I realise their presence may make females uncomfortable. Ill intentions or not. It's tiring constantly having to point this out.

You are determined to scream bigot and transphobe at any opportunity. I think the radicalisation is on you.

The average private school charges 15K a year.

So a 20% VAT imposition will cost parents an extra £6 a day.

And you're saying that this is completely untenable despite the majority of parents with children in fee paying schools being in the top 5% of earners, and that despite private schools having half the number of pupils per teacher as states schools, it's completely impossible for private schools to cut their costs (and thereby fees) by increasing class sizes as state schools have had to do to deal with funding challenges?

Cutting fees would be a way of absorbing the financial pressure on parents created by VAT imposition.

State schools are expected to provide a good education for £7.5K per child per year, but a private school couldn't possibly be expected to provide a decent education for £12750 per child?

GoodAfternoonGoodEveningAndGoodnight · 16/06/2024 20:51

Your points are laughable.

AS it is that you, and your chums have spent years here, generating millions of words in posts.

And achieved nothing.

No one cares.

Why?

Because so few people are impacted, and the way that you discuss trans people makes people realise that you are bigoted and your opinions aren't worth listening to.

Yo don't really care about women and children, that has been proved beyond a doubt and as another poster has shown many of the things you raise as "issues" are misconceptions or misunderstandings that you have bent out of shape to fit the narrative you want.

I'm not screaming 'bigot' I'm pointing out that you're a bigot.

Because you are.

You're completely incapable of hearing or understanding transgender people.

GoodAfternoonGoodEveningAndGoodnight · 16/06/2024 21:01

I think there's truth in this

Total derision for things like Trans Remembrance Day as one example and lots of the women's version of "What About International Mens Day?!"
It's not all about concerns at all and does just come across as pure bigotry/prejudice which wakes people up to it when they see it.

Aladdinzane · 16/06/2024 21:01

They totally have exposed themselves here.

It has been very enlightening to watch the complete breakdown of the façade.

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 16/06/2024 21:04

No, I'm not. It's just lazy. Why do I need to hear or understand trans people. I only care about men not being in women's spaces, and that includes men who 'identify' as women. Of course trans people should be treated with respect and dignity, just like everyone else but they have the same rights as everyone else. They don't get to have special rights to be where they shouldn't. They are not a special caste.

If that makes me a bigot in your eyes then I really don't give a fuck.

It's been eventually boring to watch people just copy and paste their posts when they've run out of arguments and resort to 'you just hate trans people you big bigots'. Have a day off.

Wow.
Says it all. (and I'm not even trans)
I for one don't keep myself in an echo chamber and listen to others points of views
I might not agree with you on things, but don't just go "why should I care about your issues?"

GoodAfternoonGoodEveningAndGoodnight · 16/06/2024 21:09

@GoodAfternoonGoodEveningAndGoodnight

It has totally slipped, they have been entirely revealed ( as I said before everyone is realising the Emperor is naked).

It also reveals just how morally repugnant they are, they use women and girls safety as a smoke screen for their own prejudices.

Just like Tommy Robinson using the safety of women and girls to attack Muslim people.

And then they wonder why no one listens to them
