Conservative Party Manifesto - for women and girls

Absolutely fantastic. The cynical me asks "why haven't they done this before?" And yea, they've just brought it out now. But it has been over 2 years in the making and the result of some very hard work behind the scenes.

@MNHQ please don't move this to the Feminist Board, it's very relevant here as it forms a part of the Conservative Party manifesto

A load of drivel. Quite simply they haven't done anything about it before because it's lip service and fodder to achieve votes from confused and simplistic individuals.

40somethingme · 11/06/2024 14:45

Nah, they just jumped on the JKR cult bandwagon sensing some easy votes. Suddenly caring about women after 14 years in power.

UltraLineHolder · 11/06/2024 15:06

I think every Mum who has daughters doesn't want them having to undress along with trans-identifying males. It is quite a normal thing to want.
And no Mum wants their sports awards and trophies taken from their daughters by a hulking 17yr old boy.
This should be part of every Party's manifesto!

You are assuming they would actually do this were they to still be in government.

Hugosmaid · 11/06/2024 17:07

This should be in everyone’s manifesto.

They are the only one promising this.

The other lot are the same - promising stuff ..

But yeah it could be a vote winner for me. I would never have voted Labour anyway

I think this could happen. Kemi has been very vocal about this and doing quite a bit of stuff behind the scenes already. I expect after the slow mission creep - yes under the conservatives - it would have taken quite of lot of time to find the evidence to be able to reverse what’s been happening.

I’m not fan of the current conservatives- but they are the only ones who have not ran head first in to the trans ideology.

However if Kemi took top spot and booted Rishi off I’d be first in the queue to vote for her

This.

ZazieBeth · 11/06/2024 17:15

Yup, they care so much for women and girls that the backlog in rape prosecutions stretches farther than the eye can see.

But they use this culture wars nonsense to make some noise and distract from how badly they have failed women and girls (and anyone else vulnerable).

Hotnamehere · 11/06/2024 17:19

Another one of Rishi's 'plans'

DramaLlamaBangBang · 11/06/2024 17:25

All they have said is that they will make clear that the sex protection in the Equality Act applies to biological sex. It is already clear. The ordinary definition of sex is biological sex. They have been more vocal lately to their credit but that manifesto commitment is meaningless.

I’m very skeptical.

The reason we have the GRA is because the ECHR required the UK to adopt laws giving transgender people the right to have their chosen sex markers on ID documents. While I suspect you could ring fence certain single sex spaces, I think some of those pledged changes (e.g. one sex at law) would likely result in the UK being in violation of the convention. I think that’s why they’re only making this promise
now that they almost certainly won’t be in power.

IseultHam · 11/06/2024 17:28

I wouldn't trust Kemi

She should have been prosecuted

@Hugosmaid

Anything she says or champions is for personal gain. They've had 14 years to implement anything that would support women and girls.

That's as may be, but the real question is, why is this not Labour's position?

It has never been clarified because no one ever thought that humanity would regress so much that people would pretend to not know what biological sex actually is. This is where we are - it needs to be clarified asap.

SprigatitoYouAndIKnow · 11/06/2024 18:42

Yes, they love women so much that Westminster is a hotbed of sexual assault and cover ups. So much that carers, who are majority female, are penalised for earning 1p over a limit amd prosecuted after accidentally going over years ago. The same carers who have seen respite and day centres closed. So much that they don't provide school places that meet the needs of children with learning differences and disabilities, so women need to give up work and home educate. So much that rape has been effectively decriminalised.

Nah, won't be agreeing that they care about women at all!

Diefrausagtnein · 11/06/2024 21:32

Mmmm this and taking us out of the ECtHR. Something to look forward I guess.

You are assuming they would actually do this were they to still be in government.

And that's highly in doubt. Everyone knows Sunak is out on his arse after the GE, win or lose. The next Tory leader could be one of their many TRAs.

Anyway, them paying lip service now doesn't undo the damage they've done to women through their entire time government. The Tories didn't give a shit about us then. They won't give a shit about us after the election.

Diefrausagtnein · 11/06/2024 21:39

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 11/06/2024 17:32

That's as may be, but the real question is, why is this not Labour's position?

I guess the tories are well known for being nasty and attacking some minority or another, whether it be single mothers, Muslims, disabled folk, gays etc
Labour has a historic reputation of supporting vulnerable groups. Obviously TRAs are well able to defend themselves nowadays and things are going somewhat backwards with regards to women’s rights so hopefully Labour will adopt a more nuanced position.

I think Kemi will be pushed to the front. She’s got a chance and she would win votes

I think there are always a few bad eggs as there is with the other party’s.

However you’ve got to admit - the tories have elected the most diverse leaders out of them all. Labour has always been white men.

I honestly believe Kemi would have a real chance. People like her no nonsense approach. I’d vote for her tomorrow

I've been a bit busy. Have they announced a belated crackdown on PPE and other covid era frauds committed by the likes of Michelle Mone, in order to pay for family and criminal courts in order to make women's lives safer?

9quidicecream · 11/06/2024 21:52

Just a reminder, all the stuff you’re unhappy about has happened under Conservative rule. This is just a cynical vote grabber, and it looks like some will fall for it.

So has Penny TWAW Mordaunt. She's very popular among the party members.
