General election 2024

Argh! Nobody to vote for!

I just don't know who I can vote for this time.

The Greens seem to have forgotten about climate change, the Lib Dems are obsessed with the trans issue, and the SNP don't know what a woman is.

The Labour Party still refuse to be clear about women's rights, and the Tories are just abhorrent, even though they can define what a woman is.

I've voted Labour and SNP in the past, but I can't this time.

And I'd rather stick pins in my eyes than vote Tory. Or Reform.

Anyone got any good ideas?

@RainbowZebraWarrior
Because I'm in Argyll, there is no point in voting for the Labour Party.

It's always a straight race between the SNP and the Tories.

I hear you, though. If I was still in London I'd vote Labour.

This Conservative government has poured support money into the economy from COVID through to COL. Billions into Furlough, decreased rates for businesses, increases in benefit payments, £400 to every household, extra tranche payments of hundreds of pounds to UC and other claimants. These were all very Liberal Left policies. It's one of the reasons we are in such a mess.

So, yes, in some ways, a very socially conscious left wing government!

All this was only because of the pandemic though.

The SNP are in their own mess.

Vote labour. Do not get complacent.

TooBigForMyBoots · 24/05/2024 15:14

Wait for the candidates and manifestos and vote for the one that aligns most with your views.

Or vote tactically to GTTO.

I agree, anything to GTTO.

I really don't think anyone can make assumptions this time around especially. A lot of historically safe blue seats are expected to turn this time around (my area included). But that won't happen if people assume it and don't make it happen. SNP have had a shocker of a year(s...).

If there's ever been an election to follow your heart and not need to vote tactically, it's this one. No party will be a perfect fit, if you want to vote solely on the trans issue that is your right of course, but it's not the hill I'm willing to die on, yet. My priority right now is getting the Tories out.

TheShellBeach · 24/05/2024 15:40

I can't disagree with this. That means voting SNP again.

But do you agree? You've explicitly said you won't vote Labour. A Labour vote is, in almost all constituencies, the most logical way to get the Tories out.

You should, of course, vote for whoever you want, but its disingenuous to complain that there's nobody to vote for when there is a very clear option for you, since you have gone on to claim to agree that you want the Tories out.

aplthtoa · 24/05/2024 15:43

That's what I mean though, you can't be certain of that this time around, it wasn't that long ago Scotland was Labour's heartland, the Tories and SNP have done a number on the country in recent years, it could be worth a punt at Labour (if you like the MP and manifesto of course) because it could be different this year, I think it'll be hard to compare to previous ones given the turmoil of the last few years.

The Workers Party of Britain are planning to stand in almost all constituencies, have publicly supported full restitution for WASPI women and also support womens rights against the attacks by trans activists.

You do know that Galloway wants to make it more difficult for women to access abortion?

Well you're right!
But I hate all the parties!

Interesting to see a lot of Europe going to the hard right though. Maybe we will go the same way once Starmer has done his worst.

Let's hope so.

Labour getting in will be an absolute disaster.

I don't want the Conservatives back either but they are the slightly less evil of the two parties.

Oh I don't think so.
The Tories have wrecked the country.

Exactly the same OP. I could have written that word for word…

the polls say Labour will win by a landslide but what about all of us who don’t know yet. There’s a LOT of us!!

Mechanicalengineer · 24/05/2024 17:16

I will likely vote Labour just to get Tory out. But that’s not who I agree with (currently) ☹️

OnlyTheBravest · 24/05/2024 18:14

What about the SDP? Do you have any candidates standing in your constituency?

Failing that how about a local independent candidate?

DistinguishedSocialCommentator · 24/05/2024 20:18

I would never vote Labour - I recall their stance on tax re those that have worked hard, got decent savings and possibly a BTL for their psions etc so they don't burden the state

I recall labours zero stance on a nuclear deterrent

I recall Labours stance on channel crossings

I recall Liz Truss' shafting of England
I recall the lie after lie that came our of Rishi Sunaks mouth re the "Rawanda plan" the false promises that nothing will stop it and him coming out with breaking news outside number 10

I recall the tories promise to "reward those that were prudent with their money and worked hard" - just more taxes one way or another

The liberals - I will never forget the mother of all lies "student loanas."

UKIP - I'd rather leave the country

The Green party - the only party they know is one for themselves

There is no one I can vote for other than a decent independent

RancidOldHag · 24/05/2024 20:25

I cannot support any of the parties at present, so will be looking to see if any independents look any good. If not, I might even vote for a novelty candidate.

I'm even considering not voting at all (something that was previously unthinkable for me)

NoWordForFluffy · 24/05/2024 20:31

We appear to have a decent-looking indie candidate (ex-Labour) for a change (it's normally only the main 4 parties here). As long as he's on board with women's rights, I shall vote for him.

SofaThrow · 24/05/2024 20:32

Hugosmaid · 24/05/2024 14:49

I could have written this post. What a fucking nightmare we are in

Agreed.

I am hoping for a good independent too - if not, I shall spoil my ballot (again).

NoWordForFluffy · 24/05/2024 20:33

I think this GE will show a massive jump in votes for indie candidates. It's been happening in the locals, so it could well happen in the GE too.

The Good news is that noone expects you to have decided already that's literally the point of the campaign.
