How confident do you feel that the Tories will lose?

1000 replies

pinklite · 23/05/2024 23:04

Do you feel confident? Going off what I see on social media, there is no way that they don't lose by a massive majority.

However I worry that this is just a small snapshot of the public and is not an accurate representation.

It really wouldn't surprise me if we don't have a Labour majority.

What does everybody else think the result will be?

I felt sure Labour would win in 2019 and look how that turned out...

Well the polls indicated the Tories would win back then and so they did.

There may be some shy Tories but not that many. It’s not at all close like it was when we had that poll defying shock (1992?)

The only way Labour won’t win is if Keir Starmer gets drunk and accidentally shags a pig on live tv.

FFSNorman · 23/05/2024 23:14

No.i didn’t. Women’s’ rights are far far wider reaching than bloody trans.

What a shame Labour are pretending not to know what one is then.

RitaFromThePitCanteen · 23/05/2024 23:14

No very. So many people lie about voting conservative, because they're ashamed Although funnily enough, not ashamed enough to not vote for them.

Callmemel · 23/05/2024 23:15

Very, thank God. They've virtually destroyed this country. Labour will be turning the tanker around for a good while. The Tories have fucked over almost everything they've touched.

What a shame the tories have shafted working class women and girls for years and then proceeded to gaslight us.

There are more important issues that impact women's day to day lives than this.

The Tories are no friend to women.

AmpleFatball · 23/05/2024 23:17

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 23/05/2024 23:14

That would be the worst outcome as far as I'm concerned.

They'd achieve absolutely fuck all except making it easier for men to become legally women.

A Labour majority would be better because the Lib Dems are fucking nut jobs.

The only thing the Conservatives have done in their last 14 years, in terms of legislative changes to the Gender Recognition Act or Equalities Act, was when they made it easier and cheaper to apply for Gender Recognition Certificates…

SabreIsMyFave · 23/05/2024 23:18

Yep as a few others have said, very confident. 90% sure they will lose.

I FUCKING HOPE SO!!!

What a shame that people are pretending that the Tories somehow give a shit about women. They have demonstrated time and time again that they don't a toss about women. Let's not be disingenuous.

noblegiraffe · 23/05/2024 23:19

Those shy Tories weren't anywhere to be seen in the recent council elections, nor many of the recent bye elections.

Polling data hasn't budged for ages either.

Tories always go with 'oh but you can't trust Labour with the economy'. And they're trying that now, but unfortunately for them we all know that after 14 years of the Tories, the economy is in the toilet, public sector services are broken and we all remember Liz Truss.

So 'you can't trust Labour with the economy' coming from a Tory is just seen as a joke now.

pinklite · 23/05/2024 23:19

A lot can happen in 6 weeks though

And even then people might go 'actually I like him more now that he's got a bit of a personality'.

Absolutely. The Tory party have virtually bankrupted the country. They are slithering out of power with not one single light left on. Grabbing, corrupt, vicious, incompetent fuckers.

Hobsonchoice · 23/05/2024 23:22

Put it this way. It's not worth placing a bet on Labour winning as it's pretty much a dead cert. Aside from lots of people actively wanting Labour, from what I understand, a lot of disillusioned Tories are planning to either vote for Reform, not vote this time, or spoil their ballots, so that's good news for Labour.

(I wonder if anyone, literally the day the Tory 80 seat majority win in 2019 was announced, placed a bet on a large Labour win? They may be happy when this GE results come in).

(I'm not yet convinced things will get better under Labour but let's just hope so).

Personally I don't think any massive landslide win, whichever party, is good. Democracy needs a healthy opposition but that's just my opinion.

pinklite · 23/05/2024 23:19

A lot can happen in 6 weeks though

Day 0 - Rishi the drowned rat with 'Things can only get better' blaring in the background
Day 1 - Rishi asks a bunch of Welsh people if they're looking forward to a football tournament that they didn't qualify for and plants Tory councillors in the audience to ask him friendly questions "Mr Prime Minister, how do you get your hair to be so shiny?" Etc.

I'm not sure he'll stand 6 weeks of this. Perhaps it is Rishi who will shag the pig on TV.

Nat6999 · 23/05/2024 23:23

It would take a massive miracle for the Tories to win. The one thing they hoped to win the election on has failed, no flights to Rwanda will happen before the election & if Labour win, the whole thing will be cancelled. They have wasted £400 million on this. Add the money wasted on the PPE scandal & all the other things they have wasted money on & you have billions that could have been spent on education or NHS & social care. The bankers bonuses, the bonuses paid to the water companies who are pouring sewage into our rivers & on our beaches, as we have seen in the last week they can't even keep water fit & safe to drink. We have a Prime Minister who is out of touch with the real world, we had another who crashed the economy, another who was just not fit to be in office, lied & cheated the system.

user1471453601 · 23/05/2024 23:23

Apathy is the enemy, not Sunak (who appears not to have even the sense to come in from the rain. Cheap joke, but I couldn't resist).

the Blair advice about acting as though you were carrying a Ming case across a polished floor still feels true to me.

I've said for a couple of years that I'm determined to vote in this election, I'm old and frail. And I really hope Labour does it this time so I can let go..

but Labour must not take anything for granted. I recall (cringe) at Kinnocks speech in, I think, Sheffield, just before another Labour defeat.

noblegiraffe · 23/05/2024 23:24

oh also on Day 1: Rishi ducks out of paying up on a lost bet. Nobody likes people who do this.

DeeCeeCherry · 23/05/2024 23:26

Self-ID came in under the Tories but that wont stop those lying about being all for womens rights, from voting for them. So I'm not sure how the vote will go but either way, I dont believe Tories will be trounced

obsessedwithfreshbread · 23/05/2024 23:26

This is the way of politics.. Tories got in again because people were sick of how awful Labour were, labour will now get in because of how awful Tories are... and this is our political landscape...

One will favour the wealthy, one will favour the poor, the middle will pay either way

Meadowfinch · 23/05/2024 23:27

75%.

In the local elections, the tories dropped 400 seats but Labour didn't pick up anywhere like that number.

People switched to the greens, independents, Lib Dem's, which makes me think a lot were protest votes that might switch back for a general election

noblegiraffe · 23/05/2024 23:28

Tactical voting websites will also help the 'anyone but the Tories' vote be more efficient.

Flanjango · 23/05/2024 23:29

I think they are toast. If we are lucky they won't even be the second party in parliament. I'm no labour fan as they are but the tories are absolutely corrupt and we deserve better.

Hobsonchoice · 23/05/2024 23:30

Rishi's probably already booked his flight to California
