Do you know people who will emigrate if labour win?

1000 replies

groyard · 24/05/2024 12:24

This is making me all very stressed. Trying not to freak myself out over future socio-economic ramifications for the UK if there is a wider trend of “brain drain”.

Brother and BIL have both said that if Labour win they will be emigrating with their wives and children.

I’ve heard similar sentiment from others but assume (hope) this is hyperbole.

Just to say, none of the people mentioned are wealthy but just about comfortable. Both highly skilled and in demand internationally.

Declare your immaculately informed sources @Polishedshoesalways because you should be taking that to the Times and the Telegraph not wasting it on us

Not a chance. I will be sacked as it’s company political analysts, but you shouldn’t have to wait too much longer.

The only problem with that is labour intend to reverse Brexit - so that ain’t gonna happen!

Do you live in the same world as the rest of us in the UK @Polishedshoesalways?

Do we get to know before the election or not? Curious to see what your terminology actually means since the want of precision suggests that its more speculative than true

I think there is also a fear that Labour are going to gerrymander/manitpulate the voting system, potential adding millions of extra voters that are synpathetic to them to ensure that they stay in power.

I am fairly confident that if Labour get in this time they will be in for a generation.

Are you referring to giving the vote to 16 and 17 yr olds

EasternStandard · 30/05/2024 20:25

If Labour gerrymander voting against the general tide in other countries they might get what they’re after, long term power, but it will throw up some big issues for them

Issues other countries will start to sort out

MotherofPearl · 30/05/2024 20:26

Labour are set to push for a back door EU re entry.

God I hope so.

Quornflakegirl · 30/05/2024 20:28

It would be great if this happens. Too many people for this small island, I’ll help them pack.

Notonthestairs · 30/05/2024 20:30

Certainly the case that gerrymandering didn't work out as the Conservatives hoped.

"The government's new voter ID rules were an attempt to "gerrymander" the electoral system which "came back to bite them", a former minister has suggested.
Jacob Rees-Moggg* made the comments having supported the proposals when he was in government under Liz Truss and Boris Johnson."

Other countries require voter id.
It makes perfect sense

Notonthestairs · 30/05/2024 20:42

The Conservatives by their own admission gerrymandered - and it didn't work out as they'd hoped.
See also not allowing military id cards because it would beg yet more questions about other id cards.

Yes the entire point of FPTP is that the boundaries have been manipulated to favour the conservative party.

I WISH Labour intended to reverse Brexit! Unfortunately, not.

A Tory vote is an anti-woman vote.
A Tory vote is an anti-Uk vote.
A Tory vote is even an anti-Conservative vote atm.😒

A Tory vote is a vote for MORE chaos and failure. Because that's all they've done in their 14 years in government and Sunak's out on his arse come July 5th.🤷‍♀️

Is that tongue in cheek, Labour have yet to identify whet a woman is and still think we have penises. I’m not convinced at all and believe they will row back on all of our progress on day one when it comes to women’s spaces. We are in real trouble if Labour win. Most Labour supporters recognise this issue.

Meadowfinch · 31/05/2024 09:22

One of the great things about this election, which we can all agree on, is that we are having a 20% change as MPs stand down.

Spread across all parties, we are guaranteed at least a 20% inflow of new talent, new thinking and new ideas. Add to that, the number of MPs who will be ousted against their will and we could be looking at a 40% change.

Regardless of your loyalties, that has to be good for us all.

As long as there’s some with relevant experience left.
Im sure we all appreciate any business without experience suffers.

Always astounds me that there’s no relevant experience required to do jobs like secretary of health, minister for education, etc. Compare to somewhere like Canada where people actually bring some expertise with them

Or the USA where a tv personality with questionable law suits hanging over him, can become President with zero political experience whatsoever.

Exactly. I’ll never vote for Labour when they don’t recognise that women exist.

There are zero safe guards for women and children, if Labour get in.

How can there possibly be, when labours’ definition of women, includes men.

Polishedshoesalways · 31/05/2024 16:33

Whilst it is all well and good pp saying any change is a good thing how can that possibly be true if we have to go back to square one with the trans activists, and they again are allowed to silence us and steal our single spaces and jeopardise our safety, because Starmer is too weak to stand up for us?

If Labour as their track record will confirm crashes the economy again?

That we are imperilled by a lack of national security because Starmer is too weak and indecisive to make a decision about anything?

I can’t be the only one thae is shuddering at the prospect of a Labour government with this bunch of incompetents currently sitting in opposition.

I have listened to interview after interview and been aghast at just how bad they really are, with one exception (Wes streeting) the rest are simply not fit for purpose. Rayner at global events on the world stage gobbing off. I am genuinely just mortified at the prospect of it all. Not because I’m anti Labour. I have voted for them in the past, but because the talent pool is totally not up to the job no matter how much pp might tell us otherwise. Labour is going to be the last straw if they get in for this country.

Protecting women doesn’t just mean biological women. Labour throws trans women into the same mix.
Oh
Thats ok then 🤯😳

Well said.👏👏👏👏

TV at the moment complaints from Doctors in the audience who say they don’t have any hours or the energy to work at the weekends in accordance with Labours completely mad idea that they all work extra hours to cut the waiting lists.

Doctors asking Labour where these doctors are going to come from.
No answer from Labour.
No surprises there then

AmpleFatball · 31/05/2024 18:05

Mad that some people who would be “mortified” at the prospect of Rayner being in government were almost certainly Boris Johnson voters 😂

AmpleFatball · 31/05/2024 18:07

Forgot about Truss for a moment too. She literally dressed up as Thatcher in the leadership debates ffs. A grown woman 😂

Even if Labour didn’t make a single policy change, at least the UK might claw back a scrap of dignity.
