General election 2024

If you believe men and women can't change sex, who are you going to vote for?

Has Keir come to his senses or is he still insisting that some men have cervixes?

What's your view on who a GC woman should vote for?

WestminsterCrimes · 22/05/2024 21:07

Labour. The tories are lying self serving bastards. I am 100% GC but hell would freeze over before I voted for the conservatives. So excited they will be gone soon!

Wolfpa · 22/05/2024 21:08

Where has he said that you can change sex? All I can find is about changing gender. They are two separate things.

I will most likely be voting Lib Dem as I live in a conservative strong hold and I think this will give a better chance of getting them out

girljulian · 22/05/2024 21:10

Labour. Everything has been getting worse over the past 13 years, with the “ideology” top of the list, hasn’t it? It’s not as if Tories have done anything about it, and they’ve made everything else a hell of a lot worse.

therealcookiemonster · 22/05/2024 21:14

it's not something I need to believe. it's a fact. our chromosomes determine our biological sex and gender is made up nonsense (mostly by perverted men)

but that is not a reason to change my vote. I will be voting Labour as always

Emptyjars · 22/05/2024 21:14

Tories have decimated every public service, plunged this country into the COL crisis seemingly without a care in the world whilst hoarding riches for themselves and are morally, ethically and literally corrupt.

Labour will restore some balance to this but may do so whilst pursuing their bonkers neoliberalism on "trans rights" and destroying girls and women's rights.

Conundrum but I agree with PP that not voting for Labour over one issue seems a luxury.

Lib Dems?

gleefulstar · 22/05/2024 21:29

I don't know who to vote for. I've always voted conservatives and certainly won't vote labour.

But if the conservatives lose, which I sincerely believe they will, I want it to be a humiliating landslide so that they really shake up the party and realise everyone is fed up with them.

So if I don't vote Tory or labour, who else is there? Can't see much point in voting Lib Dem where I live. Wasted vote.

NewName24 · 22/05/2024 21:41

What is so frustrating about this is that so many people's votes just have no impact due to first past the post system.
For General Elections, EVERYONE should be able to vote for which Party they want to run the country for the next few years, and Parliament should be made up of the number of MPs that are voted for, proportionally.

FinallyHere · 22/05/2024 21:44

Conservatives are the only party that are making the right noises re women and children's rights.

And yet, and yet, the currently contentious legislation including self-ID has all been introduced under the tories

QueenofTheBorg · 22/05/2024 21:51

Sorry for the wording and title of the thread, I typed in haste as I had a meeting to go to! Agree with the criticisms of both my thread title and question 🙂

I don’t believe men and women can change sex. Sex is immutable and real.

I care deeply about this issue and it will affect how I vote. I’ve never voted Conservative in my life but if Labour won’t even say what a woman is, that concerns me.

crowgift · 22/05/2024 21:53

OP but do you grasp that this mess has happened under the Conservatives?

MrsGhastlyCrumb · 22/05/2024 21:57

Alba- we have Ash Regan here. I'd be stuck otherwise.

Aussieland · 22/05/2024 22:00

I don’t understand how idiotic you have to be to think this is the most important thing. Even if you feel what gender people are has anything to do with you, I don’t understand how you think it’s MORE important than having schools that aren’t falling down, a healthcare system that functions and enough money to feed your children. It’s so obsessive and weird.
Like the people who voted for trump purely because they didn’t like the fact Hillary “stood by her man” when trump was raping people and having affairs left right and centre.
I think people should be ashamed of themselves who are considering voting Tory and sacrificing their fellow humans and OWN CHILDREN on one invented tiny issue

I don't know whether Alba will be able to field a candidate in my part of the country. I'm waiting to see.

I think that the SNP are going to lose umpteen seats this time round. I suspect that it'll be a Labour landslide for Scotland, in spite of their involvement in the GR nonsense here.

mitogoshi · 22/05/2024 22:08

There are other more important issues

QueenBitch666 · 22/05/2024 22:11

Wasted vote here for the first time in my 62 years
Starmer and his misogyny can fuck off

From Sex Matters;

''Sex Matters calls for clarity in law and a return to policies based on the objective reality of sex, not the subjective feeling of “gender identity”. Parties must be absolutely clear when it comes to sex-based rights.
Every party must STAND UP FOR SINGLE-SEX SERVICES, and be clear what sex means, so that when they say “women”, voters can be sure they are referring to actual women, not to men who identify as women.''

GE2024: Stand up for single-sex services - Sex Matters

A summer election has been called. Sex Matters calls for clarity in law and a return to policies based on the objective reality of sex, not the subjective feeling of “gender identity”. Parties must be absolutely clear when it comes to sex-based rights....

I'm in a safe Labour seat so it doesn't matter who I vote for. The Tories picked up on this issue and it's been good to see them trying (finally!) to address the damage done but in every other way they're so useless and toxic and corrupt I could never ever vote for them.

Labour will get a landslide and I only hope that Starmer will feel confident enough with such a massive vote to tell the transactivists where to get off.

Classic TRA whataboutery and attempt to shame women for caring about our Rights/Protections and the safeguarding of vulnerable kids. It never works.

TopBun · 22/05/2024 22:24

This just isn't high up enough on my list to influence my vote. We have a crumbling NHS, education system, justice system, economy, infrastructure, water supply...

I'll be tactically voting Lib Dem, and hoping that Labour win.

Underthinker · 22/05/2024 22:27

crowgift · 22/05/2024 21:53

This isn't really accurate.

Certain ideas around gender have taken hold in most of the western world over the last decade. Politicians of all leanings have adopted these ideas, although for various reasons, they seem more frequently held by leftwing politicians.

The current Tory govt, for all their faults, have resisted gender ideology more than most political parties, and Labour, despite the many good things about them, have not.

Which "contentious legislation" is this, precisely?

longdistanceclaraclara · 22/05/2024 22:34

No idea. I'm apathetic at best. There is no credible option.

TheFairyCaravan · 22/05/2024 22:38

I’ll be voting Labour.

I’m a disabled woman, the Tories don’t give a monkeys arse about me. They dont even have a Secretary of State for Disabled people. They want to take away my PIP payments and give me a catalogue to chose aids from which my doctor would have to approve. They have already killed thousands of disabled people with their savage cuts to disability benefits.

The tories don’t care about the rights of the women and children who they’ve plunged in to poverty. We’ve more foodbanks than branches of McDonalds fgs

They don’t care about the women who’ve been victims of birth trauma because they’ve failed to invest in NHS maternity services. Neither do they care about the women on mental health waiting lists or the children on CAHMS lists.

All the problems with self id have happened under the Tories. Nothing would be happening now if it wasn’t because a General Election is looming. There’s so many bigger issues than this. The country is flat on its face and can’t take another 5yrs of this lot.

Wiunthoopered · 22/05/2024 22:38

Women fought so hard for our right to vote. I always vote but I’m buggered to know which party to vote for, as a GC woman. For me this issue is massive and personal.
