General election 2024

Seeing as it’s anonymous… where is your vote going?

My views -

Conservative - Potentially had a tough ride with Covid & brexit aftermath to navigate. However, looking at the state of the NHS & the ever increasing price rises in almost everything… how could I vote them in again?

Labour - Almost feels like the only likely alternative. Change is as good as any? But Keir starmer does precisely 0 for me. I cannot get passionate about him.

Greens - Won our constituency a while ago, whilst I appreciate what they stand for the changes they made locally have had a negative impact on the average citizen IMO.

Reform - Nigel Farage is DIFFERENT, I don’t think that can be denied. Part of me thinks bold and controversial is what we need and the other thinks he is a brilliant campaigner and is just playing up to the people trying to act like ‘one of the working class’ to garner votes.

Where is your vote going?

I’m tired of hearing about ‘wasted votes’. No vote is wasted. The idea of democracy is you vote with your feelings/opinion and if your party doesn’t win, so be it. That’s not ‘wasted’ - that’s something said by someone encouraging you to not vote how you actually want.

Tories - No
Labour - As it is currently - hell no.
Reform - YES. Solid plans to reform the NHS properly (which will involve me paying more) and I want a change from the same old two party race. They need to be challenged.

BumBumCream · 10/06/2024 20:47

I’ll be voting Lib Dem as they are the likeliest to over turn the Tory majority in my seat. Plus the Lib Dem candidate actually seems like a decent person.

if I voted with my heart it would be Green or Labour.

2dogsandabudgie · 10/06/2024 20:48

I really don't know. I have always voted conservative but don't think I can vote for them this time.

Labour's policies sound good on paper but as always their sums don't add up.

Lib Dems - I heard the leader of the Lib Dems talking today, Ed someone, and he was just so boring, he would send me to sleep.

Reform - No

Green party - No

Just feel really stuck.

WestEndWindy · 10/06/2024 20:48

I don't think any one party has to meet all your points of view. Eliminate the ones that absolutely turn your stomach (looking at you Reform) then work out priorities versus tactics?

Try this and see how you compare uk.isidewith.com

PumpkinPie2016 · 10/06/2024 20:48

At this point, I'm still unsure.

Don't want the conservatives for sure.

To be honest though, none of the options look good to me. They're all an absolute shower.

Probably lib dem, but I know it's a wasted vote really.

Buttons0522 · 10/06/2024 20:48

No idea!

No trust in conservatives after lockdown parties fiasco. Worried about taxes under labour and private school VAT could mean I lose my job. Was pondering Lib Dem if I could forgive the tuition fee U-turn but have discovered their candidate has an address 181 miles away! (Lab candidate also over 100 miles away, what is that all about!). So I think it will be Green or independent. But with a 67% conservative win last time I think I’m wasting my vote!

They won't reform the NHS, they will effectively ust remove it.

Rainbow1901 · 10/06/2024 20:49

Conservative. Our local MP has been brilliant for getting our town back on the map, getting funding and doing things for the town and constituents that he serves. The previous Labour MP was next to useless - did nothing for the town or its people and just seemed to be collecting their salary.
I have a friend whose parent is an MP for Labour - who several years ago admitted to the fact that Labour will spend the money on their promises. Then leave someone else to do the dirty work of recovering the economy and then get back in power to repeat the whole cycle all over again. I think I believe them now!!
I don't think it really matters who is in government - they all have a difficult job to do.

PeonyAndBlushSuede · 10/06/2024 20:49

Labour

Second choice Green

Wheresyourvote · 10/06/2024 20:49

I know people will feel passionately here but I do want to try and avoid it turning into a thread of posters arguing with each other (if that’s possible with politics) 🤪

Independent - the local candidate is really good

Bobbybobbins · 10/06/2024 20:50

Labour.

I do not find Keir inspiring at all. But the policies align more with my personal beliefs.

NoseNothing · 10/06/2024 20:50

I usually vote Labour but my new constituency is a fight between Tory and Lib Dems so the latter will get my tactical vote.

I don’t know why you need to be “passionate” about Starmer. He is an extremely intelligent man who is a human rights lawyer. Human rights - the most important rights we have - the ones that other parties want to throw away for the sake of the expensive shit show that is the Rwanda plan. He might not be interesting but when has interesting done as any favours? Boris? Nigel? They don’t care about you. Reform is a fucking limited company lining Farage’s pocket FFS.

As for protest votes / spoiling ballots. You can’t expect to find a party that is perfect for you. It won’t happen. But why wouldn’t you want to attempt to get something better than this absolute disgrace of a government? I’d personally prefer a Labour government in place to conduct some quiet, sensible, relatively centrist governing for a few years in a bid to fix the country. If there are specifics in their policies or politics that you don’t like, then lobby your MP after. Don’t put up with a worse government because you’ve got your knickers in a twist over a handful of policies you might disagree with.

And for the record, am a higher earner who pays a fuck load in tax already and am happy to pay even more if it meant we had a functioning society again.

Talked to two people lately both Tory members one middle aged man earning £200k other 84 year old pensioner both life long tories both going to vote reform . It’s going to be closer than we think .

Tory, good sitting mp. But Christ the party has run out of ideas

Labour are just Tory light (again) but with a large number of very left wing members who could oust Starmer and bring in their own person (it will be a man)

Lib dems...who?

Greens ridiculous policies that will cost a fortune, pandering to the green lobby has already helped push up fuel bills, committed us to electric cars which are basically a tax on the poor and a technology that will be redundant in 10 years

Reform are hated by the press esp the BBC who have even tried to stoke a left wing push in the eu elections with their stories on the "ultra right" so will not be able to do anything without huge criticism and the left making maximum disruption

The Welsh and Scottish nationalist can't run a piss up at George Best's house, thank God I don't have to consider these corrupt idiots

So overall we're stuffed

Quite difficult to run anything with a bunch of self-serving Tory fuckwits holding the purse strings.

Reform are shysters - they're a private company not even a political party and Farage is a shit stirrer with no practical solutions - plus their manifesto is dog whistling pie in the sky. Tories have utterly trashed the country - (what happened to the money from austerity cuts - pre covid and pre Ukraine?) Anyone who votes Tory should be banned from using the NHS imo.
Starmer is not a 'personality' but we've had enough of them - see Johnson and Farage - they are dangerous fools. This country will never be socialist because of our class system/monarchy/right wing media and Starmer knows that. So Labour it is for me and many others that I know.

BurbageBrook · 10/06/2024 20:51

Labour. I would never vote for the self serving bunch of arseholes that is the Tory party even before they fucked up the country.

weescotlass · 10/06/2024 20:52

SNP. The current MP is excellent so would vote for them regardless of party (except if they were Tory).

Hedgeoffressian · 10/06/2024 20:52

Not Greens and definitely not Labour.

Where I live, tactically, the only possible alternative to Conservative is Lib Dem. They will be getting my vote.

Same for me, and it goes against everything I believe in not to vote Labour, but the only way to try to keep the Tories out here is to vote Lib Dem. Hoping for a Labour win though.
