Conservative Party Manifesto - for women and girls

Absolutely fantastic. The cynical me asks "why haven't they done this before?" And yea, they've just brought it out now. But it has been over 2 years in the making and the result of some very hard work behind the scenes.

@MNHQ please don't move this to the Feminist Board, it's very relevant here as it forms a part of the Conservative Party manifesto

Ummm this is.fear mongering and an absolute non-issue. What circumstance has your daughter had to undress in front a trans person?
And the hulking big 17 yr old taking medals. I like how you added the hulking, and big and 17 yr old to really ratchet up the fear.
Our daughters have a far bigger problem with online sexual harassment and abuse. That is what you should be worrying about.

There are lots of documented instances of women and girls being significantly affected by this. A women raped on a single-sex hospital ward not believed because ‘there were no males on the ward’ is one that springs to mind. Loads of examples in the press and on the FWR board. But nah, you hear no devil and see no evil. That’ll work. 🙄

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 12/06/2024 11:34

How do they propose to fund this?

And once these rapists have been convicted, how many of them will be housed in women's prisons?

What I don’t understand about this line trotted out again and again is that it overlooks the dismal job the Tories have done in running this country for the last 14 years, why have things got to this sorry state of affairs- they have very much “sold all the butter and lost all the money”!

Tukmgru · 12/06/2024 14:27

Oh look, CCHQ have yet another account on mumsnet. Hello! Please advise us why you think we’re all so stupid that we’d believe you’ll do any of this? You’ve had 14 years, during which you’ve made women’s (and men’s) lives demonstrably worse across a whole host of things, but you think this will bring people to vote for you?

Trying not to die laughing over here.

I'm no Tory but they literally came into office 14 years ago and found a note left by Labour saying, "There is no more money."

Obviously that doesn't justify all the things they've done to damage the economy further since then.

Regardless, whoever is in power can only do what they can afford to pay for.

So if what the Tories are offering to benefit women is something which can be done cheaply and easily, and Labour are refusing to do the thing which can be done cheaply and easily but saying they will do something which will be difficult, expensive and time consuming, I'm inherently sceptical about that. They could offer to do the thing which is cheap and easy as well, but they won't. Why not?

Pretty irrelevant when rapists don’t reach court.

I've never seen such blatant mysogyny on a mumsnet thread, and there have been some pretty strong contenders.
Does the woman who survived this horrendous expeience just not exist for you?
Edited to add: I've never reported a post before but I've decided I will report this.

Equally, what about women’s maternity rights, I had one baby under a Labour government another under a Conservative government in 2012, the experience was infinitely better with my DS. I had timely antenatal care, I had quick medical attention when things became tricky at the birth of DS, I was kept in to be monitored, I was offered post natal therapy for traumatic births - I didn’t even think this was available or that I actually needed it but they wrote to me so funding was available. So many activities and playgroups that had funding. Fast forward to DD, complications again, so I had to be induced. My DH had to go looking for staff when I wanted pain relief, I gave birth, tricky latching on but literally 3 hours after the birth, a Doctor asked if I was ok to go home now as they were short of beds! The baby years were different with DD as fewer groups to take her to and they had closed from lack of funding.

Yes, they love women so much that Westminster is a hotbed of sexual assault and cover ups. So much that carers, who are majority female, are penalised for earning 1p over a limit amd prosecuted after accidentally going over years ago. The same carers who have seen respite and day centres closed. So much that they don't provide school places that meet the needs of children with learning differences and disabilities, so women need to give up work and home educate. So much that rape has been effectively decriminalised.

Nah, won't be agreeing that they care about women at all!

This isn’t quite what it has been presented to be.

It was a bit of a running jokes for an outgoing government to leave a note along those lines to the incoming one. For example, in 1964, the outgoing Tory Chancellor, Reggie Maudling left a note saying ”Good luck, old cock. Sorry to leave it in such a mess” for Jim Callaghan.

The Lib Dem, David Laws, who weaponised it later apologised to Liam Byrne for doing so. And that’s the same David Laws who resigned after a couple weeks over an expenses scandal.

Yes me too. I had two babies under Labour, one under Tories and the difference in care was striking.

No, I asked you how they proposed to fund this and whether they will still stick to their policy of putting male rapists who claim to have pink gender identities in women's prisons.

I think you'll find that's Tory policy. Did you forget the Conservatives have been in power for 14 years?

TooBigForMyBoots · 12/06/2024 15:06

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 12/06/2024 12:26

Which other party can gender critical feminists vote for then?

Are you abroad @MissScarletInTheBallroom?

It's not Tory party policy anymore, whereas if I am not mistaken, it is still Labour party policy.

The Tories have let an awful lot of shit happen on their watch, yes. But Labour have consistently criticised them for not going far enough in this area.

There are no GC Feminist parties standing. Who is standing in your constituency?

I'm not asking for a gender critical feminist party.

I'm asking for one party somewhere on the left or in the centre that isn't pretending not to know what a woman is for the benefit of a small number of men who want to be women.

Surely that's not too much to ask?

We shouldn't have to choose between the Tories and dangerous woowoo that puts women, children and gay people at risk.

It’s misogyny to point out that rape’s all but been decriminalised because the majority never reach court? Are you being serious?

IIRC, @MissScarletInTheBallroom talked on another thread of getting a postal vote or her mum being her proxy. Apologies if I've mixed you up with someone else @MissScarletInTheBallroom.Thanks

We shouldn't have to choose between the Tories and dangerous woowoo that puts women, children and gay people at risk.

We don't have that choice. Sunak is gone after the GE, there's a high chance that one of the TRAs in the party will take over.

Is now a good time to point out that misogyny against men is just as bad as that against women, or so we are told.

I think the misogyny was calling her rape irrelevant.
Increasing prosecution rates for rape is a great thing if Labour can actually deliver on it. But if they make rape, sexual assault, voyeurism and indecent exposure all easier to commit by eroding single sex spaces, then it's little comfort to those victims to say now your attacker has a 10% of being convicted instead of a 1% chance.

Except I didn’t say the rape was irrelevant. 🤷‍♀️

The higher likelihood of conviction would presumably be a deterrent. Currently there’s no deterrent at all.

Are you saying that the chances of being prosecuted and convicted make no difference to whether or not people will commit crime.

No need to be tough on crime then.
