Just a little fourward planning . We are all looking forward to another thread of fabulous pictures. It can be a quiet time but I am sure some of us will have autumnal colours to share . The trees are starting to turn here . I have just picked an allium from my photo collection to start the thread off .
You are very welcome to finish or visit the old thread . I do not know how to do ... this is the old thread here thing .

A toad… that’s amazing! Cute little guy.

That is the view from a hotel (called ‘The Lake Hotel) in Killarney, South West Ireland.
Heaven on earth 🙏

I will post more roses soon.

AnneKipanki · 22/06/2021 21:42

Wonderful @beautyisfoundwithin and @AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet.
How big is your toad beauty?
We used to have one but do occasionally see little ones .

Me too - was feeling super envious there @AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet ! My view is just houses - not a deer in sight (but the occasional fox or cat, which get quickly get shushed away).

Gorgeous photo - I used to spend a lot of time in the Scottish highlands and it reminds me of that ❤️

My banana plant has gone crazy with the rain, will take a picture this weekend. And the dahlias.

Furries · 23/06/2021 01:19

@AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet - lovely photos, you e obviously got a good eye with a camera and focus etc - I just point and snap.

I took these shots of my roses as I got home from appointments today. I know the saying is “the camera never lies”, but these don’t really capture how battered all of my shrubs look. I haven’t had the energy or inclination to go out in the crap weather to deadhead more and try to sort them out.

Am hoping it will be at least dry tomorrow (actually, today). First full year of doing roses, so feeling a bit helpless! Am guessing that the best thing is to cut most of the blooms off to ease the sodden weight? Or should I cut some of the stems right back?

On the bright side, the air still smells lovely with their scent.

@AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet - sorry, all those questions weren’t directed just at you, was a general musing!

AnneKipanki · 23/06/2021 07:21

I can see that @Furries.
Can you give them a gentle shake?
I am sure some people go out with long feather duster things to remove water from their plants.
I will have a google.

AnneKipanki · 23/06/2021 07:54

I can’t find anything. I did see a chap go round his plants with a big feather duster. He used to enter competitions.
They were busy lizzies not roses .
I would give them a little shake. They do look drenched.

Furries You should probably start another thread and ask about what you should do. There are several knowledgeable posters on the board who are great at prompt advice.
I would guess that you should cut the blooms off, but that is only a guess… don’t do it until you’ve had proper advice Shock
Sometimes, after a day of sunshine, my flowers stand up again. Roses are pretty indestructible… they will bounce back quickly.

Can’t wait to see your banana plant @WobblyLondoner

AnneKipanki · 23/06/2021 08:08

Contact David Austin.
I am sure they would know.

Thank you! I will shake and deadhead today, fingers crossed! If that doesn’t work, I’ll start a new thread.

beautyisfoundwithin · 23/06/2021 13:19

Thanks @AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet & @AnneKipanki, I think she's really cute too. She's about the size of a tennis ball I suppose. And she seems to like our company... it's the strangest thing but when DH & I sit by the pond she'll often hop out and sit by our feet! I'm aware of how bonkers that sounds and if someone else told me that I don't know if I'd believe them but it's absolutely true!! 🤣

Good luck with your rose rescue operation @Furries!

setthecontrols · 23/06/2021 13:26

Clematis Taiga is lovely this year

That is lovely @setthecontrols.
Yes, that is a cute toad. Nothing would surprise me about animals.

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 23/06/2021 14:38

Oh, it’s a lady toad. She looks so graceful and elegant in the second picture. I do apologise for calling her a ‘little guy’ Grin

beautyisfoundwithin · 23/06/2021 19:52

Lovely @setthecontrols.

I thought the same about the second photo @AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet. Funny how sometimes she looks graceful and other times like a little blob 😆 No worries about calling her a 'little guy', I won't tell her! 🤫 😁

DS trimmed the laurel shrub in to more of a tree shape. These are the only roses in the garden, we plan on buying a couple more rose bushes. I found a hidden plant down the side of the shed. DH had bought a big yucca plant from his office at the start of lockdown and just left it there. I have repotted the miserable looking thing and hope it can rejuvenate.

Lovely @Auntienumber8. I love the colour of the rose. We had some very heavy rain yesterday. I have not been out to inspect. Here are some photos I took yesterday.
