General election 2024

Seeing as it’s anonymous… where is your vote going?

My views -

Conservative - Potentially had a tough ride with Covid & brexit aftermath to navigate. However, looking at the state of the NHS & the ever increasing price rises in almost everything… how could I vote them in again?

Labour - Almost feels like the only likely alternative. Change is as good as any? But Keir starmer does precisely 0 for me. I cannot get passionate about him.

Greens - Won our constituency a while ago, whilst I appreciate what they stand for the changes they made locally have had a negative impact on the average citizen IMO.

Reform - Nigel Farage is DIFFERENT, I don’t think that can be denied. Part of me thinks bold and controversial is what we need and the other thinks he is a brilliant campaigner and is just playing up to the people trying to act like ‘one of the working class’ to garner votes.

Where is your vote going?

@ilovesooty Thanks for that. Seems contradictory to the reform and Nigel Farage as he sells him self as massively patriotic!

Farage is definitely not patriotic. He doesn't care about this country. The only thing Nigel Farage loves is Nigel Farage.

It would be a dreadful thing. The NHS is brilliant, but needs proper management and proper funding. I'm familiar with Southmead thank you, I had my baby there and they were fantastic.

I've lived in several countries without a healthcare for all system, many hospitals are still underfunded and some actually offer rather poor care, you just pay more for the displeasure.

But that's my point it needs proper management, the company I worked for until 2009 wouldn't have spent 250k on a clock, or 2 football pitches of wasted space. Southmead nhs management did both less than 10 years ago.
Proper outside, profit driven management (where profit gets driven back into the business) is the only solution. Doctors/matrons can manage the clinical side but be honest, if you were taking over the nhs what would you do first....I would streamline the procurement to exercise the ability to leverage the buying power...just like Tescos do. I'd make 100s redundant but save £millions...really not sure if that's possible under the current structure

whatnnoww · 10/06/2024 21:11

No idea at the mo . Long standing Conservative seat but with a new candidate this year . Just discovered that Labour and Lib Dem are in joint second place 🤷🏻‍♀️not far behind Tory - so anything could happen . I don’t think labour can deliver the change people expect and want without finding a magic money tree . I’m worried about Defence more than Labour are and Climate Change more than the Conservatives are .

NCNC10000009 · 10/06/2024 21:11

@Romeiswheretheheartis I honestly have no idea. My DH has told me before, but I've forgotten. I would like to be more clued up, but it's all a bit of a maze and I've other things to do than bone up on politics

BotDranning · 10/06/2024 21:12

Life long conservative. But I genuinely can't vote for them.

I have heard nothing from Labour that would make me vote for them. I think kier starter is a fool; angela Rayner - objectionable.

Will never vote Reform.

Lib Dems - no.

So looks like a spoilt ballet paper for me to

Such a sorry state of affairs.

We will have to agree to disagree. I cannot see Nigel Farage and friends doing anything positive for this country. Friends will get big contracts and the rest of us will be screwed. I would like to see less privatisation of essential services, not more.

WestEndWindy · 10/06/2024 21:13

@NCNC10000009 what have you been doing for the last 14 years? Do you not care about the country or the people that live in it?

HRTQueen · 10/06/2024 20:58

Labour they are on course for a comfortable win

I am getting very concerned about Reform

The more votes for the Conservatives receive the less Reform do and that is fine by me as they won’t win. What Nigel Farage said today is despicable

the LibDems well unfortunately they are being totally overshadowed

What did Nigel Farage say today?

Namechanged4obviousreasons · 10/06/2024 21:15

I’m voting Reform. Labour is no more for the working class than the Conservatives and Kier couldn’t answer simple questions when they had their debate the other evening. He was happy to blame Rishi for the current state of things but had no explanations for how he could actually do things different.

The NHS is a big concern for me and Rishi openly said there hadn’t been the money to offer staff what they wanted as a pay rise and this had lead to the strikes. He asked Kier how he would have addressed it…his response was sitting round a table to discuss but acknowledging there’s no money to offer, so nothing would have changed.

I would love a complete change from Labour and Conservative. I don’t know if Reform will command enough votes but I think it’s our only hope of something different.

Wheresyourvote · 10/06/2024 21:15

@NCNC10000009 do you have social media? If you have Instagram a good starting point might be just having a look at the candidates pages… & go from there.
Rishi Sunak (Conservative and current PM)
Keir Starmer (Labour)
Nigel Farage (Reform)
etc etc…

@NCNC10000009 has suggested she would like to know more but doesn’t know where to start and I do understand that. We weren’t all brought up to pay much attention to politics.

@ilovesooty really ? You're most likely not interested in the things I am, so why is it odd I'm not interested in things that you/others are eg politics & voting.

My vote is not going to make any difference - yes I know if we all thought that blah blah blah.

I've no idea what you're interested in. One can be interested in more than one thing. I'm utterly bemused by someone who doesn't even know who's running the country. Do you not care about how policy impacts you and those you love?

LauderSyme · 10/06/2024 21:16

Labour. I believe in economic and social justice and although I don't think Labour will deliver either, they would at least like to tend in that direction.

I think Keir Starmer is a decent human being and will make a competent PM.

Reform are dangerously right-wing. It blows my mind that many of the same people who criticise Rishi Sunak for not venerating D-Day veterans highly enough plan to vote for this untried, untested motley crew whose primary policy is to scapegoat 'The Other'.

Nigel Farage promised that Brexit would deliver a patriotic idyll. It didn't. Lots of us said it wouldn't. Honest question: why would any of you give him yet another chance to deceive you?

Quittingwifework · 10/06/2024 21:17

ThatAmpleMentor · 10/06/2024 21:03

Think about life under labour before the Tories came in... Functioning NHS, functioning social care, a society that cared about those worse off... Where are we now?? And you think Reform have the best interests of those most in need at heart??? Those of us that can afford to need to pay more to improve life for all... (And that includes me!)

Where are we now?

in a completely different financial and political landscape than we were in 1997. It doesn’t work to just compare parties then and parties now - the world and the country have both changed dramatically. It’s like comparing the conservatives in 1940s with now. It’s apples and oranges.

NCNC10000009 · 10/06/2024 21:18

@WestEndWindy my vote will mean f all. It won't change a thing. Regardless of who is in power, we still have to pay ££££ tax, we will still have v long waits on NHS. My only concern is no to compulsory (army?) service for 16 year old. Can't remember who said that, but 1 party suggested it.

Everygrain · 10/06/2024 21:18

Reform

WaitingfortheTardis · 10/06/2024 21:19

I can't believe how Nigel Farage has been able to pull the wool over so many people's eyes again. Amazing. Sad.

StarDolphins · 10/06/2024 21:19

Based on the abolishment of the kept animals bill, it definitely won’t be Conservatives.

Based on various things like I don’t like Keir, I won’t be voting Labour either.

No one else is worth voting for so I’m stuck.

Conservatives

1dayatatime · 10/06/2024 21:20

Vote for the Conservatives because yes we have totally screwed up the last 14 years but please give us another 5 years because somehow we think we can get it right this time - but we have no plan on how to do this other than some random policies on national service.

Vote for Labour because we are not the Conservatives and they totally screwed up the last 14 years. OK we have no plan on how to do a better job other than some random policies on private school fees. But we're not the Conservatives and they really screwed up.

Vote for LibDems because the Conservatives really screwed up the last 14 years and we're not the Conservatives and in this Tory constituency many Tory voters can't bring themselves to do a full switch to Labour and we offer a halfway house. We equally have no plan on basically anything other than some bizarre photo opportunities to make us seem friendly.

Vote for Reform because we are not Conservatives or Labour. Like Brexit we will give you some simple promises (like let's take back control) with no idea what they even mean let alone a plan to deliver whatever it is supposed to mean.

Vote Green - yes all the other parties have stolen our green commitments so vote for us because you have no idea what the other parties stand for and we equally have no idea of what we now stand for.

NCNC10000009 · 10/06/2024 21:20

@ilovesooty I do care but I can't change a thing. Regardless of who gets in, there are pluses and minuses for each party, I'm sure. Just no to service for 16 years old. Maybe I'll not vote for what ever party suggested that. That will be my vote. I have DC who fall into this category

HappiestSleeping · 10/06/2024 21:21

I've got electile dysfunction. None of them really excite me.

Not Conservative and not Reform. Then it's a decision about whether to vote tactically, or for the party I want, or for the person I think would make the best MP.

NCNC10000009 · 10/06/2024 21:21

What's the 14 years significance?

LauderSyme · 10/06/2024 21:21

@NCNC10000009 "My only concern is no to compulsory (army?) service for 16 year old. Can't remember who said that, but 1 party suggested it".

The Conservative Party said they will introduce mandatory national service for 18 year olds. They would serve either in the military or as a volunteer for good causes.

Wheresyourvote · 10/06/2024 21:21

@1dayatatime 😂😂 sense.

That's how long the Conservatives have been in power.
