Tonight's TV debate Sunak v Starmer - any predictions?

Anyone up for a watch thread? Maybe even debate bingo. I know I know, don't threaten me with a good time. (Bingo suggestions: natural party of business, Labour has no plan, end the chaos, Rayner will take over, assorted references to Starmer's time as DPP probably blaming for Jimmy Saville again, inflation is down etc etc.)

At this point I seriously doubt anything like this will remotely change the game Nick Clegg style. I read somewhere the only way Sunak could come out of this ahead in the polls is if Starmer pulled off a mask scooby-doo style to reveal he's Jeremy Corbyn, which admittedly would be great telly.

I'm so fed up with the endless rhetoric but will definitely watch later anyway.

Checking in! I love a debate. 🍿

CallingOccupantsOfInterplanetaryCraft · 04/06/2024 16:56

@MaryMaryVeryContrary me tooo. 🍷wondering now if Sunak will go for the low blows. From watching him at PMQs he gets rattled quite a lot. Starmer's QC background will come in useful tonight.

It could be a snooze fest but I will give it a try. Is this the thread to post on?

uniquestionss · 04/06/2024 16:58

What time is it, I know I can google but I thought someone might enjoy being helpful!

Sunak will mention the word “Furlough” 37 times in one answer.

anythinginapinch · 04/06/2024 17:05

Sunak will say at least he knows what a woman is

I also predict I won't watch it

somewhereovertherain · 04/06/2024 17:06

i'm washing my hair - two utter scum bags

frankentall · 04/06/2024 17:25

Sunak will definitely say "no plan" a lot - they have all been told to say it a lot.
He will try to pretend the last 14 years never happened, and that he has cut all tax, mended inflation and stopped the boats even though he has done the reverse in every case.

Starmer - Change, stop the chaos

rockingbird · 04/06/2024 17:46

I'm in, I do love a good debate.

MrsLeonFarrell · 04/06/2024 17:51

I'll watch if you can guarantee the Scooby Doo mask thing OP. I love a debate but my husband does not so I'll probably just carry on listening to podcasts instead.

DistinguishedSocialCommentator · 04/06/2024 17:56

I'm going to the loo

ActivePeony · 04/06/2024 18:13

I will watch I but I think it will be incredibly uninspiring. I think that Sunak is a better communicator than Starmer (just) but they are both really awkward and wooden and speak as if they are reading from a script even when they are not. We do not deserve them.

StripedPiggy · 04/06/2024 18:24

Sunak desperately needs to fight back against Reform, so I wouldn’t be surprised if he drops a big policy announcement tonight. Leaving ECHR? Abolishing inheritance tax?

Justbetweenus · 04/06/2024 18:26

I’m there to watch Sunak get tetchy and whiny. CCHQ will have coached hard to get him to not tetch and whine … but the man’s entitlement shines through. (Nothing they say will change my
mind at this stage so entertainment factor only.)

BoredZelda · 04/06/2024 18:51

I predict many comments scoring political points, no real substance in any answers and tomorrow both sides will say they won.

uniquestionss · 04/06/2024 19:03

I really wish they would not just put each other down, the public don't want to watch debating school bollocks. I want to hear their ideas and I want them to sound like they have some humanity. Not who is winning the put downs

MaryMaryVeryContrary · 04/06/2024 21:01

Here we go

BIossomtoes · 04/06/2024 21:02

Was Sunak standing on a box at the beginning? He's miles shorter than Starmer.

user1984778379202 · 04/06/2024 21:04

Oh god, he's already mentioned The Plan.
