General election 2024

Argh! Nobody to vote for!

I just don't know who I can vote for this time.

The Greens seem to have forgotten about climate change, the Lib Dems are obsessed with the trans issue, and the SNP don't know what a woman is.

The Labour Party still refuse to be clear about women's rights, and the Tories are just abhorrent, even though they can define what a woman is.

I've voted Labour and SNP in the past, but I can't this time.

And I'd rather stick pins in my eyes than vote Tory. Or Reform.

Anyone got any good ideas?

Also, I'm a WASPI woman, and none of the parties have been clear about compensation for us.

The Conservatives could actually be renamed Labour II as they are the most left leaning Conservatives we have ever seen. I don't know what they have been thinking.

I'm hoping the predictions are correct and the conservatives are obliterated this time. At least then they can go away, start again and come back stronger with better leaders and their original values.

I'm not however, looking forward to Labour burning everything to the ground. You think things are bad now? It's about to get a whole lot worse.

Like you though, no idea who to vote for.

WestEndWindy · 24/05/2024 14:45

Independent candidate?

TheShellBeach · 24/05/2024 14:46

Independent candidate?

Well only if such a candidate actually stands here.
I'm in Argyll and Bute.

Has anyone actually published a manifesto yet?

wickerlady · 24/05/2024 14:47

Interesting to see a lot of Europe going to the hard right though. Maybe we will go the same way once Starmer has done his worst.

I certainly agree with the first sentence in this.

Not so sure about the second. What were the Tories' original values?

I have 2 young DDs, so the trans issues at school are a big deal to me. I dread how Labour will handle it. I imagine LGBQTIA lessons from the age of 2. They are all awful though, I agree.

Lol let's see some evidence to back this up please, there is a pretty scary right wing faction in the Tories right now. Given the Brexit debacle, Liz Truss and bloody Rwanda policy I hardly think we can declare the Tories as left wing.

I've yet to see one.

I could have written this post. What a fucking nightmare we are in

You say that as though it's a good thing.

Who is right wing? I’d love to know

Agree with this.
We have some ultra right wing people in the Tory party at the moment.

The Workers Party of Britain are planning to stand in almost all constituencies, have publicly supported full restitution for WASPI women and also support womens rights against the attacks by trans activists.

Johnson, Braverman, Truss, Rees-Mogg, Kwarteng, just for starters.

I've never heard of them.
But if they fielded a candidate here they would get my vote.

George "homosexuality shouldn't be taught as being normal" Galloway's party.

KnittedCardi · 24/05/2024 14:57

This Conservative government has poured support money into the economy from COVID through to COL. Billions into Furlough, decreased rates for businesses, increases in benefit payments, £400 to every household, extra tranche payments of hundreds of pounds to UC and other claimants. These were all very Liberal Left policies. It's one of the reasons we are in such a mess.

So, yes, in some ways, a very socially conscious left wing government!

ditalini · 24/05/2024 14:58

I'm going to vote based on the views of the individual candidates this time. If I don't feel that any represent my views then I'll spoil my ballot.

I have two specific local areas of concern which will probably be the major influence on my vote. I expect all the candidates to disappoint me re: recognising the reality of biological sex (as opposed to "hormone sex", "brain sex", "feelings sex" , "legal sex" and the various other shite.)

The standing MP is, I think, a basically decent woman, but she has kept her head down and toed the line, and now it's to the detriment of her constituents so I'll be interested in what she has to say at hustings.

It's an SNP or Labour seat. Could probably swing either way due to general dissatisfaction with the sitting party.

TheShellBeach · 24/05/2024 14:58

I'm really hoping the Tories get trounced, though.

Even if I don't like any of their opponents.

OP posts:
Jessie21 · 24/05/2024 14:58

Vote to get the tories out. That's the most important thing.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 24/05/2024 15:03

I hear you, Shell.

I have an excellent Labour MP who has helped me many times over the years. I will be voting for 'him'

I also want the Tories out so badly that I feel Labour is the only option to ensure that. I simply can't see myself voting for others; mainly for the reasons you state. Many years ago I was a Lib Dem voter, but no more.

I do hope that if / when Labour are in power, they get their bloody act together on Women's rights. I shall be lobbying them to do so.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 24/05/2024 15:04

No idea OP, but I'm in the same boat.
