General election 2024

Seeing as it’s anonymous… where is your vote going?

My views -

Conservative - Potentially had a tough ride with Covid & brexit aftermath to navigate. However, looking at the state of the NHS & the ever increasing price rises in almost everything… how could I vote them in again?

Labour - Almost feels like the only likely alternative. Change is as good as any? But Keir starmer does precisely 0 for me. I cannot get passionate about him.

Greens - Won our constituency a while ago, whilst I appreciate what they stand for the changes they made locally have had a negative impact on the average citizen IMO.

Reform - Nigel Farage is DIFFERENT, I don’t think that can be denied. Part of me thinks bold and controversial is what we need and the other thinks he is a brilliant campaigner and is just playing up to the people trying to act like ‘one of the working class’ to garner votes.

@ilovesooty nope, not got a clue. How is that depressing?
Presuming the 'tories' refers to conservatories
Never heard of reform, is that a party ?
I've no idea what's going on/ each party is all about, so no point voting.

MavisPennies · 10/06/2024 21:01

Either Labour, as close to socialism as we'll realistically get.
I'm not a huge fan of Starmer, but he's Tory looking enough and bland enough to get in. I much prefer Corbyn but the neoliberal vibe of the majority didn't want him.

Or Green - a message to my MP that I want her to be strong on green issues.

But probably Labour.

I know people will feel passionately here but I do want to try and avoid it turning into a thread of posters arguing with each other (if that’s possible with politics) 🤪

@Wheresyourvote
As you asked so nicely I'll resist the urge to comment beyond 🤣🤣🤣🤣there are some ridiculous statements on the thread 🫢🫢

I'll be holding my nose and voting LD. The candidate seems good for our area and they're the ONLY party that have a slight chance of getting rid of our absolutely shit conservative MP. Party Politics aside, he's the most useless, work shy, camera loving bullshitter around. He gives Rishi a run for his money!!

Kneenightmare · 10/06/2024 21:02

100% labour. Keir Starmer has a long track record of public service. I despair at people calling him boring, we desperately need someone serious and committed who can bring stability and stop us being a joke in the rest of the world, rather than the self serving Tory twats with a “personality” we’ve had in power for so long. It’s the first election I’ve felt like there is actually a good option since 1997.

Mum2jenny · 10/06/2024 21:02

Def not labour, maybe Respect, but still on fence.

NCNC10000009 · 10/06/2024 21:02

And certainly never heard of Starmer !

I think it's depressing that someone can be so uninformed and disinterested.

Chilledonsunday · 10/06/2024 21:02

Labour.

SnapdragonToadflax · 10/06/2024 21:02

I'm voting tactically to get the Tories out of a fairly safe seat (20k majority), so voting Lib Dem. It looks like they might actually do it.

I like Keir Starmer though, and would happily vote Labour if they stood a chance in my area. He's an intelligent, sensible man. I don't need a character as PM, just someone quietly capable is fine.

Nigel Farage is a racist and anyone voting for him should be ashamed of themselves.

ThatAmpleMentor · 10/06/2024 21:03

Quittingwifework · 10/06/2024 20:38

Are these comments necessary? Is it not possible to understand that other people might have the same sorts of feelings about labour and Lib Dem?

Think about life under labour before the Tories came in... Functioning NHS, functioning social care, a society that cared about those worse off... Where are we now?? And you think Reform have the best interests of those most in need at heart??? Those of us that can afford to need to pay more to improve life for all... (And that includes me!)

Neurodiversitydoctor · 10/06/2024 21:04

Wheresyourvote · 10/06/2024 20:38

Those voting Labour, can I ask if that’s because you genuinely believe in Keir Starmer and his policies or because you just want conservatives out?

For all their undoubted flaws I believe they have a better chance of sorting the health service and education system out than another 5 years of Conservatism. The tories plan to give public services a 1% increase in annual funding for the duration of the next parliment so that pensioners can pay less tax, jesus wept. Its a 2 horse race down here.

Where is your vote going?

I haven't decided.

I'm waiting until all the manifestos come out and reading them.... Which huge punches of salt nearby.

I like my local Reform Candidate.
I don't like my local Beardy Labour candidate.
I don't know anything about the other candidates.

As it stands at the moment, I'd vote for a kick in the face before I vote for Starmer to kick me, and many many women, in the crotch.

Oreosareawful · 10/06/2024 21:05

I can’t vote labour, just no
I can’t vote conservatives, they had their chance.
so I’m voting Reform.

BizzyOldFule · 10/06/2024 21:05

I honestly don't know what to do. And I've always bee fairly sure before - but this time... And I hate the system. I'd choose PR and at least any vote for any party is recognised.

StripedPiggy · 10/06/2024 21:05

Wheresyourvote · 10/06/2024 20:56

@StripedPiggy

Starmer is a decent man and a person of integrity who will be a competent

This is interesting & exactly the sort of opinions I was looking for when I started the thread. What makes you feel this way @StripedPiggy? I would love to vote for Labour believe this about Keir.

Everything he has done in his career prior to becoming an MP in 2015. He was a distinguished human rights lawyer, became a KC then (by all accounts) he made a very good job of running the CPS.

Very few politicians have run large organisations before going into politics which is why useless clowns like Johnson & ideological muppets like Truss end up as PM & failing disastrously.

I also admire the way in which he fought a very smart campaign to win the Labour leadership then was brutally efficient in crushing the hard Left who led the party to disaster in 2019. He is a serious operator.

Makeitblue · 10/06/2024 21:06

Justkeepswiimming · 10/06/2024 20:46

They do think the NHS needs reforming. They think it needs destroying and the contracts given to their rich mates.

I honestly don't care if the NHS is completely destroyed and remade in a different image. The model no longer works. But the NHS has been so deified people think that the model itself is sacred, and this is what's killing people. Like a relationship with an abusive partner.

What they are proposing is an insurance system underwritten by the state - so those who can't afford to pay don't have to, and no one slips through the gap. Other countries (like Germany and France) which have models like this, and comparable funding to the NHS, are achieving better outcomes.

Sunhatweather · 10/06/2024 21:06

Anonym00se · 10/06/2024 20:56

Ah but according to Reform, “women are the sponging gender and should be deprived of healthcare”.

They sound delightful. It’s no wonder women are flocking to them.

I find some members of the Reform party highly questionable, but feel similar about figures in the Tories and Labour (who can’t define a woman) tbf.

amymel2016 · 10/06/2024 21:06

Lib Dem, would be Labour but they have no chance in our constituency.

I don’t understand people wanting someone ‘controversial’?! I want a decent, honest human being and Keir Starmer is both of those things.

Thingamebobwotsit · 10/06/2024 21:06

It is a tough choice this time round.

Lib Dem or Labour to vote tactically

Do Reform actually have any policies? Seems like a lot of hot air and we have had enough of that already.

Elphame · 10/06/2024 21:07

We have a Monster Raving Looney candidate it seems.

That could be an appropriate choice as I can’t in all conscience vote for any of the mainstream parties.

Wheresyourvote · 10/06/2024 21:07

@ilovesooty Thanks for that. Seems contradictory to the reform and Nigel Farage as he sells him self as massively patriotic!

@ilovesooty really ? You're most likely not interested in the things I am, so why is it odd I'm not interested in things that you/others are eg politics & voting.

My vote is not going to make any difference - yes I know if we all thought that blah blah blah.

ShinyBandana · 10/06/2024 21:08

Labour, no question

You genuinely don't know who the governing party of the country is? And you're a civil servant? I find that hard to believe.
