Conservative Party Manifesto - for women and girls

Absolutely fantastic. The cynical me asks "why haven't they done this before?" And yea, they've just brought it out now. But it has been over 2 years in the making and the result of some very hard work behind the scenes.

@MNHQ please don't move this to the Feminist Board, it's very relevant here as it forms a part of the Conservative Party manifesto

No. 14 years ago very few people knew the harms of gender ideology, least of all the Tory party.
Feminists over the last ten or so years have been trying to get the message across to all political parties, and have finally managed to make one major party take notice. And to everyone's surprise it wasn't the progressive greens, libdems or even Labour who finally paid attention it was the Conservatives. While Labour called women dinosaurs, the SNP called them bigots, the Greens called them non-men, a few senior Tories actually listened to the message. They have instigated the Cass report, blocked Scottish self ID with section 35, and published draft guidance on trans issues in schools. This is real but modest progress, but sadly the momentum will likely now shift in the opposite direction under the next govt.

This.

Too little too late..I don't trust Tories anymore and nothing will change my mind at this stage

TooBigForMyBoots · 12/06/2024 09:28

The Tories failed us on this as they failed us on most things. They thought that bleating but Labour... was adequate substitute for running the country.🙈

Ah well, they're toast now so their witless witterings are utterly meaningless.🤷‍♀️

I'm all for women being protected. But If this what you take from the manifesto? I feel like giving in. I don't because I know most people understand that where the 12 billion they will save from welfare reform will result n poor people being poorer

how is the 12bilbillion going to come from, otherwise? Our of the pockets of those who are already poor, that's where.

But you carry on being focused on only one issue. And side poor people, who seem, to me, to be mostly women.

Yes, spot on, what have the Conservatives done too decrease wealth inequality- I would imagine poverty is not a great equaliser for women- money gives you choices and you don’t have many of them when you are poor.

BIossomtoes · 12/06/2024 09:56

Who cares more about women? The party producing some meaningless cant in its manifesto or the party that plans to bring rapists to justice? I suppose there are some people so dedicated to the Tory cause they’ll cling to any excuse for doing so.

Do we think But Jeremy Corbyn is pleased or disappointed that he has been usurped?

How exactly do you think Labour will bring rapists to justice?

Thingscanonlygetsunk · 12/06/2024 11:28

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 12/06/2024 11:25

How exactly do you think Labour will bring rapists to justice?

They might perhaps fund the criminal justice system properly, rather than consistently cutting it?

Radical, I know, but maybe?

whovotestory · 12/06/2024 11:31

Oh dear OP, it looks like you're actually dumb enough to fall for the "look at the shiny toy" approach.

The Tories do not give two shits about you, or your daughters

With what? The magic money tree?

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 12/06/2024 11:34

How do they propose to fund this?

And once these rapists have been convicted, how many of them will be housed in women's prisons?

Are you suggesting that the current situation whereby rape has essentially been decriminalised is better? Or that most rapists are trans women?

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 12/06/2024 11:33

Exactly. When you have the justice system on its knees, local services cut to ribbons, schools and hospitals falling apart and the country servicing trillion pounds worth of debt, who thinks tax cuts for the wealthy are a good idea? It's like your house falling down, so instead of spending money on fixing the roof, going out and buying a new car to live in.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 12/06/2024 11:44

BIossomtoes · 12/06/2024 11:40

No, I asked you how they proposed to fund this and whether they will still stick to their policy of putting male rapists who claim to have pink gender identities in women's prisons.

Thingscanonlygetsunk · 12/06/2024 11:47

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 12/06/2024 11:33

With what? The magic money tree?

According to the government there is sufficient money to cut National Insurance, and surely the government would know, so perhaps instead of that, it could be used to fund vital public services that we all rely on?

Thingscanonlygetsunk · 12/06/2024 11:49

In the interests of factual accuracy I would like to point out that rape as defined by the law in England and Wales (probably also Scotland, but I have not checked) means that a rapist must be male.

BIossomtoes · 12/06/2024 11:51

If the Tories can find the money for 150 judges to implement their Rwanda policy it’s not a stretch to use those judges for rape trials. And your disingenuity around trans women in prisons doesn’t wash. Your argument relies on the presumption that a substantive proportion of unconvicted rapists are trans women and it’s safer to leave them on the streets than lock them up.

I can only conclude that safety for women isn’t a strong motivator for voting Tory.

They must have a penis.

Labour don't believe having a penis necessarily means you are male.

No, my argument relies on the factual observation that literally any man can now say, "I identify as a woman."

It should be common sense that how someone claims to identify should have absolutely no bearing on which prison they go to, but apparently it isn't.

The Tories don't need to find money for anything because they'll be in opposition this time next month.

BIossomtoes · 12/06/2024 11:59

You asked where the money would come from. The Tories aren’t going to take it with them - although I wouldn’t put it past them to try.

Its surely not so much that Labour don't believe that, but that Labour believe in the rule of law, and that is what the law currently says.

We know that Sunak doesn't believe in the rule of law as evidenced several times by his lawbreaking.

NeverEndingWait · 12/06/2024 12:05

I think the absolute obsession with gender stuff comes from relatively privileged voters who don’t have to worry about the CoL crisis. If you can’t feed your kids why worry about the apocryphal trans person in the loo beyond owt else. I’m not saying there isn’t an issue but it’s not the thing that determines my vote above everything else.

Bollocks. You can be concerned about multiple things at the same time, it isn't even hard. Maybe, just maybe, they want to be able to feed their children AND make sure that their daughters aren't losing out on medals to boys, having mixed-sex sleepovers with Guides, and undressing in front of grown men.

If he was trying to be technically legally correct, the vast majority of transwomen are still legally male, so he should be able to call them men. But he can't, because it's an ideological position not a legal one.

Just maybe being gender critical and taking three million children out of poverty are incompatible because you seem to think that only the party that created all that poverty supports your GC views. And they’re clearly more important to you than millions of children in destitution. Those children aren’t winning medals or going to Guides so it’s very much a middle class luxury view.
