Yes of course, very soon. 🤞 Smile
I didn't know just how much watering they would need, until I bought the book and read about how much water new roses need Shock
that would explain why so many various other things died over the years

Usually that's not a problem here, but I think it has only rained twice in the last month

I'm going to need rose advice from you, I can see! I have a silver anniversary and another one whose name I can't remember. I have never pruned them, and they definitely starting to need it. What's the general idea?

Noflora · 20/05/2020 14:54

Yesterday I planted 3 climbing roses. Bathsheba, Teasing Georgia and Strawberry Hill

Camelia, hellebore and a beautiful little plant whose name I can't remember. The foliage fascinates me, something almost prehistoric about it when it just starts, rather like the sedums. It has balloon like flowers. Papillon? Paper balloons? I'll remember later.

Forgot to name them! Generous Gardener and Claire Austin. My other bought-from-David Austin rose in the garden is Royal William which is stunning and exactly what I needed in a narrow spot.

Gorgeous roses @NoFlora !

@picklemewalnuts the David Austin website is good for advice on pruning and generally looking after roses. Here’s a link with advice on pruning shrub roses:

www.davidaustinroses.co.uk/advice-and-inspiration/pruning-an-english-shrub-rose/

The advice for climbing roses is a bit different but can also be found on their website.

Thanks Crazzzy!

Heavenly spot failedasaparent

Beebumble2 · 20/05/2020 17:57

Noflora my Claire Austin is about to flower, can’t wait. It’s planted next to City of York. A beautiful rambler.
I also planted generous gardener last year, but it seems slow to take off.

Noflora · 20/05/2020 18:14

City of York looks beautiful Bee but a bit tall for me. Though I am contemplating growing something through an apple. DH not convinced yet.
With me Generous Gardener is a lump further on with strong thick growth and lots of buds, Claire Austin a bit weedy by comparison but I expect that is all due to 2 months earlier planting of the pink one.

Yes, it's divine. Sitting there, glass of wine, listening to the bees buzzing and the birds singing (they nest in it), it's wonderful.

Oldraver · 21/05/2020 07:43

Sun isn't out yet so didn't think I would have any poppies out but yes, and a double and three purpled

Lovely @Oldraver . I planted out some pots and a trough yesterday. Unfortunately I will not have space or the plants to do as much as last year.

Today will mostly be sorting my new beehive waterbutt which I am stupidly excited over.

I have an appointment at the builders yard to get some sand and a slab. I'm dressing up an all

Gorgeous poppies Oldraver!

We actually had some rain overnight. I’d almost forgotten what that looks like! 😂

Here’s a not particularly good picture of some of my Astrantia. They’re such interesting looking plants

Of course! Open to all . I do not know all those plants but the pale pink hanging downwards flowers on the left of first picture are aquilegia, and to the right the pink ones look like weigela ( not sure if that is the correct spelling.
