Nope to labour

I was considering voting for Labour, but their manifesto proposal to change the VAT on private education has made me reconsider. I'm not financially well-off, just about managing, and I took on two jobs to afford the fees for my son’s private grammar school. Despite our efforts, he couldn’t get a place in any of the five local state schools due to oversubscription, and our appeal was unsuccessful. We were instead assigned a school outside our area with a poor Ofsted report. Faced with this choice, I opted to work harder to provide him with a better education privately. The proposed VAT changes would make it even harder for families like mine to manage.

For me, Labour doesn’t seem to understand that not everyone who sends their children to private school is wealthy. I don’t like the Tories either, but I would rather vote for them than for Labour.

I don’t care for a graph that looks like it’s been knocked up by 5 year olds thanks all the same.

Here you go. Here’s another one. This might be a bit more to your taste.

Nope to labour

@Meetingofminds be honest, you aren't going to accept any data that contradicts your opinion. And we all know what they say about opinions.

A graph of info from the ONS?

@BIossomtoes I think you're trying to confuse people with facts again.

I know. You’d think I’d have known better by now.

No we are not. Their strong point is not overspending and the economy. Labour are historically terrible with money.

Aaaaaand Liz Truss? Her impact on the economy? I think this old trope no longer stands up to scrutiny. They have yanked our economy.

My goodness, are there really not enough threads on this one issue already?

VAT on school fees is the single most important issue in the entire universe. Food banks are yesterdays news, the real hardship cases are private school parents and their struggles if VAT is introduced on fees. Do keep up, haven't you read the hundreds on threads on this extremely important issue. The future of a very small but extremely important number of people is on a knife-edge. 🙄

I give up, you are incapable of having a discussion in good faith unlike others with GC views.

Merely asked for examples.

What exactly are 'GC movement failures'?

I don't wish harm on anyone. I want women to have single sex provisions. I don't want men in women's spaces and sports. I don't want women demonised for wanting this. That's all. Not sure what your point is there.

I’m not sure why this is problematic either. It’s a reasonable ask from many women.

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 21/06/2024 06:43

I'm still waiting for examples. Also despite one poster insisting like a banshee that women's rights isn't important, and no one is listening, it's featuring quite heavily on all the GE threads I've opened, especially from undecided voters.

Absolutely.

Either that or it's all the Tory interns have to go on.

93% of the population have nothing to do with private schools 7% do.The Tories are on about 20% that's it and this cohort are smart enough not to vote Reform. They are in their grief phase. Thankfully if there were any Brexit supporters then there are plenty of extra service jobs that need doing. Daily Mail stories about private schools used to full of anecdotes about some parents living on soup and doing 4 jobs so they could school another Rishi Sunak. Indeed if this happens it will be a kick off boost to the Starmer landlside - a tax windfall and more active workeres in the economy.

BIossomtoes · 21/06/2024 07:25

Of course it is because a very small number of posters are spamming the threads. Just like they were incited to deluge Woman’s Hour with “questions” on Wednesday. So transparent.

It's like the fable of the wind and the sun trying to get the coat on. It will have the opposite effect of energising the anti-Tory vote. Bring it on. The Tories are the wind Labour is the sun......

😂 Or.... it's an important issue for many. Why is that so difficult to understand and accept? Just because you don't doesn't mean that's the same for all.

BIossomtoes · 21/06/2024 07:35

It’s an important issue for a very small minority. Just like VAT on school fees. Their voices are disproportionately loud compared with their numbers.

You don’t want the things @AccidentallyWesAnderson listed in pp?

I know some are vocal about not wanting those things (spamming as suggested to someone else who knows) but how about you?

This post from below, would you want this?

‘I don't wish harm on anyone. I want women to have single sex provisions. I don't want men in women's spaces and sports. I don't want women demonised for wanting this. That's all. Not sure what your point is there’

TheFirmBiscuit · 21/06/2024 07:42

It's worth reminding ourselves this sectional interest if Reform wasn't there could probably have a fighting chance to swing this back to the Tories - so every time you see Fatige open his fag stained gob praise the Lord he is there dividing their vote.l

I think if every woman on the planet was asked which was the more important of the two - VAT on private school fees or women's rights, I'm confident what would come out on top.

Talk about stating the bleedin’ obvious. I’m talking about the two burning issues of the day on MN. I’m confident that if every woman on the planet was asked what was the most important issue in her life the trans issue would barely feature.

Trans issue to you, to everyone else it's women's rights to single sex provisions. Although this has been pointed out to you many times.

And do you know what? You might as well stop pointing it out. I know what it is, however much you might try to pretend it’s not. All my life I’ve called a spade a spade and I’m not stopping now.

Only to "everyone else" on FWR. In the real world most people would say trans issue.

Also it seems to have expanded into "child safeguarding" so you aren't even fully correct with your line to take.

You don't have to bow down to others language policing

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 21/06/2024 08:22

I'll continue to point out inaccuracies as I see them.

Oh the double act has arrived 🙄.

One's language policing is another's comprehension skills questioning.
