These are my mum’s hydrangeas today. They are fantastic. Unfortunately they are blocking the garden path so I’m going to have to tie them back or something.
She loves gardening but is a bit too frail these days to do much. Her garden used to be fab.

beauty thanks, I wasn't going to grow any this year but was given a tangled mass that the local nursery were giving out free. I'm so pleased, I love them too.

Some amazing plants there Anne and Dita very nice flowers.

I love the way these sedums hold the rain drops, they catch your eye from quite a distance like firing diamonds. Wollerton Old Hall and Niobe clematis are doing so well given they were planted so recently. I think they'll look lovely when they merge

No flowers today but I've been industrious and planted some bamboo in a far corner

@Oldraver sounds like you have my buddleia wish list! I'm also hankering after one of the highly scented yellow ones!

This morning I offer a yellow loosestrife kissed by the early sun, a calendula looking stripey on the cusp of opening and the first Michaelmas daisies.

@BewareTheBeardedDragon I have a yellow globosa one, is that supposed to be scented ?

I only planted it last year so can't remember

AnneKipanki · 03/07/2020 12:16

It is scented @Oldraver.

What a bonus @Noflora! I'd be pleased if I was given some for free too! I think the colour combination of your Rose and your Clematis will be amazing when they merge.

I have some more Roses blooming today 🌹

To those with a Gertrude Jekyll - how big are the blooms and do these have any yellow in the centre at all?

Mamia15 · 03/07/2020 17:30

Image attached - does this look like a Gertrude Jekyll rose?

That looks a bit pale. Yes , they do have yellow in the centre.

Mamia15 · 03/07/2020 18:06

It is paler than expected - and would you say smaller too? You can see it's size compared with my thumb.

RaptorInaPorkPieHat · 03/07/2020 19:53

That's a nice corner - I love a good corner of pots. Sunflower looks promising Smile

Crazzzycat · 04/07/2020 01:52

Rose Strawberry Hill and Clematis Edouard Andre.

This was my first David Austen rose, bought at a time when DA sold them as a shrub rose that could be trained as a short climber. A few years later and it’s about 4 metres high. I wonder what those who bought it for growing as a shrub made of that 😬

Gorgeous pictures 🌸

That's amazing Crazzzycat Smile You love roses and clematis!
On Gardeners' World last night, Monty planted Thomas A Becket in a pot with fuchsia, it was soooo stunning...

No Mamia15 It doesn't look like GJ. It actually looks more like Harlow Carr, but I'm not saying it's that either. Are you sure it's a David Austin? I can check in my book for you 😊

AnneKipanki · 04/07/2020 09:11

It does look small too . I will go and measure later .

Omg, you're all making me want a repeat flowering rose! I've been browsing the DA site this morning and now considering a Wollerton Old Hall - does anyone have it?

AnneKipanki · 04/07/2020 10:50

Noflora has it @BewareTheBeardedDragon

Oldraver · 04/07/2020 11:07

I know everyone loves DA roses on here, but I recently bought one from Peter Beale it came very well packaged and a lovely plant

BestIsWest · 04/07/2020 11:15

I want a pale pink rambling or climbing rose, scented and preferably available now. Can anybody recommend one? Every one I’ve seen is not available until the bare root season but I want instant gratification.

Also some beast has trampled my wildflower patch this morning. Grr.

Noflora · 04/07/2020 11:33

Did someone say Wollerton Old Hall? Grin I was really worried I'd hate the colour as being wishy washy but it is magnolia as in the best magnolia blooms not cheap paint colour so the buds are tinged with apricot and pale as they open to clotted cream. So that I love. In its first few months here I can tell it will be big and it needs loads of water. It is happy even though it is in full shade until 1-2pm and then sun until sunset.

Best I have 3, Strawberry Hill, The Generous Gardener and Blush Noisette. If you have a large space, I would recommend TGG, in a smaller one BN.

www.classicroses.co.uk/blush-noisette-climbing-rose.html

David Austin does sell BN but it is not a David Austin rose in the sense that rose experts mean, as in his website sells it but he didn't breed it.
