General election 2024

Tonight's TV debate Sunak v Starmer - any predictions?

CallingOccupantsOfInterplanetaryCraft · 04/06/2024 16:44

Anyone up for a watch thread? Maybe even debate bingo. I know I know, don't threaten me with a good time. (Bingo suggestions: natural party of business, Labour has no plan, end the chaos, Rayner will take over, assorted references to Starmer's time as DPP probably blaming for Jimmy Saville again, inflation is down etc etc.)

At this point I seriously doubt anything like this will remotely change the game Nick Clegg style. I read somewhere the only way Sunak could come out of this ahead in the polls is if Starmer pulled off a mask scooby-doo style to reveal he's Jeremy Corbyn, which admittedly would be great telly.

I'm so fed up with the endless rhetoric but will definitely watch later anyway.

Sunak was vile!

The issue is getting rid of the tories means little in practical terms if there is no plan to improve things from Labour. YES our media would be ‘cleaner’ with less sleaze, corruption and frankly public insults. But that wouldn’t solve all of the issues with our services would it? We can cheer that the tories are gone but if all we are left with is the ruins, and labour can’t fix them; then what??

Then what? Well then labour will spend the next few years blaming the tories for Everything. We all know that.

And meanwhile labour will encourage predatory men into women’s and children’s changing rooms and toilets.

They insist on calling this a ‘trans’ issue - to minimise it, so people do not understand the issue.

It’s a women’s and children’s rights issue affecting at least 51% of the population. Not a ‘trans’ issue, affecting 0.1% of the population.

It’s truly pathetic - and telling - that labour keep suppressing or avoiding any discussion about it. Or if they Do discuss it - they say we will ‘keep safe spaces for women’.

Hoping that the majority of people don’t realise that labours’ definition of women, includes men.

Onomatofear · 05/06/2024 16:24

Oh yes because the Tories are so good at protecting women(!) They couldn’t care less about anyone, let alone women and people who say they vote Tory because of the trans issue - do you expect people to believe that you base your vote on one issue? So disingenuous.

They know what a woman is.
AND they are legally protecting single sex spaces.

Labour are doing neither.
Starmer still thinks we have penises! 😱😱😱😱

Summerdays24 · 05/06/2024 16:33

This is a major issue that will define the election

Summerdays24 · 05/06/2024 16:35

If you can’t see how important it is to over half the electorate then where do we begin to educate you? Women’s spaces are sacred. Women’s rights are sacred. Labour can’t even identify what a real woman is so how on gods holy earth will he protect us? Legally and in all other ways?

Short answer: he won’t!!

Wewereonnabreak · 05/06/2024 16:37

@Onomatofear
I just explained clearly that it’s not a ‘trans issue’ , and yet you still call it a trans issue - rather than a women’s rights issue. Says it all.

It’s this women’s rights issue that is the decider yes. It’s not just one issue of course - it has many implications and consequences.

It’s also the fact labour gave fcked over the disabled, having dropped their pledge.

And the fact they are imposing vat on education.

But primarily, the fact they’re going to welcome predatory men into female spaces. And men into female spaces generally. Horrific.

I wholeheartedly agree, and I am expecting Labour to ruin all of our hard won progress over night by reversing it all. I don’t trust them an inch on this subject or any other.

Reverse what?

Maybe read what Labours position is, rather than repeating Tory lies yet again.

Maybe take your silly conspiracy theories over to the Feminism board?

Summerdays24 · 05/06/2024 16:47

What IS it going to take for Labour to listen to us???

I feel very dismissed by them. It’s like they treat women’s safety, lives, legal rights as some side line marginal issue they don’t need to bother with! This is 51% of the god damn vote! Plus dhs that feel worried for their wives and dds.

Its like we are invisible and don’t exist.

When I look at the party as a whole it is largely misogynistic anyway, why haven’t they even had a female leader - ever?

Reverse protecting single sex spaces. Identification and GR I could go on!

I know what labours position is when it comes to women and we apparently have penises. So I will leave you to consider the implications of that.

Summerdays24 · 05/06/2024 16:50

PP can dismiss this as much as they like it doesn’t change the impact this party position is going to have on much of the electorate.

Starmer has stated some women have penises.

The party have stated they will simplify the process to obtain a ‘gender recognition certificate’ (nonsense as it is)- by getting it through a GP.

Any use of the term ‘women’ includes ‘men’.

All of this is fact. Sorry if that disappoints you.

But face facts - if you vote labour, you’re voting for predatory men in children and women’s safe spaces. And men in women’s spaces in general.

Get a grip, understand and when you do, you can make an informed decision.

Labour have a women problem. Clear as day.

Summerdays24 · 05/06/2024 15:49

Some of them definitely will!

How would it be hundreds @Summerdays24 ? Can you show your calculations? At what point in time would we get to the situation where people on State Pension only would pay hundreds in income tax?

Summerdays24 · 05/06/2024 17:00

Anyone that backs Labour can kiss goodbye to single sex hospital wards, prisons, smear tests and other intimate exams conducted by biological women, school loos/public loos and changing rooms for women. Competitive or indeed any women’s sports, rape centres run for women by women, real female MPs that understand what it’s really like to be a woman, representation, equal pay for women as it will be skewed by men. Even the chance of bio woman as Labour leader.

I am utterly sick of having my legal rights and identity erased and won’t be voting for round 2!!! Perhaps it will even worse than last time, and we will be silenced again. Deleted if we question why we can’t have men and rapists in our spaces.

Notonthestairs · 05/06/2024 17:01

Not sure you'll get an answer to that IClaudine.

Summerdays24 · 05/06/2024 17:02

And all we get on here from certain posters is that it doesn’t matter!!

Yes it absolutely matters!!!! To all of us, every single one of us.

Notonthestairs · 05/06/2024 17:03

"to single sex hospital wards, "

5000 breaches of that in February

Summerdays24 · 05/06/2024 17:03

I still remember the dark days when we were deleted on MN for using the word man in conjunction with trans posts.

Anyone who votes for Sunak and his crowd can kiss goodbye to getting a hospital appointment at all. Unless they can afford private.

Totally agree. I do not understand how any woman, can vote for labour. Given that labour ‘think’ (yeah right, another lie Keir) that some women have penises - and the vast implications of this.

Notonthestairs · 05/06/2024 17:04

I suspect the main issue for some is private schools and VAT.
